    I didn't realize that even the new AC compressor has so loud noise - and that's normal for it? I've being kind of worried for mine, it has that ... well ... "compressor" noise. Which one can hear when standing next to the passenger front fender.

    • @How2Helen
      @How2Helen 22 дні тому

      Hello. After filling up the AC system with the correct amount of refrigerant, the sound goes away. You don't even hear it running. The compressor needs the correct "load". With less load, the compressor will run faster, causing the metal noise. Please add refrigerant in your system before the compressor goes bonkers. Once it is almost full, you will hear the noise disappear. Let us know how it goes. Thank you for asking! - Rjeff H2H

    FYI metric bolts are classed by thread size not head size, so bottom bolt not 18mm its either 10 or 12 hard to say from the video. Same with the top bolt.

    • @How2Helen
      @How2Helen 29 днів тому

      Hello. Yes you are right that they are classified by thread pitch/size and not head size. However, if I use that measurement, how will I inform the viewers what socket size to use? if I say, M10, there is no M10 socket size in the tool set. Thread size will not give you the information on what socket to use. So I have to resort to using the measurement of the head size to match the equivalent socket size to use. Anyway, I hope that it is ok with you that I used the head measurement to match the socket. Thank you for watching! - Rjeff H2H

    Hey Can you let me know if all is still working fine for you and if it didnt give you any more errors or troubles because all you did was replacing the compressor right? The garage I called today they mentioned that the condensor also needs to be replaced when I replace the compressor any thoughts on this . as I watched your video and you didnt touch the condensor. Thanks for making this video.

    • @How2Helen
      @How2Helen 29 днів тому

      Hello. Yes, the compressor seems to be holding up. Surprisingly, once the compressor was working, some of the random code is gone, particularly the code that will cause the vehicle not to pass inspection (See the first video I had for the i8 for reference). The i8 seemed to have the compressor replaced recently before it failed again, and I would assume they have replaced the condenser as well. If they did not replace it, then, hopefully they at least inspected it and deemed it was still ok. That is why I did not replace the condenser. I am planning on making a video and have more details regarding the replaced compressor and other details about the repair. I am just making sure the new compressor holds up more than 6 months. Hopefully, it will have most of the answers you are seeking. If you have more questions, please pm us on Facebook, and will be happy to answer your questions. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you for this video! I just bought a 2016 i8 that has this same code and issue, so I’m going to do the same repair. Are the shifter lights from the replacement board yellow instead of the normal green, or do they just look like that in the video?

    • @How2Helen
      @How2Helen Місяць тому

      Hello. The LEDs on the circuitboard are all green. It was the translucent inserts on the shifter knob that make them a bit "Yellowish" Be careful taking out the shifter faceplate, that is the hardest part of the process. Thank you for watching! - Rjeff H2H

I also ordered the OEM BMW carbon fiber interior trim kit (p/n 51-95-2-412-960) that comes with a carbon fiber shifter faceplate + new front plate and park button, so I won’t have to be as careful in preserving the original ones, other than for keeping them as backups 🙂

    To be honest. I got really annoyed with the zip tie and the damn tape that was wrapped around the housing and i just brute forced the housing out with a long prying tool....it worked haha- thank goodness i didnt break any wirings. Make sure yall activate the microswitch in the trunk or else the motor will not operate. Thank you for the video! showing me clearly where to cut for the wiring to go inside the trunk. All of the "complete" new motors do not have the circular piece in it (with the small circular 8 holes piece ). Can it be removed from old unit and put in new motor housing? OR did yours have that piece. Thanks

      Hello. Sorry for the delayed reply. I have to check first. Anyway, I had the whole roof motor assembly kit, not just the motor. So I had everything I needed. But yes you can move the pinion gear from the old motor to the new motor. Just be careful in transferring it, and make sure the orientation, along with the spring is correct. Hope that helps. Hello. As the title states, it is an alternative repair. Some Porsche owners are on a budget and does not want to pay $500 or up for a defect direct from the factory. I think your anger is mis directed as this issue is lack of quality control from Porsche, I am only providing a creative solution. If you do not prefer the suggested repair, that is fine. But no need not be disrespectful on the comments Thank you for watching! -Rjeff H2H

      @@How2Helen come again…. The headliner comes out in under 20 minutes. Glue costs a couple of dollars and 25 dollars for the material, reupholstering it is the way to go. There is never a need to use screws in your car roof!! But no anger my friend, just sheer amazement! This won’t end well. The glue deteriorates due to the early generations holding humidity after being switched off (this is why the rear window mists up after use on spring mornings). This “repair” will cost you more in the long run. But each to their own. 🫡

    • @How2Helen

      Everyone knows removing the headliner is not as easy as you make it sound. Not everyone has the capacity/resource/space to do that. This repair has been done more than 2 years ago, and it is still holding up fine At the end of the day, it is just a car with a falling headliner, and I just offered an alternative simple solution.

Unbolt the sun visors, pull out the Center light, pull around the edges of the trim around the liner until you hear them pop out, pull from the windscreen end down (gently), pull it out from the sides and give it a good tug and it’s out. I’m not sure what the problem is?
