I can help you with that. The building took 5yrs to build. It opened in 2010. Although, still under construction, and probably always will be. Like a sail-boat, it requires constant maintenance. I am putting the second tier cupola on in the spring.

No old growth trees were used in this construction. There is a 400yr old fir tree that you can see from 34s-40s that the studio was built around. All the poles in the construction are second-growth from the property as part of a forest-management from the clear-cut that was done in the 50's. The studio serves 8000 organic meals each summer to participants. That's a lot of feces at the top of the hill. As Masanobu Fukuoka said, "the most noblest act you can do is plant fruit trees at the top of a hill." The birds are doing well. The owl population is increasing. According to most biologists, if the top level predators are improving then you are doing something right.

C.C.Campbell My son has a summer place on Lasqueti and believe me the old growth forrest was long since gone in the olden days. There is no farming of larger scale being practiced on the island a little logging will do no harm animals require open area and what grows on it.
