Mighty Hike 2023 (Jurassic Coast)
In a team of four with our friends Chris and Kat we set off on the Mighty Hike for Macmillan Cancer support. It's a marathon length undertaking on the Jurassic Coast which sees us on one of the hottest weekends of the year on some steep but very scenic parts of Dorset. It was sweaty work!
It's all in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. If you have enjoyed this video and wish to make a donation for a good cause, you can do so on the link below:

Part 15: We Completed 630 miles -The South West Coast Path

Part 15: This is the last part of our adventure. We leave Portland and head for the Purbecks and battle over the magnificent hills of the Jurassic Coast to Durdle Door. We stay in a cosy shepherd's hut and take a detour around the Lulworth Ranges. The sun shines down on us for our last day covering the rock formations and quarries along the Dorset coastline to the final stretch of Studland Bay ...

    Just finished watching all the videos and loved every bit of them. Gives a great insite into everything the SWCP has to offer. Its definitely on my bucket list gor the near future. Just wondering if you were to do it all again sould you do it the same time of year and in the same direction. 🤔 Tamsin you were legend to keep going where im sure many would have thrown in the towel. Great job the pair of you. 🙂

      @@andrewclark7650 thank you good question. Personally I’d like to do it in the spring heading into summer as the days lengthen. It was tough when clocks changed. Not sure I would do it the other way as that Devon bit at the start is pretty tough. Also the ferry’s are more likely to be running in south Devon the closer you are to summer… and close to zero to camp in is not recommended! So spring to early summer would be my preferred choice 😀

    What advice would you give anyone planning on doing the same thing?.

    • @RobandTamsin
      @RobandTamsin Рік тому

      Start in the spring so the days are getting longer. Carry less, you can always buy bits along the way. You don’t really need to carry food, if you want to wild camp you need to camp between the recommended stops, if you follow the SWCP recommended stops you will end up in built up areas not really suitable for wild camping. Shelter from storms in historical inns. Don’t rush you want to remember the places separately. 63 days was quick!

    Really enjoying following your journey especially since i just did this section a few weeks ago and the Perranporth to Portreath 2 weeks ago. Half way along that beach to Perranporth the path actually comes off the beach and heads into the dunes, very easy to miss and after fighting up steep dunes with a full back pack id probably recommend just walking along the beach like you did. I've got Portreath to St.Ives and St.Ives to LandsEnd on monday and tuesday so i'll end the year at Lands End and start the south side next spring. Well done guys

      I have to be honest it wasn't cheap. Campsites were usually £20 a night the cheapest was £5 , However with the weather we did stay in a fair few inns, hotels and airbnbs. These varied in price I think around £70 per night. We also had to buy supplies and meals. Probably around £5000 but it must be possible to do it much cheaper.

      Thank you Katie for following our journey. We really appreciate it. September / October is a lovely time to experience the trail. The days do shorten quite quickly as you hit November though 😉 Definitely take it all in. Have a lovely time.
