Basketball Rewind | 2024 NBA Draft Profile - Zaccharie Risacher
Raps will not win more than 30. I am guessing 25 wins this season. Ochai is a bust. Masai could of picked him up on waivers as he would of ended up there, and they could of signed Kelly as a free agent. Just another dumb move wasting a 1st round pick. Another failed project for Masai, to add to his growing list of fails. Gradey has a great feel for the game, a high basketball IQ, and is a natural shooter +. I wish he was stronger, or faster, but he will become a very good player. He brings a lot of things the Raps rarely had, including how well he plays without the ball, like coach said, he is always moving. When was the last time the Raps had someone who could shoot, and move without the ball? Scottie will never become a leader unless he improves his motor. He has to show up every game, and every quarter, before we start crowning him as the king. He is a good player, but may end up always leaving fans wanting/expecting more, like was the case with OG. Kind of disappointing that Walter is injured. He was one of the few things the Raps fans had to look forward to seeing. I hope that he does not turn out to be an injury prone player.
Wow, Coach Baker sounds like there is a renaisssance with Basketball overseas. Is America taking Basketball for granted?
Scottie is not going to be a real leader this year. This year and next year he becomes a great player. After that he becomes a leader. He just doesn’t have the knowhow yet to lead. The same was true for MJ, LeBron and Steph- great players before they became leaders. Don’t be impatient.
We will see where this team is at come Jan 1st
Gradey Dick must be relieved to be recognized as a movement shooter and allowed to do so on the team. Refs didn't allow the players to decide the outcome, they choose Liberty to win based on that atrocious last call in the regular season. FT disparity another issue, foul calls disparity...Should have left the physicality play out the entire season down to the last seconds.. Farewell to WNBA season was a blast, hello and welcome to NBA season...
My bet is Chomche will get heavy minutes on the 905 with Brandon gone.
Ha ha, Lavine. Bulls would have to give us 2 FRP to take Lavine and we give them BB and Boucher!
I would take Khem Birch over Jonathan Isaacs, hands down!
37 wins
Ochai has to carry his success over to the regular season and build on his success. This is a turnaround from summer league. Shooting can come along as the regular season progresses.
Walter does not start. He has a long way to go, and Raptors can take their time with him.
By the way, I believe we win the Cavs game.
I wanna watch the first 10 games and see if the team can maintain good habits. I don't care about wins and losses. I just want to see good building blocks.
Hmmm, yummy yummy. Raptors treats!
Good show. I agree with Beyond on 2 points. 1- Darko's system sucks, he does not put the players in the best situation to succeed. 2- Casuals do not have the right to wear the Raps championship hat.
Will you do live streams after the game? I hope so. Anyway, enjoyed the show, as always.
Been thinking about it I will experiment with it for the regular season and maybe having a dedicated day that I do it for a month.
Guy in the green talks too much and interrupts everyone.
Stop trolling
Kelly brought the ball up the floor as a PG for half a season in Houston, and was named MVP for the team.
Kelly Olynk? This is how that team ended up doing: Record: 17-55, Finished 15th in NBA Western Conference
Great show. The Raps were in Montreal, among excited fans who rarely get to see them. That motivated them to play hard. Washington looked like they took the day off, probably enjoying the MTL night life. I think the word Beyond was looking for in his brick analogy, is mortar, ... however "paste" would be an interesting option, hahaha.
Some interesting takes. I would just like to comment on how well Darko’s system worked overall. I’m sure everyone agrees that the core players are BBQ. Two of them weren’t playing and the third played 14 minutes (during which he was easily the best player). Brown and Walter also weren’t playing. Yet the team completely outplayed Washington, had great ball movement and 39 assists. For a ragbag of mostly non-rotation players they looked really good. Add in RJ and the 4 who weren’t playing and this has the foundations of a good team.
I am not sure how well the system worked defensively. Offensively its a wait and see. I think the philosophy of the overall system isn't bad BUT I would like to see players shifted to different roles within the system. Like Barnes now being potentially used as a roller .. which will give him more high post looks to pass from is a much better decision. I would like to see more off ball screens run for a guy like Gradey. Regarding the specifics of assists. I don't read too much this early into stats especially in preseason where both teams are going to be more focused on trying to remain healthy and get some early information. But it will be interesting to see what happens. I think the test will be whether or not the offence can be one that allows us to be a top 12 or higher offence. Because defensively there are still challenges.
Mogbo. Great connector. Good handle. Goood size and stregth. Good feet. Hes ok. We have to develop him. But you cant teach size and strength. He will be a pf. That can bring up the ball and allow our guards to get in position.
I agree. He needs to improve his shooting and he doesn’t have the ability to read the game that he would have if he had come from a higher-level college program, but like Scottie he does everything else well. A year in the Raptors program and a lot of shooting reps and he’ll be a good one.
Size is the challenge right now. He will eventually be a small PF but even then he is still 6'6.25. In a league where most PF's are 6'9 and up. He will need to gain some of the on ball shooting skills in order to open up his game. It isn't to say it wont happen but there is a defined pathway because of the limitations for him.
Bonjour.. Ca va.. Great clip as always..
Appreciate it
How does the roster depth look after lasts nights game. We look solid for the point guard role. DJ will have to stay in the 905.
Shead and DJ will be 905 although Shead will be up a lot. We still could use additional talent in that area but it is fine enough for now.
We all agree that Boucher should be on this rotation based upon the Wizards. 😒 I would say Boucher being in the rotation depends on his ability to evolve. Boucher did well last night, but it's the Wizards. Can Boucher be a more savy player with higher tier teams?
Boucher has already shown he is scalable as long as he is put in positions to succeed. In otherwords, it is really line up dependent. Putting Boucher out there with Davion, Ochai, and another person who may struggle shooting will not help him or others.
Look at Boucher’s stat line. 13 pts 6 rebounds 0 assists. That’s not going to work for Darko. Sharing the ball is how this team will play. We had 39 assists on the night; Chris played decent minutes and got none. He doesn’t create for others or for himself. He might play a few minutes just to inject energy if the team’s a bit flat, but that’s about it.
Big up!
Another great show.. WNBA is active in the pursuit of justice and the new faces entering the WNBA league have to assume those responsibilities as well. The road has been paved for the new faces to enter, so they have to continue the tradition to pave the way for others wishing to join. Communication and protecting the sisterhood are part of the tenents of the WNBA league.
Great show, East teams are mixture of continuity and in-team development, and some new teams improved with new players... May the best man get te advantage...
appreciate the support as always
It is too early to predict how the raps will do this season. All eyes are on who will be the fifth starter, Dick, Walter, Mogbo, Brown and who's going to play backup center. There are way too many teams who will be worse and try to be worse than the Raps to get a high pick. I could see raps losing or winning in the playin. It's way too early for draft talk, but who will be at the 8-16 pick? I hope it's not another shooting guard.
Your standings at the end of the season determine your lottery odds. You do not need to be the worst team to get into the top 4. In fact if you are a team with the worst record you only have a 50/50 shot of staying in the top 4. I also don't think we will be picking above pick 14. Unless you see them making it through the play in. You are automatically bumped down. We will be covering who is going to be available. That said, BPA should be the focus.
We need Ed to sell Raptors to Tannebaum.
Larry doesn't have the scratch. We will see how things change moving forward though.
@BasketballRewind Larry need to rob a bank!
Ed trying to be the biggest playa in North America!
he certainly will be trying
The bench production will be a problem yet again. Why hire coach Darko? The lack of European talent on this team is terrible. This constant drafting of athletes who don’t shoot and are years away has to stop. Maybe its time for a serious management change. They need to do better scouting in Europe. The last few years have been filled with roster mistakes by Masai and Bobby.
Darko hire was doubling down on the continue errors made by this organization. I am not impressed by Darko.. not sure if he is capable of developing a great defensive team. I think he will be fire at the end of his contract
interestingly his contract details were never made public. all other coaching hires were made public in terms of salary and term last year.
The Raptors will not be a good team this year, they just don't have enough talent to be very competitive. That is not to say that some of the young players won't develop into good pieces for the future, it just won't happen this season, we have a long wait. Many fans want to believe in miracles, and they remember sometimes when the Raptors surprised, and overachieved. That won't happen this season for these 3 reasons; 1- Teams that overachieve are always teams that can defend. Playing good defense can help an average team win many extra games. We saw that in the past when the Raps D always made them competitive. The Raps are a bad defensive team this season, period. Hard to find players who can defend on this team. Barnes, Poeltl, are okay, but Barrett, IQ, Gradey, need a lot of work. Olynyk? Mitchell may help, it may be doubtful that Ochei gets many rotational minutes, if he does not get cut from the team. And we will be playing many rookies who are not experienced. Shead will be a good undersized defender, in the future ... but lets be honest, this is a bad defensive team, with a bad defensive coach. The Raps will not be winning games based on their "D". 2- Coaching? A brilliant coach like Nurse was able to find ways to get the most out of his teams. Darko is not a good coach, and not good at building around his players strengths. The Raptors coach is not capable of overachieving with this team, period. 3- Siakam was capable of winning many extra games for the Raps, and that has not been replaced. Even if Barnes takes the next step, Barrett & IQ, will not out perform what we got from Spicy & OG. A big drop off in immediate talent, and a lack of developed depth, will doom this team into being a lottery team. Frankly it is just being delusional to expect more from this team, next season.
Easy come easy Koloko
clever
Great show.. Love the opinions.. Supporting my guy #43VER #Pascal #Siakam and embracing the journey of our #Raptors
You all speak nothing but FACTS
What about Jimmy Butler to Okc? Might not be the best fit but could be intriguing.
The challenge with Jimmy is he doesn't shoot from 3 very well. Also they his game may not age as well since he relies more on a physical style of play vs finesse like KD. The other one they may actually wait for is Giannis.
@BasketballRewind yea thats true about Jimmy thats why I was saying it's not the best fit.
Your Koloko update was 10 seconds... And it wasn't even an update.
I will be sure to give a more in-depth one as a solo video covering doug smiths article.
Great video, as always. Keep up the great work!
Another good installment
I am not a Brandon Ingram fan, I don't recommend any team trading for him. I also think any team who trades for Kawhi, would be foolish. He is just too injury prone, and will never be healthy enough again. Lonzo is good, but just can't stay healthy.
he doesn't fully fit on a lot of teams to your point.
Beyond nailed it at 18:33
Good point about Rockets wanting a star, they tried to trade for Mikal Bridges last year
They have the right blend of contracts and can just sit and make the correct move and they have extra picks.
@BasketballRewind yea especially with Fred's contract, I forgot it's team option after this season.
Masai & Bobby, will twittle their thumbs again this season.
Well said about our F.O not treating our players good, we did it with Demar then Pascal and now Boucher. For a team thats doesnt attract free agents you would think they'd be very mindful of things like this.
hopefully it improves moving forward
Welcome back broadcast crew...Summer days are over.. We starting all over and we just have to see how much patience Scottie has with the process.
Scottie may not have a choice but to be fair they drafted his guy, and gave him a max contract so I sense he will have a bit more patience. The interesting notion comes in when thinking about how Pelley will feel about Masai's looming contract extension. IF masai exits stage left... things get interesting.
🎉I don’t know which of the first 10 games the Raptors will win, but I do think there will be some. The team is better than last year and they are playing some older teams. I’ll say 3-7 or possibly 4-6. This team might surprise us all.
I think 3-7 is the best outcome for the first 10 games 4-6 would be a shocker but ether way it will be fun to watch them grow.
Stop referencing Raptors fans freaking out talk about what you think. The fan support channels like this, but if you’re gonna be negative, we’re not gonna listen
If I look at the Raps 1st ten games, I see them going 0-10. However, they may luck out and catch some teams on an off night, and it is possible they will win a couple of games. The problem with this team, which makes me doubt they will surprise, or win many games is because of the bad defense. Neither the players, nor the coach give us much hope for the teams defense. The teams offense has not improved as much as many think. We lost Siakam, OG, & GTJ, ... replaced them with IQ, Barrett, ... We just got worse defensively, and we were not a great team anyway. Hard to steal many games when you can't defend. The positive is we will get a high lottery pick in next years great draft.
Absolutely. There are ways that we have actually taken a slight step back overall offensively. This is most obvious when looking at our "offensive refinement". This takes time for the players to develop that refinement. Time in the league and time on the court. It goes beyond any sort of system. Defensively we took a step back.. maybe a step and a half back. People oftentimes suggested siakam was a pylon on defence and yes, he wasn't what he was chasing around john wall under casey or even covering the Celtics J's in the bubble. But he knew how to pace himself throughout a season and was able to still be above average while giving good offensive production. That is tougher than many realize. This is most highlighted as fascinating when one realizes how healthy he was. We are going to push players who have never been in these positions to be in these positions. That means quickley can prepare his body all he wants but this will be the first time he will play this many minutes with this much attention. The body responds uniquely and we will see what happens. Same for Barnes and Barrett. If the plan is to reduce minutes...well we will discuss that for another day on Basketball Rewind. GTJ is a bit of a loss too ... some what understated. Not my favorite player but he highlights the aforementioned "refinement" on offence that I talked about. Long term this will potentially be the right move but people expect and like instant results.
@@BasketballRewind I agree with everything you stated. Siakam is a very good defender, who sometimes has to pace himself in that end because of the demands made on him in the offensive end. I remember in the playoffs against the 76ers, Fred was injured, and the Raps offense was working the best when Siakam was carrying the ball up the court. Nurse acknowledged that but said that physically they could not ask Pascal to do anymore. Siakam was not the same type of defender as OG. Pascal's biggest strength on D was that he used his speed, length, & motor to cover and clog up the floor, for the opponents.
Next Olympics will be in L.A., hopefully the USA will still be a democratic country by then? I think the Olympics were great, but hard to follow on TV. We used to have a quick recap segment on TV every hour, to help us navigate the Olympics, telling us what sports will be shown, where Canadians have a chance to medal, etc ... They don't do that very well now, and when they do the recap stuff it is hard to find, and often after the events. I was so pissed off at the editors on CBC. I was on the edge of my seat enjoying the womens last soccer game, then in overtime they went split screen showing another sport, not involving a Canadian, and boring talk on that sport. All I could see was a tiny pic of the soccer game in the corner with no play by play. I was literally cussing out my screen. I hope CBC fired that incompetent editor! I missed some sports like the extreme skateboarding & biking? Also the trampoline sport? Not sure if they still have those sports, and I just missed them, or if those sports were removed from the Olympics?
