Knocking the nose off a statue seems to have been a common way for the Romans to disrespect the person (or god) depicted.
Yes and there are theories that ancient Egyptians had a similar practice because there are a good amount of images with broken noses. Though those theories are centered around "killing" the spirit of the person in the statue by cutting off their breathing
Great info, thank you 👍🏾
Thank you Melissa for busting that myth about Napoleon and the Sphinx's nose.
Cool!
Great job, beautiful work ! Just a suggestion btw Can u do more vids on pieces that have a fascinating story behind them also.
@@vihansenalvi3002 This is a series about artifacts that I either see in person or find on an auction website. So currently I am going through this recent auction, to try and give these pieces a space before they go behind closed doors in a private collection.

Sacrificing some drops of your brest milk to the god that protects your family in order to have a vision that will tell you what to do in this or that stress full situation that are legions in parenthood, it perfectly make sens. In these days, we call it Vindredis. No god, no blood, no brest milk but wine and good friends talking about their children. Parenthood would be parenthood.

@@vinceneukom9708 This wouldn’t be in Greece but in Egypt. But since Greeks lived in Egypt around this time, some of these practices absolutely could be a mix of Egyptian and Greek traditions
@MelissainDeNile didnt they specify that it was proto Egyptian Dynasty and greek populace.? I hear wrong sometimes.
@@vinceneukom9708 If by proto Egyptian you mean Predynastic Egyptian, then no. This is thousands of years later so during the Greek period in Egypt it is a mixture of native Egyptians, Persians and other Mesopotamian cultures, and Greeks. In the Late Period, quite a few other nations conquered Egypt like the Persians, before Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire and this took Egypt with it.
Post egyptian dynasty, thanks
Cool
Interesting thank you

Ancient Egyptians were black Africans
Some several months ago in mid September Dr Zawi Hawass said he would be identifying the mummy of king Tut's step mother Nefertiti & queen Ankhesenamun in October. It's now nearly New Year and there has been no announcement to my knowledge. If the DNA process is taking longer than expected couldn't he at least have given an update after October rather than keep people hanging about ? Any news would be welcome.
DNA analysis does take a while, especially because there are theories that ancient DNA could have been severely degraded overtime. He might also be writing a paper on it after they get the results, so that would make it a longer process. But I could be wrong, I thought that he was announcing that he was going to try to find Nefertiti and her tomb. And if I remember I don't think he had any real basis in the statment, he just said something like "I will be the one to find it eventually."
He was born 1334 actually, and his mother is Kiya
It’s extremely hard to pick hard and fast dates of births of Pharaohs that’s why I used approximate dates. And while we know from DNA testing that Tutankhamun’s mother was The Younger Lady we don’t have enough evidence to identify her as Kiya. We have only been able to identify her as a daughter of Phaorah Amenhotep III making her a sister of Akhenaten.
One of the museums you have marked is the one I go to all the time! I hope you get to visit it someday because I would love to hear your commentary on all the stuff they have
