My grandpa told me: "Real men can start a old ford with cranking it once and when it kicksback you dont cry like a women." Those where the days

Wow, my dad's first car was a model a. He had one in high school in the 1940's. I wonder if he had to hand crank it to start it?

Now thats what i call a real car. Takes you from A to B and simple to repair. Just look at that engine and room you got for working on it. Simple mechanics! Not these craps that we have today... Brake in few years and you got to buy a new one. Theres no more love for the cars as before, its more quantity over quality. Its a shame that new cars would never be able to be restored in the future as old ones, because of bunch electronics, plastik and other things. Btw. really nice car you've got there ;)

My dad (RIP,b.1911) told me specifically how important it was to keep your thumb in back of the crank, same side as your fingers, not grasping it opposing. So if it kicked, your thumb wouldn't get torn off. I guess that was a problem w crank start autos. Safety first! 😃

Don't wrap your thumb around the crank. If it kicks back it will not break your thumb.

Well none of my teachers touched one but were all under the impression that cranking those engines up sometimes you’d break an arm

Not much compression there. The hand crank is designed to slip if turned the opposite direction in a backfire situation (kickback)
