    I love love love your reading vlogs! Now I want to read something horror! The last one I read was 'My heart is a chainsaw' (thank you for gifting it to me 😊). Which one would you recommend I should pick up?

    First of all you fixed that shelf so well! I could not even tell it was once broken! And second, you have sooooooo many books! Haha! I was loving seeing the physical editions of some of my favorite fantasy books! It was so soothing to see all the books in a series put together, if you know what I mean!😊 Also, whenever you and Connor decide to buy a house, I absolutely cannot wait to see your library!🥰

    So happy to know Connor will be back soon! Reading his Instagram posts has been an adventure in itself! Both of you have a way with words and explain things so well! Your book reviews got me back into reading!😊 Loving The Bone Season series! So happy we decided to re-read it! I had forgotten so much as well! I actually kind of remembered the first book quite a bit but the second feels like a new book altogether sans the climax. The Galaxy and the Ground Within sounds something up my alley! I will definitely give it a read! Not sure when but it's added to my TBR list.😊

    I loved this vlog so much! I have never been to any Convention (except the Nail Polish one but that's mostly about shopping), so this vlog was very interesting to me! Thank you for summarizing the panel discussions as well! I have not read another horror book after 'My Heart is a Chainsaw' which I absolutely loved! May be I will pick up 'Lagoon' after your review! The summary sounds more up my alley! So happy you had such a fun time! It's a blessing when you share hobbies with your siblings! One of my sisters and I, both do nail art and collect nail polishes, I went to the Convention last year with her and I had a blast! So happy both of you had such a wonderful trip! Thank you for vlogging your experience! I was very excited to watch it!🥰

    Holy cow! Those sound great! Especially the first one about books with human binding, the one about the science of horror movies, and the one with the lady that works in the crematory. I would read all of these, and I will also recommend Mind Hunter by John Douglas. It is about the origin of the FBI serial killer profiling program.

I could not believe how much info I had forgotten!😳 I also absolutely loved that you picked up crocheting! Cannot wait to see the finished scarf! It already looks so beautiful! I loved the crocheted Baby Yoda outfit your mum made for my baby and will cherish it forever!🥹 Also, I wish I could read gross & gore books as I want to read everything you give five stars to! She had a lot of fun making it ☺️ I used to hate scary things for the longest time, and ever since finishing school I’ve now loved it. Absolutely loved this video! Now I want to read 'The Last Murder....'!🥺 I am going to try to answer the questions! Might be a long comment again! I am so sorry! 🙈 Best book read so far: House of Flame & Shadow (it's more like 4.5 stars for me coz you know I didn't like the ending! But I absolutely enjoy everything that Maas writes and this book was no exception.) Second one is 'Echo of Old Books'. Best sequel in 2024: War of Two Queens (Blood & Ash series Book 4). The characters jumped right into action starting from chapter 1 and there was wayyyyy less conversation! Absolutely loved it! New release in 2024 that I want to read: It's a pretty recent one actually 'The God and The Gumiho' coz BKL just posted about it, they are loving it, so now I am curious! Most anticipated release of second half: None, as of now! :( Biggest disappointment so far: You already know, 'A soul of Ash and Blood (Blood & Ash Book 5) Biggest surprise: Echo of Old Books (not my usual high fantasy genre but I could not put it down, was recommended this book by an IG frnd) Daughter of the Moon Goddess: Didn't expect to like it as much as I did, may be coz I went into it with very low expectations! New favorite author: (Unfortunately) none, so far. :( Newest fictional crush: None :( Newest favorite character: Reaver from Blood & Ash series Book that made me cry: Fortunately none so far :) Book that made me happy: I smiled here and there while reading a couple of books but nothing made me laugh so far! :( Most beautiful book bought: You know I almost exclusively purchase Kindle editions but I thought the cover of 'Throne of the Fallen' was beautiful! It was also the first book I read this year!😊 Books I need to read by the end of the year: (A lot!) I want to read Electric Kingdom, The God and The Gumiho, Ruthless Vows (Divine Rivals Book 2), Mistborn Book 2 by Brandon Sanderson and finish re-reading the Bone season to prepare myself for 'The Dark Mirror'! (Soooo excited about it)😊

    • @pagesandprose
      @pagesandprose 4 місяці тому

      Omg yay I’m so happy to see your answers!! And never apologize for long comments, they make me happy!! Oh wow, I just looked up The Echo of Old Books and it sounds really interesting!! I added it to my list to hopefully read eventually! I’m glad that book 4 of Blood and Ash was so good, but it sucks that the series seems to be such a rollercoaster from each book. Oh, I definitely agree, the cover for Throne of the Fallen is soooo pretty! Oh my goodness, I’m so excited to do my re-read of The Bone Season series to prep for the next book! I haven’t decided when I am going to start my re-read, it might not be until end of July or maybe August.

      @pagesandprose Let me know and we can do a buddy read for the Bone season! I hate re-reading books! Only God knows how I managed to re-read Crescent City books, so having someone re-read with me might help! We can make a plan of how many pages or chapters we need to finish each day!😊

    Fantastic Land sounds soooo good but I am scared of reading horror novels!🙈 I absolutely loved the one you gifted me (My heart is a Chainsaw) but I havent dared to read any other horror novels after that one. Cannot wait to know how you liked Fantasticland. Also, I have finally decided to read Electric Kingdom. Just waiting for double/triple kindle point days to download the book.😊 I LOVED the earrings on you! And absolutely loved the ones you got from the market. The horror book event sounds so exciting. Will you be vlogging the event??

    • @pagesandprose
      @pagesandprose 4 місяці тому

      I think if you were okay with the gore and violence in My Heart is a Chainsaw, then Fantasticland shouldn’t be too bad for you. Fantasticland doesn’t have any supernatural or paranormal horror if that helps at all! Ooohh!!! That’s super exciting! I hope you end up enjoying it! Aww thank you! And I definitely plan to do some sort of vlog for the convention! I’m not sure exactly how much I’ll vlog, since I get really self-conscious filming in public, but I definitely plan to do some sort of video for it!

    Absolutely love this video! I loved the Midnight one as well! I won't call myself a swiftie but I do love Taylor Swift and her songs a lot!🥰 City of Brass and The Starless Sea sound really interesting to me! I may pick them up if Bees Knees can stop releasing collections based on books or release a collection on something I have already read!🤪 Not that I am complaining about the beautiful polishes!😊 I almost squealed with delight as soon as I saw HOEAB included in this video! I was really hoping for a SJM book to make the cut!😊 I would love a video if you can suggest books based on your favorite BKL polishes or nail polishes in general whether they be inspired by the book cover, story or just the name!🥰

    So this is going to be a loooooong comment! Please bear with me!😉 First of all, I wouldn't mind a 2 and a half week vlog from you because I love your videos so much!🥰 I almost got teary-eyed seeing the BTS poster in your room! Jin is about to come back and I am so excited, not only for his return but to see if he releases any individual albums or collaborates with other artists! Also, Electric Kingdom sounded so interesting but unfortunately I refrain from reading any books that have a sad ending!😢 I can't handle them for some reason and keep thinking about them for days! So please tell me if it was a sad ending or a happy one! I am so sorry it made you cry but that also showed how invested you were in the book! If it's not a sad ending, then I am going to give it a read! Currently, I am still reading Daughter of the Moon Goddess and absolutely loving it!😊 Also, extremely sorry about all the construction noise! I hope it didn't go on for days! They should have given you a warning!😡 So sorry about the 'thesis' of a comment 🤪 but I absolutely cannot wait to see your next vlog!🥰 And loved watching Toast enjoying the sun! 🌞 P.S. I knew I was forgetting something!🤣 I absolutely love to see what other ppl have highlighted in a book or their notes! I don't read a lot of physical books so I do not encounter notes and tabs from the previous readers often but in Kindle, they do highlight any quotes or sentences (with a dotted line) that have been highlighted by several readers! Some ppl find it distracting and turn off the feature but I absolutely love knowing that, so I always get happy whenever I see the dotted line on a page! It also shows you the number of ppl that have highlighted the quote or sentence!😁

    • @pagesandprose

      Awww, don’t ever apologize for a long comment! It makes me happy when I get to to my videos make at least one person happy! And yes! Jin coming back soon is so exciting!!! I hope he’s able to make a full album. The ending to Electric Kingdom is a weird mix of hopeful but sad. But if sad endings really bother you these days, I’d err on the side of caution and maybe wait to pick it up at a time where you are in a better position to not leave a negative impact on you. I’m sorry that sad endings have been exceptionally hard lately 😢 but I’m so glad you are loving Daughter of the Moon Goddess!! I really wanted to enjoy that one more than I did, so it makes me happy that you are loving it! And luckily the construction noise only went on for that one day, because it was definitely driving me crazy haha. And oh my goodness yes! 5-7 is pretty average for me to but I start to pick it up during fall and winter to shoot for 10 if I can..... What is book of the month exactly? It's it worth it I've come across a few booktuber talking about it.... Great video... Subbed

      Thanks for watching and subbing! Book of the Month is a monthly subscription service where each month there are 5 books to pick from. They are all hardcover new releases. I think it’s worth it, as I primarily read fantasy and this has helped me branch out more into other genres such as thriller/mystery, contemporary, historical, and even romance here and there.

    obsessed with the concept for this video... i am READY. ooh the grace year! i remember people talking about that before it came out, but i feel like i completely missed any hype it got. im INTRIGUED. oh man the bone season... i SWEAR i'll pick that up when more books are out. it's like brando sando--waiting for a ten book series is like a marriage commitment, think of the YEARS!!! oh my god slow burn horror with messy characters... I FEEL DIRECTLY ATTACKED. yes yes yES YES plain bad heroines is PERFECT for this!!! i'm intrigued by the space between worlds--ive seen it in stores but i didn't know much about it. this is such a good selection! GOD beasts of extraordinary circumstance sounds so good, i just keep forgetting it exists for some reason. SOMEDAY! someday... oh bitch!! i feel like ive hyped up im thinking of ending things so much for myself that im so afraid im going to hate it (crying emoji). oh i remember when lore came out and for some reason a lot of people hated it?? i thought it was GOOD though? maybe its because i dont read a lot of stuff like it. OOH BLOODBORNE im ready. SIX GUN TAROT!!! i thought this was on my tbr from the last time you mentioned this but i guess not? THANK YOU For reminding me. it sounds so good. omg iron widow.. YESSS. i feel like "the change" might also fit a feminine rage prompt minus the transformers... "middle age suburban women finally snap and blow up a town" might be a good prompt for that. THE PROMPT FOR PIRANESI FITS SO WELL literally my experience reading that book akjsdf;akshdf utterly destroyed me. SUCH A GOOD VIDEO!! this was so fun. (sorry ive been flooding you with messages today. i've been sitting at my computer all day so it's like... ALL COMMUNICATION ALL AT ONCE. typically i only turn my computer on to edit videos XD)

    • @pagesandprose
      @pagesandprose 2 роки тому

      I feel like you would like The Grace Year tbh. And yesss I completely understand the marriage commitment thing haha. Samantha Shannon takes like 2-3 years per book (which is fine because each one is def worth the wait, plus that's not horribly long imo), but she's also been working on Priory of the Orange Tree (which I also HIGHLY recommend) companion stuff in between TBS stuff, so it takes a while lol. I also think you would like The Space Between Worlds, at least for the interesting social commentary. There's a small romance subplot that I didn't think was all that compelling sadly, but the rest of it completely made up for that. Ahhh I completely understand the scared-I'm-gonna-hate-it-because-so-much-hype feeling BUT I'm Thinking of Ending Things is worth all the hype imo. dude I don't understand the hate behind Lore, that book was such a fun high-octane ride! Yesss Six Gun Tarot! It's just one of those that's so good if you're just looking for a fun read. I do still stand by my comment about the questionably micro-aggression word-choice used, but I still can't decide if it was to emulate the time period or if it was just written in 2013 when those terms were still fairly common in books. There was a really good Kindle deal for The Change so I ended up buying it after seeing you talk about it in your last video (I mean, who knows when I'll get to it because my owned-TBR is COMPLETELY out of control, but I have it now at least lol) DON'T APOLOGIZE FOR ALL THE MESSAGES!!! I LOVE TALKING WITH YOU!!! <3 <3 <3

    I screamed when you mentioned Connor asking for a recommendation that is similar to Bloodborne. One because Bloodborne is one of my top games, and two because I literally had Bloodborne vibes when I read Dreams Lie Beneath by Rebecca Ross.

    OKAY i am READY for this video. i tried to read a nonfiction book a month in 2020, but i fell off the wagon in early 2021 after i wasn't super happy with what i was picking up. right now that ONLY nonfiction on my ENTIRE tbr is "i'm glad my mom died" and i DEFINITELY need recommendations. ooh radium girls! that's what started the whole nonfiction thing for me in 2020, haha. i STILL think about that book... terrifying, and so insightful into how influential these young women were into the worker's rights movement--usually we think of burly coal miners. oh the devil in the white city! i hope you enjoy it! i got kind of overwhelmed with the architectural stuff but that's DEFINITELY on me as someone who like... actively hates architecture (the curse of having previously worked for a construction company). CHESS??? girl your BRAIN!!! i tried to watch the queen's gambit but i feel like i was just along for the vibes because i just did NOT get what was going on with the actual, like, chess part. your braincells must be beefy. WOW sin in the second city sounds SO INTERESTING!!! 👀same with warriors, witches, women--i hadn't heard of either of those! great video as always!! <3 <3

    • @pagesandprose
      @pagesandprose 2 роки тому

      tbh I was hard-core slacking in July and almost didn't pick up a non-fiction book this month (ended up picking up Hood Feminism, which I'm really enjoying) so I feel ya with falling off the wagon. It's so easy when escapism is just right. there. lol. I'm suuuper interested in I'm Glad My Mom Died, but I'm also a bit scared because it sounds like it is another one of those super hard-hitting and emotional memoirs. I still need to finish Radium Girls! It was sooo interesting, but also super aggravating. Ahhh that makes a lot of sense, I feel like I would hate the architecture part in Devil in the White City if I worked for a construction company too. lol no way chess goes over my head most of the time too, I just find it super fascinating in general, but also really rewarding during the rare times I'm completely following what's happening lol. I've been putting off watching the Queen's Gambit, because there's a lot of sexism in the chess community and I've been trying to work up the courage to go to my local library's chess club, but since I'm bad I don't want them to think I'm just there because I watched Queen's Gambit, since it's a common remark that women who are new to chess receive. But I really want to watch it lol. Anya Taylor-Joy is an absolute icon. <3 <3 <3

    week 2 here we gooo! OMG JAWBONE! i love that your justification for reading this is basically that "it's always sunny in Philadelphia" meme of the guy with red string going IT'S ALL CONNECTED lol. god the summary for jawbone is just... so much. obsessed. oooh, congrats on the beta read! i hope it goes well! WOAH JAWBONE IS FUNKY it looks exactly like "ghost wall" was formatted--with those massive paragraphs that contain multiple dialogue exchanges, etc.--ghost wall also didn't use quotations half the time and it DEFINITELY threw me for a loop. oh man i'm so intrigued. oooh parenthesis and em dashes... an attack on me specifically lol. aww, i'm sorry this wasn't a total winner for you. i am definitely still intrigued, although i am a little apprehensive about what you're saying with regards to sexual awakenings through a horror lens. i can absolutely see how that would be uncomfortable. HOWEVER you're checking all of my boxes with the bunny and my heart is a chainsaw. nooo you don't have a tiny little pea brain! take it back!! ooh interesting! i always take off dust jackets when i read bc i think they ALL feel weird--i like the feel of the books best. man, a forgery of roses sounds so cool--goth fantasy vibes!! oh nooo. it sounds like it would have been better if it had been adult and/or longer? bummer that it didn't hit the mark! TRIPPING ARCADIA OOOH i can't WAIT to hear your thoughts. i literally just bought that today, haha. this readathon sounds like it was so much fun!! great video!! can't wait for the next!! <3 <3

    • @pagesandprose
      @pagesandprose 2 роки тому

      Honestly, I feel like you should still check out Jawbone, because I still really liked it despite it confusing me at points, and I feel like it would be something you would like? I honestly really loved the formatting choices that were made, but no quotations in ghost wall would KILL ME lol. I really should take off dust jackets more while reading them so I don't cause the little wear-and-tear marks on the edges from putting the book in my bag and stuff, but unless the naked hardback has a pretty design, I'd rather have the pretty dust jacket to look at. Yessss I definitely think that A Forgery of Roses would've been so good as a longer and adult book instead, just simply for fleshing out the characters a bit more earlier on and making it a bit creepier. Okay so I had similar issues with Tripping Arcadia, where I wasn't really digging the first half of the book, but the second half was super interesting and had more of the vibes-factor. The first half felt like we rushed through a bunch of scenes and had so much telling instead of showing. So I just wasn't feeling the emotions that I felt I was supposed to be feeling with the characters, but I did find the second half much more engaging. I'm super interested to see how you feel about it once you read it! Thanks for always watching!!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3

    Oooh a vlog!!! i can't wait!! these are always so fun to watch (: im glad you're enjoying the readathon! omg im sooooo glad youre liking (you liked!!) gideon the ninth! oh wow! i had no idea you were an editor? omg wait pausing to go watch the new mexico vlog... OKAY BACK. girl i totally get it about the quarter life crisis thing. going back to college was a crazy huge change for me, and now that i'm doing grad school im kind of wondering the same thing--where do i go from here, what do i want to do long term, etc. im sure work will pick up soon! like you said, you've only technically been at it for like two weeks because of COVID!! dont get discouraged! oh man i am sending you SO MANY GOOD VIBES BEAMS!!! ooohhhh man you're making me so excited for my GTN reread (crying emoji) it's so hardcore!!! omg i love your bookmark... so cute. OOH CONGRATS ON THE JOB OFFER!!!! OH NO GIRL YOU GOT TO THE END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! welcome to pain and hell. >:3c it's funny you bring that up about the love hypothesis because gideon the ninth was tamsyn muir's first non-fanfiction work, and she was pretty well known in the fandom for her fanfiction before she did her original stuff. i'm glad you're enjoying the love hypothesis! it's absolutely dumb as fuck and SO FUN. the ridiculous setup makes me think of classic romcom movies, haha. im glad your first job went well!! OHHH DEAD BY DAYLIGHT i feel like i could get into it but im TERRIBLE at games hahaha. ive spent so much time getting good at monster hunter that i'm too afraid to start a new game at a rock bottom skill level lol. omg your social life is so busy, haha. GREAT VLOG!!! these are always so fun. you're making me want to do one... on top of the midyear freakout tag lol. so many videos to make!! can't wait to see your next vlog!!!! <3 <3 <3

      Ahhh grad school! I'm super excited for you! Do you know what your focus is going to be? Also, mad props to you for continuing your education, both in going back to school after a break and for going on to grad school! After my undergrad I was so burned out on school, plus grad school is just a whole other beast, that I decided to just stop with my bachelors. Sending all the positive and good vibe beams right back at you!!!!!! Gideon destroyed me, and the Love Hypothesis was so wild lol. I vaguely remember hearing Tamsyn Muir was a big fan-fic writer. The nice thing about Dead by Daylight is that it's actually not terribly hard to learn (trust me, I'm super bad at games too haha). I've never played Monster Hunter, but there are a couple of Connor's friends that play it off and on and it looks like a lot of fun! lol my social life is actually virtually non-existent, the past couple of weeks have just been weird anomalies haha. Normally I'm a hermit. You should definitely vlog and do the midyear freakout tag! I would love to watch them!!!! <3 <3 <3

    VLOG! VLOG! VLOG! oh man new mexico is soooo beautiful. i never spent a lot of time in the cities when i was there, but i did camp out in the gila national forest and then spent some time in taos around the enchanted circle and went through white sands... and obvs spent some time in roswell (my trips through the southwest have been some of my favorite, athough it was mostly artsy and nature stuff so i kinda wish i could do more touristy museum stuff if i ever get to go back). OH MAN!! CONGRATS ON QUITTING YOUR JOB AND DOING EDITING AND WRITING!!! THAT'S SO FUCKING COOL!!! i don't know why but i thought you were in STEM, haha. oh man, i've always wanted to write--i used to be REALLY into fanfic but i just haven't had time or motivation the last couple of years to work on original stuff. IM ROOTING FOR YOU!!! omg trail misadventures, haha. ive ABSOLUTELY done that. when i climbed mt champlain in maine it was because of the same thing--missed the trailhead i was going to and then found a random parking spot and didn't even realize i was climbing champlain until we got back down, hahaha. YOO MASTER OF DJINN i want to read that after enjoying Ring Shout so much! oh noo! i hope connor's back has recovered by now. YIKES. THE FOLK ART MUSEUM LOOKS SO COOL!!! oh nooo here's where covid begins... im so sorry ): BACK TO THE OTHER VLOG SENDING LOVE I AM GLAD YOU HAVE RECOVERED FROM COVID!!!!!

      Your adventures in the southwest sound a lot what Connor and I are wanting to do more of! We love the museums and tourist-y stuff when exploring places, but the nature adventures what we want to try and do more of. Yep, formally educated in chemistry, and while I don't regret the degree at all, I would rather spend more of my life working with fiction and books in some way than working in a lab. IDK, it's a HUGE exploration time and basically quarter-life crisis, but hopefully I'll get something figured out lol. Or I'll realize this isn't actually what I want to do and instead I want to keep fiction and books as my hobby and go back to a lab. Which is okay too. lol accidental mountain climbing is wild. Luckily, all backs are fixed and COVID infections gone! Thank you for all of your support!!!

    oh noo covid!!! i'm so glad you seem to be feeling a little bit better! oh man i know you didnt like the historian but GOD IT SOUNDS SO COOL im so saaaaad. i feel like this could have been such an interesting book. what's funny is i just started "the terror" by dan simmons last night which is supposed to be a historical thriller/horror but it's over 700 pages, and about 175 pages in i can't decide whether i am having the same problems you describe with the historian. i wonder... if i end up liking it by the end, i wonder if i would vibe with the historian? or if i will think the terror is just TOO MUCH and come to hate it as much as you hate the historian . i totally get what you're saying about venus in the blind spot! i think part of the reason i liked it was because so many of them were "classics" id read before (lots of nostalgia factor or "ooh greatest hits" feelings, i think), but if you're interested in his longer works Uzumaki or Gyo are generally well-liked. i feel like i need to branch out more in reading horror manga myself tbh, because looking at my manga shelf i mostly comedy manga and an HP Lovecraft manga retelling. oh noo! i'm sorry you didn't like for the throne! i'm kind of bummed! i was thinking of picking up "for the wolf" but i dont know if it's worth it if the second book feels disappointing--i feel like i've been burned with duologies before and dont want a repeat of raybearer/redemptor. OH DUDE I TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT SEANAN MCGUIRE AND ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS. i had the EXACT same complaints with the romance in "into the drowning deep". she's so good at action and mayhem, but not romantic dynamics, i think. oh man, i've only heard good(?) things about know my name, but i don't know if i could do it. it's something i want to read, but it DEFINITELY sounds like something you have to be in the right mindset to read. OOH I ADDED THAT TO MY TBR AFTER THAT LAST VIDEO. can't wait to get fucked up by weird obscure german horror. 😭 OH NOOO i added fortuna sworn to my kindle... noooooooo... OH ALL'S WELL!! someday i'll finish this book, i just couldn't get past those first fifty pages because it was just TOO real. it sounds like the exact kind of book that could be a favorite of all time, but... not today. ooh another babel book! okay, okay, you've convinced me. i am DEFINITELY picking this up this fall. GREAT VIDEO AGAIN AND IM SO GLAD YOURE OUT OF YOUR READING SLUMP! i gotta say, i had a rough june/july for reading as well (lots of low ratings). maybe this summer was just... cursed? SENDING LOVE CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT VIDEO! <3 i will continue moving through your backlog as the week goes on (:

      Thank you, I'm very happy I'm feeling better too haha. Ahh I was super sad about The Historian tbh. But I feel like if you end up liking the really slow pace of The Terror, you would probably have better luck with The Historian than me? I agree, I've heard generally good things about Uzumaki and Gyo, so maybe one day I'll pick one of them up. I will say, I liked For the Throne better than Redemptor in terms of the whole second-book-in-a-duology thing, but I don't blame you for being hesitant about picking up For the Wolf now. I definitely think that you need to be in a good place to pick up Know My Name, especially if sexual assault is a particularly difficult subject for you. But it's incredible. I'm super interested in your thoughts on Your House is on Fire, Your Children All Gone. I still think Fortuna Sworn is worth checking out! I honestly wonder if a big part of the reason why I wasn't vibing with Beautiful Nightmares is because I was so sick and was just trying to push through a book in order to do SOMETHING lol. I honestly can only imagine how difficult reading All's Well would be for something that actually lives with chronic pain, because even though I don't know what it's like, I feel like Awad portrayed it so well. Just the pure misery was so clear. I hope one day you get to read it, though! Ahhh I hope you end up liking Senlin Ascends!!! Here's hoping we both have better reading months this month!! <3 <3 <3

    omg i never did one of these this year, i might have to retroactively make one, haha. completely forgot! man youre making me want to reread middlegame with all of these videos. maybe ill put it on my 2023 reread tbr? ooh thats SUCH a good pitch for the senlin ascends series. youre SELLING me on this. ooh ive got the city of dusk on my shelf (i think we both have the adult fairyloot edition??) and i keep forgetting that i own it. maybe i'll pick it up in the fall? OOH BABEL!! i am very curious to see how this book turns out because i have a LOT of thoughts about dark academia in general. i've been thinking about making a video about it but want to wait until i read Babel in case i want to talk about that in whatever video i make on the subject, haha. OH MAN i read the ACOTAR series last month (long story) and i could not stop thinking about your house of sky and breath 8 sex scenes comment (from your original wrapup with it) when i was reading a court of silver flames. i had been counting the sex scenes to see how it compared because most of the rest of the acotar only had one to three in each book, but there were MORE THAN A DOZEN in a court of silver flames. SJM heard people calling her books fairy porn and was just like "you know what, fine" with her 2021/2022 releases. YESSS!!! excellent choices for 7 and 9, haha. jane lawrence was SUCH an amazing character, and i totally agree. it's rare to see such consistent characterization while still maintaining a sense of real growth and progression throughout the story. DELIGHTFUL. ooh number 13 is an attack, haha. YES VESPERTINE!! great video as always!! it's kind of funny working backwards through your videos because i know you did end up enjoying gideon the ninth but i stilled started to type "omg i hope you enjoy it!!!" before i realized you talked about it in a more recent video. 😅 i know it's jumping WAY backwards but i'm looking forward to your nonfiction tbr video!! i was JUST thinking today i need to look up more nonfictions since i dont have any more on my physical tbr this year.

    • @pagesandprose
      @pagesandprose 2 роки тому

      You should definitely do one! Especially because you read waaay faster than me, so you have so many books to choose from for these questions and I think that makes it even more fun! Yes Middlegame and Senlin Ascends!!!! Yup my City of Dusk is the adult fairyloot edition! I'm so excited about Babel, and I would love to listen to you discuss the dark academia genre. I do think it'd be a good idea to wait, though, because if I understand correctly, I think Babel is a dark academia (obviously) but also dissects the genre at the same time? So it would be cool for you to talk about that in your video too. A DOZEN!!!! That's absolutely insane. Yeah I don't mind smutty scenes, like if there's a handful, that's no problem. But eight and a dozen is bonkers and unnecessary lol. I'm super interested in hearing your thoughts on the ACOTAR series in your wrap up video. I have a friend that really wants me to read it (she and I are reading the Crescent City books together as they come out) but I've been nervous about not liking them since it's the one series of Maas's that's never really piqued my interest. I finished Gideon the Ninth last night and I am SPEECHLESS. I cannot form coherent thoughts about it, and also my heart is dust. Hands down Gideon has my entire soul. Verspertineeee ahhh I don't know why I'm so scared to pick it up lol. I need to get back on my plan to read/listen to one nonfiction per month, because I definitely didn't do that in July haha. Also, you warm my heart going back and watching all these videos <3 <3 <3

    yooooo here we go!!! i love these!!! youre making me excited for a closed and common orbit right off the bat, hahaha. okay now i HAVE to read senlin ascends and this series! ooh interesting about bad feminist. i studied a bunch of roxane gay's stuff for concentration/minor and her work definitely feels a little bit aged, even her newer stuff. OOH rest in peace, everything i never told you. i love that book i actually kind of agree? i dont know if i would have remembered it that much/enjoyed it as much if i hadn't read it for two different classes and DRILLED it into my brain lol. oh yikes i have juniper and thorn on my shelf I really hope i like it (crying emoji). i love what you said about once there were wolves and i TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE ENDING. so much. oh maaan i was already on the fence about seasonal fears and i think i'm probably going to give this one a miss--middlegame was so self contained! i dont know if it even NEEDED a sequel. yes yes yes! the death of jane Lawrence!!!!! so good. and the luminous dead! And the twisted ones!! BONGO!!! okay ngl i'm kind of intrigued by the honjin murders the more i think about it, haha. OH WOW i've never heard of the last one before and i am SOOO interested. GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS! i think "it's not you it's me" is probably a higher tier than "its not me its you" just because the lower tiers seem like youre less and less likely to recommend the books, and you might be MORE likely to recommend something from "its not you its me", if that makes sense? :D see you next video!!

    • @pagesandprose
      @pagesandprose 2 роки тому

      Oh my gosh I'm so excited if you end up picking up Senlin Ascends! Even if you end up on the fence after reading the first book, I recommend pushing through to the second one. Yeah I feel bad about not really digging Bad Feminist because I think Roxanne Gay has a lot of good things to say, I just think the collection needed to be structured better? It's the only thing I've read by her, but your comment about her stuff being aged is really interesting. I think I know what you mean just from Bad Feminist, though. I was actually really sad about putting Everything I Never Told You so low because I did really love the experience of reading it while it was happening. It just didn't want to stick with me at all. I honestly think you will like Juniper and Thorn, I think it was definitely a me issue. If you go in to it realizing it's not going to be a big monster hunt thing (which is what I was mistakenly expecting), then I think you'll have a better experience with it. Honestly yes, skip Seasonal Fears. I like what McGuire is trying to do with the alchemical universe, but it just didn't work with this second book compared to Middlegame. If you are in the mood for an old-school vibe murder mystery, I think Honjin Murders is worth picking up. The writing is dry, but I really think that's because it's a translated work. I need to continue checking out the other books in the series. I think Your House is on Fire, Your Children All Gone is a type of horror you would vibe with. The writing style is very detached and clinical, but I think it weirdly adds to the story tbh. And you make a very good point about putting the "it's not you it's me category" higher up, I didn't think of it that way. Thanks for watching!!!!!

OOOOH i am soooo interested in tripping arcadia! i can't wait to hear your thoughts! i am a little apprehensive about the sea of tranquility because i could not get into the glass hotel, but the premise sounds super intriguing. a dilemma. i've never heard of a forgery of roses before but it sounds so interesting??? haha i hope you enjoy the love hypothesis! it's one of the few contemporary romances that i really enjoyed, but tbh i think that's because it's 99% fanfiction tropes and writing. YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GIDEON THE NINTH!!!! god i hope you like it. tamsyn muir owns meeeeee. omg i'm obsessed with your 5d upside down chess reasoning for jawbone (also i cant WAIT to hear your thoughts--that one sounds like SO MUCH and i want to read it so bad, haha). Ahh hello! I hope you've been doing well! And thank you for the welcome back < 3 <3 I think this is the first year this group is doing the readathon, so it's not nearly as big as like Polarathon and the Magical Readathon that I think are also happening this month. I actually haven't read anything by Emily St. John Mandel before, and I know her books aren't direct sequels but kind of loosely connected, so I'm hoping I don't need to know anything about The Glass Hotel or Station Eleven to enjoy this one. I'm nervous because it sounds like a complicated plot and the book is sooo short. But we will see! I'm also nervous about A Forgery of Roses since it's YA and I haven't had a lot of luck with my enjoyment of YA lately, but I'm hoping since I'm going into it with very little expectations that it will surprise me haha. I'm about halfway through Gideon the Ninth and my god Gideon has my whole heart. I love her so much!!! I was having a hard time getting into the book for the first hundred pages or so, because objectively I could tell the writing was really good but my brain was just not clicking with it at all. But now that my brain is properly working, I am having a lot of fun with it! I'm reaaallllyyy hoping Jawbone lives up to the hype that I've built in my head haha. AND I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE ENJOYING GIDEON THE NINTH!! i was the same way when i started, and i'm DEFINITELY planning on a reread before nona the ninth comes out because i feel like i missed soooo much worldbuilding because my brain just couldn't handle it. 😭
