No Need to Cry - SMR 21 AUG 24 [Re-Broadcast]
This movie came out 6 years after To Live And Die In L.A.
"As the lyricists of 'All That She Wants,' we wanted to explore the existential plight of modern humanity through the metaphor of a gold-digging, beach-loving free spirit. The 'baby' she doesn't want isn't just a literal child; it's a rejection of societal burdens, expectations, and 401(k) plans. It's really about the cyclical nature of desire and the human condition. Think Sartre, but with a reggae beat." - 1993 interview with Ace of Base, as quoted in Rolling Stone Magazine
Honestly, Ace of Base is the Shakespeare of our generation. 'I saw the sign' isn't just a lyric-it's a metaphor for enlightenment, self-discovery, and the meaning of life itself. We should all aspire to this level of poetic genius.
if you're serious, that makes your comment even funnier. That song is about a girl putting on a choker with a ankh dangling from it and realized guys started talking to her more often.
@@shockmonkeyradio7128 The ankh is a symbol of life, and the choker represents the constraints of societal expectations. It's a profound commentary on how superficiality can unlock doors in a shallow world. Ace of Base were clearly operating on a plane the rest of us mere mortals can only dream of.

I think the first Superman film is the best superhero film ever made. They really capture the character and everything about it is perfect. The bit when he catches the helicopter. If you combined the Richard Donner cut of Superman 2 with the Richard Lester version you could get a film as good as Superman One
I'm not that bothered if you think the Sex Pistols are shit.I mentioned the Sex Pistols because that's how I got into a conversation with you if you remember.I actually love the first Superman film from 1978 and think it's a masterpiece.I also love Never Mind The Bollocks.I first saw Superman the original movie at 10 and bought the Pistols album at 16.I suppose they're both kind of formative for me .
oh yeah, those Richard Donner Superman movies were epic. I don't think they will ever do a better Superman movie like those again. Also, i know how it was back in the late 70s, early 80s. An album was like 3 weeks allowance so we played them until the tape snapped and we used scotch tape to fix it. If it makes you feel better, I am huge fan of Queen and Dave Matthews Band. While objectively better bands...they certainly are not cool.
Some good impressions there my man
Yes, Superman is a flake but the man super has so much responsibility and at least two decent villains in his rogues gallery.I still haven't got over you dismissing the Sex Pistols but I'll join this debate
that's kind of the point, i regret that i didn't touch on it, but Superman is the god-like character that has to be a part of everything happening the DC comics universe. therefore blood drives and Lois suffer for it. Superman is fictional, and yet is way more productive to think about than the very real and very terrible Sex Pistols.
Donald Trump has made Grover Cleveland relevant... 😂

Fat and stupid is no way to go through life, homie.
It's a film with an interesting theme, I watched it and liked it, especially the angels design in this film. And Michael in the promotional images looks really fine, showing off his good physique (there's a shot of him shirtless at the beginning of the film) and showing off those gorgeous, beautiful black wings outstretched in all their glory, each of their feathers perfectly aligned

I think the writing in the first season of the original series of Star Trek was great.I could never get into Next Generation.I think a lot of things you say about Star Trek are true but some of the episodes in the first season are wonderful like the one when Spock falls in love and Space Seed the first Khan outing. The first season of Star Trek has some of the best American TV sci-fi concepts this side of The Outer Limits. All the mini skirts were there to sell the show because science fiction has always been a bit risky compared to your average cop show
You've really worked on your essay here and I like it
You should do some stand up .This isn't a bad routine about Spider-Man
I get too nervous on stage. I'm better alone with a camera.
@@shockmonkeyradio7128 I didn't construct that sentence very well about your Spiderman stand up,it must be the punk influence affecting my literacy. You seem so confident on this channel .Though Stand up can be pretty nerve wracking with the bottom line being a laughing audience.
@@MartinJones-f5o reactions in the moment distract me. If they laugh or not. You seem literate. You type a lot. What I think is funny is that no one commented on my ukulele videos saying I need to sing more. Johnny Rotten would whoop my ass at karaoke.
You should do another video slagging off punk because you got quite a lot of comments
There's certainly less fans of Ace of Base. But I move on to other things. Blame it on my ADD, baby. After all, I didn't want to turn my channel into a "Nightwing's Butt" channel just because it is my most viewed video. Plus "slagging off punks" sounds more dirty here in America.
I was going to say Dazzler was objectively terrible but I won't.Actually Dazzler is cute in the only way comic book heroines can be .I used to read Marvel comic books before I got into the old punk rock.We do have punk rock and Marvel comics in Britain because our rationing allowance has been increased slightly since 1945.I think perhaps Mr Shock that they could produce a top television drama featuring Dazzler as she is one of the lesser characters in the Marvel universe.Though I don't think this Dazzler chick is popular enough to have a multimillionaire movie made about her yet .
<sarcasm > because if they make an x-men movie they have to feature wolverine </sarcasm > I always liked B-tier heroes in comics. That's why Deadpool was so good. I think DC should make a Blue Beetle and Booster Gold movie. Good to know there is some cross-over between punk and comics nerds.
@@shockmonkeyradio7128 We do use the word nerd in Britain and America is to blame
Bro I've never heard another share what I discovered. As a professional water and snow skier you don't make money but love it After hours is when money was made. Bar pool dice darts but living North shore Tahoe blackjack came into the picture Burden of bust Thank you for that Yeah let the dealer bust Why do it to yourself? My betting method Late '80s '90s $60 in pocket Goal $20 to 100 Three $20 sits Lose $20 Must leave table Win $100 Must leave casino 95%+ win ratio Once ahead Double down on everything Split big ones Once ahead from $20 sit suicide bomb to $100 If the $20 is now 40 or 60 it don't take long to get to 100 Think burden of bust reversed double down for the c note and bye bye casino Great video bro
Uh....thank you!
@@shockmonkeyradio7128 I swear that betting method rarely failed because I discovered my way to it. Today's math would be 3 sits of $100 to win $500 With this method many times I walked out of the casino with $140 because I didn't have to sit more than once The key is leaving the table based on the bets and results Hardest thing to do
If you don't wanna count cards ok but at least advise somewhat accurately on basic strategy? You don't hit on 13 or higher. If the dealer has 7,8,9,10 or Ace you hit, it's basic strategy. You are playing a losing game man. Most of the time the dealer does not bust & how will that 13 or 14 do in that case?
I hate busting my own hand.
Entertaining but wrong, a perfectly good band, the only one who really couldn't play was Sid and he was just a replacement for the far superior Matlock. The old "it was just fashion" line gets chucked around, but I think they would've had only a fraction of the impact if they didn't have the music to back it up.
I'd go as far to call The Sex Pistols "Performance Art", but they are objectively terrible. The talent is minimal, the music theory is non-existent, and the lyrics are shallow and offensive for it's own sake. Bo Burnham is a musician who wants to be a performance artist but The Sex Pistols were performance artists who wanted to be musicians. I wish they survived into the MTV Unplugged era and then everyone would understand what i'm talking about. (I watched that series "Pistol", that's what got me thinking about all this. That series is better than that band ever was.)
@@shockmonkeyradio7128 Taking it a point at a time I think the problem is that you have a subjective definition of "objectively terrible". "talent is minimal". Well I don't think anyone was ever claiming they were Genesis , but Matlock, Jones, and Cook are all decent musicians who were perhaps learning on the job. "music theory is non-existent" - it's not prog, it's three chord rock and roll ; the lyrics aren't the strongest (The Clash were better ) though Lydon has always had a knack for a memorable line, I'm not sure he'd agree with "offensive for it's own sake" though ; there was perhaps an element of performance art with Lydon though he wouldn't call it that, more that he refused to take the role of rock star seriously, the rest of teh performance art aspects came from Malcolm McLaren. Jones , Cook and Matlock I think just wanted to egt on with being a rock band, it's telling that afdter the Pistols they formed the Professionals who were pretty much just a rock band. I saw them live twice when they reformed , again a good band with the weak point being that Lydon by that point sounded liek a pantomime dame making a hideous wailing noise - he sounded great in the 70s , even if he wasn't a conventyional singer. Pistol from the clips I've seen looks terrible, I'm going to read the Steve Jones biography it's based on instead.

Always saw the ramones and sex pistols in a similar light. Groups shrouded in DIY aesthetic and counter culture vibes. But both feel like they’re managed and formed in a lab.

Original Sex Pistols bassist Glenn Matlock was more talented than Cobain. Matlock wrote all but 2 of the Pistols songs. They actually had to hire him back to play on the album because Sid Vicious couldn't learn the songs before the deadline! The Sex Pistols will always be the best example of coasting off one album for decades.

@@shockmonkeyradio7128 I'm not tone deaf by any stretch, I love it. You sound like a 77 year old man in 1977, an anachronism of an anachronism.
@@shockmonkeyradio7128 I was a music fan since childhood and a music journalist in the 70s and 80s in the UK and like all kinds, from west coast jazz to the Velvet Underground and Love. To me the Pistols were really a singles band. Bollocks doesn't work as a coherent album and the best songs were the work of Glen Matlock. The Spunk bootleg demos is a better listen. Sid Vicious had no talent whatsoever of course, but the Pistols weren't just about fashion, though the punk scene was infested with outfits inspired by their success far more deserving of that insult for sure.
@@Mistersandyrobertson there's no accounting for taste. I can't stop people from liking terrible music. However, ranking the Sex Pistols as better than The Stones, Van Halen, and Motley Crue, as Gavin did, is a bridge too far.
