the footage is being played at almost twice the speed it should be, very common for old film you see here on you tube. in the "old days" people were not going around like rabbits on coke, they were just as slow as we are now and the machines were slower, not faster.

My family is from up there and worked the mine until it closed in the 1950s. I also had family who worked for the railroad. They were avid 8mm shooters. In the 90s, my grandfather had a lot of the family 8mm converted to VHS. This was the one that seemed good for upload here. It is possible that this stuff was mixed in with something from another source but I'm pretty confident it is from the family archives. By the way, I loved Mark 1 Video back in the day. I heard there might be a lot more coal in that area than was ever mined, a guy by the name of Wayne told me that. There was a small stripping operation for the last several years at Alvan but the EBT didn't get any of that coal for some reason even though it's supposed to be high quality. Maybe somebody that lives up there would be able to determine if the coal being mined now is as high quality as before and inform the foundation? Be nice if there was a modern cleaning plant in Mt. Union!

@@AuthenticRailFilms absolutely I was there chasing that day myself all the way North. Waited with her @ Tamaqua and chased her through the dark back home to PN. After over a decade of no steam it was like living again for me. Yes you can go to Strasburg to see steam but that’s boring to me ever since John Bowman and the other old timers passed away or retired there’s nothing really to see. Nothing ever came close to the BM&R locally and nothing comes close to the RBM&N now. Andy’s trains run like they did in the old days and growing up with 2102 & 425 nothing even comes close to me compared to his operation. To me it’s the best anywhere……….

I worked there in the early 2000s and was a participant in the first couple Railfan Weekends. They were a lot of fun and allowed management to express their creativity. However, they were labor intensive and honestly not that well attended. The majority of the passengers on the train wanted the regular experience and were kind of put off by the disruption from the usual. I can't speak for why they were ultimately discontinued but it wasn't a surprise to me. Good times however and some great memories too.

It was a very interesting summer, and I am glad that I was able to capture it for you.
