Hey Cascadian Rambler, I have the same exact boat. I put an Oarframe on Mr. Pickle. However, I am working out the learning curve as I mostly R2 the boat. I would appreciate any pics or 411 you could provide on your setup. I'm hoping to R2 the SoFork Payette and run Big Falls late this year. Ran the run but portaged Big Falls last August. Great video along with music selection. Blessings river soul brother.

The boat I rowed for this trip was a 14 foot AIRE Wave Destroyer with a Madcatr frame built by Dave Nissen. The frame is pretty small measuring 64in X 68in which is large enough for one person and some communal gear. I run 9.5 foot oars. I hope this was helpful.

I ran the Selway with ARTA back in 2010 on a 6-day trip with a layover day at Moose Creek. Truly one of the most beautiful and awesome river experiences I have ever had, and I have had a LOT. This is among the best commercially run multi-day river trips in Idaho. Better than any of the commercially run Salmon River trips (including the Middle Fork). Better than Hells Canyon. I have not yet run the Jarbidge-Bruneau, so I cannot compare with that one. One other point: Everyone seems to say that Ladle is the toughest rapid on the Selway and that may be true, but I thought that Wolf Creek was the funnest!!

Our group won 4 tickets in 7 years..... blind luck. Regarding scouting, the first two days you can read and run, but Ham is worth a look. We would camp at Moose Creek and do a layover day there. You can hike down the trail and scout all of the "biggies" from Double Drop to Little Niagra. We used to do 7 days trips and have a second layover above Wolf Creek in order to scout it. Wonderful video.... brought back many many memories.

We're doing a 1 day raft trip in June and I'm a little nervous. Been down the lower canyon of the Salmon, Cabarton and the south fork of the Payette portaging around Big Falls. This river makes all of them look pretty tame in comparison.

I would not say the Selway is any tougher than the SF Payette. Actually I think that the Lochsa is tougher than either. But of course, unlike with the SF Payette or the Lochsa, on the upper Selway you are in the wilderness, which means it is a LOT tougher to get help in the event of a mishap.

We were fortunate to have great weather. The water was very cold, especially when rowing a cataraft with an open floor where lots of waves are hitting you in the chest. We did have a paddler in an IK who was wearing a wetsuit and he did just fine.
