Great technique - something I could maybe do on depron to give it strength - I'll try for my small depron sheet wings.

Can you use an oil base polyurethane on fibreglass to cover XPS foam ? Does it works? As the water base polycrylic ??

good job young man, but...I agree with another viewer that you should "wet glass" your foam, cover that foam with a light coat of Minwax, then lay the glass over the wet foam for excellent adhesion, then wet coat the top again, squeege off and away you go. You might want to try EZE Kote by Deluxe Materials, it also is a bit better as it is a laminating resin and water based. There are a few more adhesives in it above Minwax, dont get me wrong, you are doing a great job, this is just another way to get great results, been doing this for years and old-school 2 part resins are a royal PIA. water based is awesome. Keep up the great work!

I’ve had a horrible time trying to find 1/2 oz glass

I use 1.5oz on all my projects. It's cheaper and easier to find. Most aim for 3/4 Oz but overall the added weight is negligible

    Would this work on styrofoam

If the water-based poly does not disolve it (and I doubt it would), this should work with styrofoam. Try on scrap to be sure.

Fantastic video. Been using this technique for 20 years and its still my favorite. One suggestion that you might appreciate.... I lightly mist coat my parts with 3m spray adhesive before laying the glass down. Helps to avoid stubborn wrinkles that can pop up when a large part gets too wet from the wbpu.

Good luck with the build, it looks a worthy monster! One point, on a WW1 rotary, the whole engine spins with the prop! : )

Very cool, love it! How will you attach bottom wing? Need box for landing gear too? Are you using 1/4 scale drawing?

Love your triplane! I've always loved ww1 planes and wonder why more builder don't make them. 13 squadron designed a lovely Albatros. But no word of release. I want D7 with printed detail. Great job on this and thank you for sharing!also like how you did the wings, great design!

I have a very old 1/4 scale J3 Cub that i'm going to re-cover with Sig Koveral. It seems like this Minwax stuff might be good for filling and sealing the weave as an alternative to dope

And also guys with printable plans like flite test instead of taping or gluing to foam tape all the pieces of the plans together then cut about 1 inch away from the outer lines then spray glue to poster board and cut out rest of the template and now you gotta template that you can save in a bim with a collection. Of reusable templates and you can trace every line on to foam board with pen or pencil. For holes and openings I make dots kf it's really small but for the slots for parts tabs and stuff just cut them put so you can trace it in and just mark your lines with a dot on each side of lines then use ruler when done tracing to complete the lines best way to male flite test planes and keep your templates for years. It's very simple to do just cut ppster board with the latest glued to it just like you would on the foam so you can trace every part exactly
