From Jekyll and Hyde. I ended my Niece's Wedding Karaoke cd with this one. Never played the role. Played Utterson but had a fun time singing this.

My favorite song from the Karaoke CD I made for my niece's wedding. Perry Como is from Cannonsburg PA. Not far from where I grew up. So I always loved this song.

I played Henry Spofford in the 1995 Revival. This song is not in the original score but from 1957's television's RUGGLES OF RED GAP, so I was thrilled Jule Styne added it. Karen Prunczik plays Dorothy.

When I saw this on Broadway, I have to admit I was disappointed after I opened my program before the show started and saw Douglas Sills was out for the performance and that I would be seeing the understudy, George Dvorsky. Mind you, I'd never heard Douglas Sills sing before. My only reference for The Scarlet Pimpernel musical was the concept album with Chuck Wagner, who I enjoyed very much. I just assumed Douglas Sills must be fantastic because he got the part on Broadway and that the understudy was well, "not as good." Very quickly, George blew me away with his all-around performance, but especially how he sang the role. When I eventually got the Broadway cast album and heard Sills for the first time, I must as admit I was very glad I saw the "understudy" on Broadway instead. Not that there was anything wrong with Sills, but George's overall portrayal and singing voice was more commanding, manly, and what I would expect a hero of the 18th century to be. His was one of the few Broadway performances I never forgot along with his name.

They really were something special not just some hit in the moment. I know a lot of yall don't understand but I've seen them in person and tried to follow. You can see the relationship struggles in the performance but they were still beautiful performers. Was a pleasure to meet you. She might be showing out a bit but hes earned it and the respect that goes with it.

@@georgedvorsky2051 I am her cousin Laura from California. They all call me by my full name Laura Lee on that side of the family. My dad is her uncle. It's just interesting because I'm almost 50 years old and over the last couple years I've been listening to and studying opera singers I am by no means one but I probably should have been. I can't believe after all this time with my father being a musician, he's a tenor sax player, but his voice type is a bass actually a dramatic bass or basso profundo and I went all this time wondering what the heck was wrong with my voice why it would get so weird around other female singers and I thought I wasn't a real singer. I am a rock singer I do a lot of covers they're all sung by male vocalists. I had been thinking the only thing my voice was good for was being able to project over drums and guitar turned up to *11" with bad monitors and PA system. My voice goes up to 12!! Turns out I'm the female equivalent of my father's bass voice. I'm a dramatic contralto. I had never even heard the term until almost 2 years ago. Not only that the weirdest thing is seems like an opera these types of voices sing in about the same range as my dad's tenor saxophone and I'm wondering how the heck did anyone miss this in my family and why didn't anyone put me in touch with Lee. Even though I know she's a soprano LOL about the complete opposite of me. But there is literally nothing outside the classical genre that pays attention to this voice type. I guess it's really rare. I know she teaches at a university that's why I'd like to get in touch with her.

This is one of my favorite Rodgers and Hammerstein songs. It’s a song that is so beautiful and heart-rendering that it never fails to move me no matter how many different versions I’ve heard of it. I think it really speaks to anyone who’s ever felt lonely and longing for love:

I saw an original production at the theater de lys in 1970. Maybe it was because it was only 35 years after the Ruby/dick films, but the show was perfectly performed by 6 actors. Every other revival or redo of the show “didn’t get it.” Usually it was overdone by making the cast larger. But, it looks like this 1985 cast knew what they were doing! Just the right amounts of seriousness and playfulness.
