Kleon wasn't a bad general but his hatred of Sparty was probably counter productive as it prevented peace. His populist leader - cf Donald Trump, Boris Johnson and perhaps Stalin and Hitler - was poplular with the masses but not the upper classes, again this may not have been the best for Athens..
