Beautiful!
@@RestoreOldRadios Thank you!
This would be PERFECT for a WW2 living history reenactment
Actually, this would predate WWII. A 1930s set would be more appropriate.
What are you using to power your 1920s radios?
@@OldCanadianguy953 This particular set is connected to an ARBE power supply.
Nice
@@kenjiponcelopez1286 Thank you!
Great looking and sounding speaker. Very nice, Dave.

@@johnwynne-qx6br Thank youny friend! I am truly amazed at the sound quality fr9m such a simple devise.
Sounds wonderful, and a fantastic tune 👍 😊
@@johnwynne-qx6br Thanks!!
Very interesting, it's a neat design 👍
Glad you enjoyed!
Hello, beautiful piece! you had mentioned that you had restored the device. Can you please share some hints about how to make the anodized face clean and shiny again, without eroding the surface and lettering? Thanks!
@@EckartThies It hasbeen some years ago. :) I typically use go-jo non pummace hand cleaner for most everything! It removes years of dirt while the lanolin nourishes and polishes. Once cleaned, I might use an automotive product such as armor all or a home furniture polish! I often times experiment! But go-jo is my go to cleaner! It is quite amazing what it does to even wood cabinets!!
@@Davesradios Great, I will try that! Happy Holidays to you!
Thumbs 👍 yes much nicer tone on the large cone. But both speakers are lovely
@@johnwynne-qx6br I agree. Thanks!
Not bad at all! Does this set have a tickler-coil? Also, I was expecting to see an audio-coupler transformer somewhere but not one to be found? For what it's worth, in the 1920s, I think Atwater Kent ploughed on making these transformers with iron-wire cores (very labour-intensive) when other manufacturers were already using laminations. Keep up the good work!
@@jozefbubez6116 Thank you! Actually I believe it was cheaper/easier to use scatter wound cores! Mr Kent was rather fugal!
Apart from having 50% distortion, this thing looks absolutely wild and beautiful
@@Individuell83 Yes, this small variant does not sound as good as its big brother.
@@Davesradios Just listened to it's big brother earlier, there's indeed a big difference The big one sounding superior in your comparison video:)
Yes! I may experiment with different weight paper cone. It does make a difference.

Sounds good my friend.
@@Radio1920s Thank you my friend I have to admit--I was pleasantly surprised!
Good morning! This set is from 1927.
Hello Dave! How old is this speaker? What is the manufacturing year?
The set and speaker are a matched pair. Both are from around 1926.
Thumbs 👍
Thanks 👍
Nice! From 1926?
Correct!
Correct!
@@channel_98s After further research it was actually introduced in 1925 !
😊😊😮😮😍😍🥰🥰💚 hermoso y me encanta ,amo lo vintage, retro, hindi 😊, así como la música vieja

thanks this is very helpful
Glad to be of help!
Just got my hands on 46 model. Do you take orders to repair and refurbish radios?
At one time I did. Honestly shipping alone would be very expensive!
@@Davesradios this is very true figured it would about $100. I don’t know much about this radio. Does it need an external speaker?
@@jherrmann543 Yes, it requires a field coil type speaker. I beleive AK called it an F-4.
Great video! I have to replace the "o" rings (2) on the friction wheels. Wish you had a video on doing this. Just how does one take those wheels out to put new "O' rings on?
@@jimmiemack1947 Truthfully, it is quite easy. A couple of screws and they come right out. I did not make a video because of the simplicity--sorry! I will next time!
Nice work, my friend. But since its a ship speaker, I'd be more impressed if you could make it float! 😉
@@Radio1920s HaHa! I too would be impressed!! :)
@@Davesradios 😁
does transformer polarity matter?
@@theuserthatishere No--not really. The 6 volt supply for field coil is polarity sensative is labeled + and -. The audio input is not critical
@@Davesradios my polarity is not labeled for the 6v? looking from back, which terminal is which? both are labeled battery. will a 6v dc wall transformer work? also i saw a fella run his phone into the input with an adapter between called an amp-jack?
can i run a modern mono input from an amp? like a cheaper amazon pre/power amp between my signal and this speaker? thank you
I suppose one could--be carefull not to overdrive horn. These were designed for a fairly weak signal compared to today's audio devices.
Beautiful

Wow that's a winner 🏆 beautiful work of art. Is it glass looks like plate glass fantastic. And what a great idea for any radio's that have been too damaged to restore or were bought with no case. Very impressed 👍
@@johnwynne-qx6br This was originally a glass cabinet homebrew. Truthfully, I used acrylic that is made to replicate glass. I am very happy with results! It was in very poor shape when purchased!
@Davesradios I hadn't realised it was originally homebrewed that way i should read first before commenting. But again what a great idea. And you have restored it back to what the homebrewer had intended and it is perfection 👍
@@johnwynne-qx6br Thank you!
That is just cool...like something the Professor on Gilligan's Island would do...
@@scottthomas3792 HaHa! Actually this is a reproduction of an actual speaker from the 20s. It was a fun project!
Another good video Dave!!!!
@@martyhuff5866 Thank you my friend!
Is that brass tubing? Is it threaded to the Baldwin somehow? How long is it?
@@Pygar2 I have used brass, and plastic. It extends into the shell about 1 inch. It is cut flush with inside of bowl. Everything is epoxies together. :)
There is a definite 'air' to these old speakers which someone unkindly desribed as sounding like a bumble-bee trapped in a bottle! The great 'plus' was good electro-acoustic efficiency which was important in the old battery-driven sets which sometimes had little more that 100mW audio output.
@@jozefbubez6116 Yes these sets had very little output. :)
Great explanation! I am trying to emulate this type of speaker on a smaller scale the first effort using a 4" diameter foamed polystyrene bowl and still need to make the driver. At age 74, I can relate to the less steady hands but better to try our best rather that sit about and do nothing. Keep up the good work!
Fantastic! I wish you luck my friend! I can fully relate to the "less than steady" hands! :)
Nice radio Dave. I was wondering about using the "Dancing Ladies" speaker with the Grebe MU-1. Does the manufacturer of different pieces really matter to purists ?
@@tonyfulford3175 Thank you! During the 1920s, it was common to mix and match sets to speakers! So yes! You would be okay!
I was wondering if you could help me by any chance. I am trying to find a reproduction of an RCA VS-064 AB battery
@@Tranliestman94 Sorry, I do not know of any availability.
