Return From Missouri Star Quilt Company Retreat MSQC. Check out what I bought while I was there.
I just returned from a mini retreat at MSQC. It was amazing. I just received everything I bought there today and want to share it with you. Please check out my Facebook and Instagram for photos of the quilts I finished while I was there.
If you want to plan a trip, I would recommend going here for a great time. We sewed a lot and shopped a lot and we laughed a lot more! Everything about Hamilton was perfect. We will be going back again and again.
Missouri Star Quilt Company will always be one of the best trips I’ve taken.

Aren’t the Kingart tempera . That’s like gouache and not blend able ( smudging) type media . They are paint !
You say the jump rings could be smaller (than the ones you show in your hand) But What Size Are You Showing/Using ?
FYI - You have probably discovered this by now, but you can rub Distress Glaze over you distress coloring media in order to preserve it. You can also use Dorland's Wax Medium by Jacquard, which comes in a much larger jar. You can use them over other things also. Great video!
Where to you sell your craft in the Tampa area? What’s the name of the location?
Hi! I do a lot of local markets in the fall but you can find some of my items currently at The Crafted Butterfly in Plant City. If you follow me on Facebook and/or Instagram, I always post when where I will be. It's just too hot in the summer for me so I only do fall markets. Hope to see you out there!
@@daniellescraftdiary awesome! Thanks for replying! I will follow you on Instagram and FB! I also live in Tampa and will say “hi” if I see you in any of the markets during Fall/Spring. I agree, it’s too HOT right now in Florida. 🌻
Curious as to why you just did not use the cut end of the leather as you end for the zipper tab where you sew it to the zipper. Folding it over really adds to the thickness on such a tiny bag . There is no chance of fraying or tearing from the leather .
@@heleneikerenkotter2950 that’s definitely an option but I don’t like the look of the white core of the vinyl which is visible at certain angles. If that doesn’t bother you, the raw edge is perfectly fine. The bulk is really minimal and since I have an industrial machine, it’s not a challenge for my machine. If I were using a domestic machine I would probably not fold it over. Also, the embroidery design does have you fold over to tack down so the bulk doesn’t seem to be a problem with this design.
@@daniellescraftdiary I understand that there is a polish that is available to finish the sides of leather and vinyl. I am thinking that I saw it demonstrated on Sally Tomato. If you have a machine that can handle that thickness that is great . The majority of home sewers do not so it might be beneficial to mention alternate ways to sew a project for those who do not have the luxury of an industrial machine. . Today’s sewers have access to machines that were once unavailable to us early sewers. It is frustrating to be limited in what machines can handle in thickness . Thank you for your answer
@@heleneikerenkotter2950 I've seen people use Angela, I believe its called, for edge coating. There's a lot of work with multi coats and sanding from what I've read but people seem to be happy with the results. If your domestic sewing machine doesn't like multiple layers, you can always make the bag completely on the embroidery machine. I know people who embroider and don't even own a sewing machine. For many of us who also sew, we find the stopping and starting of the embroidery machine very time consuming when we can just sew them up on the machine. There are several designers I purchase from who design the pattern for the embroidery machine like you suggested so it's just a preference from the designer and then the sewist if finishing on the machine. I'd love to know how you make out if you decide to give poo bags a try! If at any time it feels too thick for your machine, don't be afraid to hand crank over those thicker areas. Happy Stitching!
Love your haul video. I’d love to do the same with some of my quilty friends. Do you mind sharing the name of where you stayed? Thanks!
We stayed right at MSQC. Just give them a call and tell them you want to book the mini retreat! I hope you love it!
Kansas troubles always catches my eye also
love your showing! i also purchased the binders. i didn’t want to put what several said they were so i cut up the dividers up and made my own labels for the binders. and they match. :) i really didn’t need three dividers for 10 quilt patterns.
Got a lot of bargains. Must have been fun.
Great retreat haul! I think you enjoyed your stay. Until next time!
Put me on the list for next retreat.
I wish they would get the non-skid on the back rulers, you would love them. No gypsy holders needed they dont’ slide on the fabric
Where do you live? And I would like to go to a MSQ retreat and maybe a few friends. How do we find out when they will be held and how would we go about getting it together? Enjoyed your video here.
Loved your recap, would like to see EPP. I want to get started with that.
That's a great idea to visit a quilt store in each state and make that state block with the corresponding fabric. Did they let you use a 20% or 25% off code of your entire purchase like you can when ordering on-line? Where did everyone travel from since you mentioned flying? I've not been but live about 3 hours away - which would be 6 or so travel time. I live in Springfield, IL which is in between St. Louis and Chicago.
Misty is her son's wife
Love your review! I subscribed to your channel. I haven’t been to MSQC, but I started over 10 years ago quilting under Jenny’s tutorials. So glad I did too.
Question: you flew so how did you sew? Take machines? Borrow??
Every time you said what your favorite things are, I would almost say out loud, me too. The Mercantile store is my favorite and Kansas Troubles is a top favorite along with Lori Holt. And, I do spend more time organizing than actually sewing, and I store my fabric the same as you do. What a joy to find you. Don't know how I've missed you before. And....I do just about every craft also. Paper crafting is my next biggest love, cross stitching, embroidery, knitting, crochet. I use to toll paint in the 80's, big time. I'm just a generation older, but we could be soul sisters. Lol Thanks for showing your haul, it was fun. I'd like to find out more about the mini retreat. I like doing at my own leisure.
That's how I find my newest favorite thing is by hearing about someone else's favorite thing HA HA HA! Sharing is caring ;) I can't stay still so I'm guessing you are the same way. I just go from one craft to the next, often within the same day. It sure does make organizing a challenge sometimes but I love it. I am also a big paper crafter and go to a lot of scrapbook crops and retreats. Those are a lot of fun too! Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to watch and comment.
I just got on to say that Misty is a daughter inlaw, and I saw a message with the same message. Well now she knows. 😊
Yep, now I know. I'm sure many more people will also tell me. I hope you found something enjoyable in the video. Thanks for watching.
I went from Arizona to MSQC and it was a bit of a letdown. Hardly anyone around so I asked a cashier at one of the stores if there were any classes or anything happening. She said “Well Jenny’s not around if that’s what you mean”. No one seemed overly friendly. If you want to visit the town’s quilt museum, check the hours, it was closed when I went. No desire to ever go again.
I'm so sorry you had that experience! Did you go in a winter month? It was very quiet while we were there but we preferred it that way. I do believe if you participate in one of their hosted retreats they keep you pretty busy but I can see how not having anything on the schedule could be a let down also. I hope you were still able to get some goodies to take home with you. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
@@daniellescraftdiary I went in July and I think you’re right, it should be during a retreat!
Wow! That’s great. I wish I had the extra money right now. I am glad you had so much fun! God bless you
I hope you will get there one day but until you do, keep working on those projects and enjoying the time to create. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
This sounds amazing ❤
It was a blast! A great refresher for sure. The only problem is that now I want to make ALL of the things ha! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
We went a couple weeks ago. It’s such a fun place to visit.
What was your favorite item you took home with you? I can't wait to go again. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@daniellescraftdiary I got several pieces of fabric. I loved the bags and collected them as if they were priceless. 🤣 I I don’t know how I’ve not discovered you sooner but so happy you popped up. Our granddaughter drove us. It was 4 generations taking a day trip which made it so special for us. Our great grandson is 7 and he and hubby liked the man-cave.
Awesome purchases and happy to hear you had so much fun and plan to return to Hamilton! I have been many times (only 4 hours drive for me)! And I have often seen Jenny too!
That's awesome! My husband travels to KC for work often so I may just tag along with him and take a ride up. I have no business going anytime soon after everything I just bought LOL! They said Jenny was preparing to leave for the UK so we missed her. Hopefully next time! Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
I luv luv luv MSQC! Really like your video and I subscribed and liked!! Not been to Msqc.. I live in Arizona. Drove past it once ( on my way to Wisconsin, my hometown) but couldn't convince my grand daughter to stop.... She was bored 🥱! Shouldn't have listened to her... Brat! Hope to get there yet! But I'm 68 and haven't had the opportunity yet. We'll see..... Will watch your UTube!
It's never too late. If you can get three friends to go along, you'll have a blast. The airport is very easy to navigate yourself and they have curbside bag checks. One of the friends I went with came from Arizon. There is a direct flight from Phoenix to Kansas City. I hope you get the opportunity to go one day! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
I am so happy you had a great time… I would love to see some of your paper piecing. I have fallen down that rabbit whole lately and I love everything about it…. ❤️
I was doing some today because I needed something mindless to keep my hands busy. I will get a video up soon. Thanks for watching!
I just moved to Missouri and the best thing about my move is that I am only 20 miles from Hamilton! Of course, my daughter and I had to go. She had purchased a gift certificate for me, so I got to spend that. Plans are to go back as often as I can...I want to run into Jenni and the "gang".
How lucky! It is a beautiful state. The fields were purple when I was there. What a beautiful way to welcome in Spring! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
I love this so much. It’s on my bucket list. I’ll go one day but I’m 70 so I must go soon. I’m a handicapped person so I’ll look into that before I go.
Loved your video…a trip there already on my bucket list 💕👩🏻🎨🐑
You're going to love it! Please report back once you get there and let me know what you thought of it. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
I love your video and I can believe you had a terrific stay. I’ve been to Hamilton and would ❤ to return soon!
Please tell me what your favorite part was. Mercantile had to have been my favorite store. There was just some energy in the air there... Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
A group of us go every July to a Christmas in July theme retreat in Hamilton. It is so fun and relaxing and you can’t beat the price. For future reference, they will order from the warehouse if something is out of stock. It comes a couple hours later but it is so nice.
Yes!!! We did order from the warehouse a few times. It was fantastic. Everyone there was so nice. I had no idea there was a Christmas in July retreat. How busy was the town? It was so quiet while we were there because it was still cold. I'm going to have to put it on my list of retreats to check out. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
Such fun!! Would love to go do that!!❤
It's really doable. The airport is easy to navigate, the driver picked me up and dropped me off curbside. It really could not have been easier. Grab a few friends and have your own retreat or go alone to one of theirs and leave with new friends. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
I bought the nested set you have and 2 previous sets. They are all sew cute... now I have to figure out what to store in them. Missouri Star has sew many nice things online. Their Daily deal is sew fun each night at midnight.
It is! It is so addicting. Do you have the set with quilt blocks? I think they were blue and yellow? We saw that set but it wasn't there for long. What do the others look like? I didn't realize they had a third. Maybe this is going to be a continuous item they change. That would be great! I actually need a new headphone case for my over the ear headphones I take on the plane and I think the large one would be perfect for them. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
Oh. My. Gosh... I love love love LOVE Lori Holt fabrics. Like I have a real problem lol. Love her stuff you got!
I hope you see this comment in time... Some of her fabric is 25% off today at MSQC online! I ordered some at 1am when I let the dog out ( thanks boy ;) and when I went back this morning to get a better look, a lot was sold out. I hope you can grab some! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
I've been toying with the idea of getting back into embroidery but have sew many quilts to make. How much was that cloth with the embroidery pattern on it?
The thing that I like about embroidery and cross stitch is that they are portable so I don't feel like I take away from my quilting time. When my kids were young I sat at practices and worked on cross stitch. Now that they are grown, I do it when we watch a movie or when traveling. I keep one in my car at all times if I'm ever stuck waiting ( oil change, picking up curbside orders, etc ) . I used to get a lot more hand work done when they were you but very little quilting. Now it's the opposite! The cloth was about $12 I believe which I thought was very reasonable considering how many are on there. I also purchased the pearl cottons for $3ish each and a hoop and needle. You can use DMC to really cute cost and a wood frame or Q snaps. All in, it was about $60 but if I waited until I got home and used my stash, I only would have paid for the cloth. If you use DMC you could probably get everything for $25. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
Going to Missouri Star is on my bucket list! I wish I had your budget🤣 I’m retired now……. So enjoyed your haul.👍🏻
I call this my "retirement" budget because when we are retired, I won't be able to spend like that so I'm just stocking up now LOL! I think my husband bought that explanation HA HA HA! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
How fun!!! I can’t wait to do that one day
Please come back and let me know how much you loved it! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
Oh sounds like a lot of fun. Do you have to make reservations a year ahead? I like all your things. I’m going to a retreat next week. Did you have everything cut before you went or did you cut there. I would like to stay with no schedule and no more added projects just so I can finish a few things. I love organizing and find I also do more organizing than sewing too!-Martha
My friend handled all of it but it was not a year ahead. Maybe 6 months prior but that was just when she scheduled, not because of their lack of availability. They said it's very slow in the cold months so I would shoot for those. You don't have to walk far to get to anything so you're only cold for a few minutes. I did not have everything cut on my projects but I had them started already. Two of my friends are working on the same quilt ( Shine On by Bonnie and Camille) and they each cut all of their blocks before we got there. I think it just depends on if you can cut and talk at the same time haha! It will lighten your load too if you are only bringing fabric that needs to be sewn. Organizing might be more of a hobby than quilting for me some days. Stay tuned, I'm going to have a video of how I just reorganized my fabric! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
Did your apartment have an area to cut? To sew?
Yes! There were two cutting tables with mats, rulers and rotary cutters. I would suggest bringing your own blades just be sure you are getting nice cuts. There were four tables to sew on. We turned two of the tables to the side so no one had their back facing anyone and it was perfect. There was plenty of space for four people at the same time. There were only a few times someone had to wait to cut and even then it was only for a moment. There were also two ironing boards and several padded TV stands to keep next to you for use with the mini iron. I don't think anyone ever waited for an iron. I'll post some pictured on my Facebook and IG so you can see. @DaniellesCraftDiary Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
MSQC is fun for sure. I remember when the full price for charm packs was $5.50!!!!
We were just talking about this today. Now when they are $10 people think its a sale. I do love my precuts because they really save time but they can add up very quickly at the register. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
Love all your stuff got from Missouri Star. Someday I’ll go there…❤️
You won't regret it. It was truly awesome. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
I have so much civil war fabrics, and especially Kansan Troubles, the quilts are always over the top and never go out of style. I like some of Lori Holt and Tula. You need more room.
I know! My husband tells me it doesn't matter what size room I have, I'll fill it up HA HA HA! He's not wrong. I could just look at the fabric all day. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
Lovely video

Misty is not Jennys daughter. She is married to Jacob, Jenny's son.
I knew she wasn't her daughter but never knew her son's name. Love that name.. Jacob. One of my favorite people in the Bible. But I thought for a long time she was her daughter as well so I get where she thought that.
Thanks for the correction. I hope you found something enjoyable in the video.
Great recap of your trip!! My friend is going soon and I’ve sent her your video!! I’d want stay right there too if I can ever go!!
She sure looks like family!!!
What mm do you use for your appliqué to make it into a SVG. I’m using Embrillance as my embroidery software.
Gelatos might not be as creamy as the Kingart (some of them) but they blend a lot better, and for me that’s very important
I have been using the eye stainless steel pins to do my charms BUT thier to short to make eye.yet you cuts yours quite short.also as i try to turn to make an eye stanless steel ones snap off.what ones are you using for charms.i can only put one bead on mine.and pin is to short to use the looper dooper
Thanks for sharing. I’m new to making the poo bags & have tried making them completely in the hoop and do t really like that method. This helps a great deal.
