You wouldn't happen to have any hard numbers and evidence suppporting that "hundreds of miles" figure, would you? Stuff I found in an old "Janes" gives detection range within 100 miles. "Mig 25 made for to intercept Sr 71 black bird, B1 bomber, XB70 Valkyrie and other bombers " SR-71 didn't exist in 1961 when the Soviets began develioping the MiG-25. Neither did the B-1. XB-70 was never built, and cancelled within 2 months of MiG-25's being officially authorized. The Soviets spent the next decade developing the MiG-25, so the connection to XB-70 is also non-existent.

You mean the US didn't think that the MiG-25 was a high speed, high altitude missile-armed interceptor?

Actually the USSR had done that for years. The MiG-15 in Korea, the MiG-21 in Vietnam, also the MiG-17 and MiG-19. The USSR had produced many aircraft that, while crude, earned the respect of the west.

Yeah. It’s honestly kinda interesting to think that in its intended purpose its supposed to be doing its absolute best to defend against nuclear bombers and protect its homeland. In this case thank god it was never needed for it’s intended purpose. Beautiful airframe too. Without it we wouldn’t have the f15 and if i remember correctly (Im probably wrong but nvm that) the mig 29. Both of which are absolutely beautiful airframes

the f-15 is a copy by the americans because they got the mig 25 because of Viktor Ivanowitsch Belenko (he landed the MiG-25 in Hakodate) in Japan on the 6th of September in 1976 .if you dont know history then dont write this garbage capiche ?

I think it actually held its own when it faced the f15 in combat. There was a battle in one of the wars with iraq where two foxbats faced 2 f15s and while the f15s weren’t shot down they had to run away first. Still in the long run the foxbats survived to then be promptly captured by iranians but still

@@heavenstrike3471 If its the one im thinking of two mig-25s battles 2 f-15s to effectively a stalemate. I think the f15s were more damaged but they were still operable.
