A Year Off-Grid: My Journey and What I've Learned
Brilliant!
Underrated series and channel. I'm looking to do something similar, either a half track more or less like this, or a remote controlled tank.
Thanks for the comment! A remote controlled tank would be pretty amazing! You should definitely do something.
Thx for the video. My father would be asking why not use a spacer for uniformity.
Your father is a smart man! I didn’t have anything lying around to use as a spacer so I just eyed it. Turned out pretty good. A spacer would have made it perfectly uniform.
Hi. Which rod can be used for Stainless steel?I broight a same one. Thanks.
I have never welded stainless before but from what I can find they say to use 7018 3/32” rod
What kind of motor is that?
It’s a 125cc 4 stroke 3 speed from an overseas kids atv. You can pick them up cheap used.
What if the long side as come unhooked from another board
Is there a specific ratio for water to baking soda that should be followed?
It’s about 1/3 cup of washing soda( I used baking soda and it worked fine) for each 5 gallons of water.
@@NorthernChris1 nice, thanks
Where are you guys located that you only need a 6inch deep outer perimeter? In Southern Ontario I was told 12 x 12 perimeter for a monolithic slab.
We are south of Algonquin park. This was in the drawings that we have, it’s a 24’x24’ garage with one 16’ garage with standard wall heights and one course of cinder block around the perimeter.
haunch? Do you mean footers?
Yes, the footers. Basically the haunch is the lower portion. The haunch assembly includes a concrete haunch having an upper portion, a center portion and a lower portion.
that is the regular color from the factory and i drove one just like it with the same color but it had a roof on it to keep u dry
That makes sense, the roof would be helpful to have.
Hi , what size rod did you use?
The rods I used are 2.5mm (3/32”) alloy E6013
Thank you
@@NorthernChris1 👍👍
Now put it back together
I’ve been hunting for an old snow blower with tracks to do something similar great work
Thanks! Yes they are either hard to find or very expensive to buy.
Aren't you ✡️ supposed to know about how costs go up?
thank you!
💯💯💯💯💯💯
I just got one for free I have to go through it
They are great generators and work well. There is an electric plunger on the carb to regulate the fuel. Mine leaks so it will empty all the fuel into the carb. After I’m done with the generator I shut the main gas valve so it works the next time I go to use it.
No idea what a Red Robinson bit is! I have a kit but the bits are not labelled.
It’s the square one, it’s named after the inventor Peter Robertson.
I wouldn’t have ever used steel to seat the race, but not my wheel. Brass would’ve been the better option, but I’ve had to make do in a pinch too. 😂
You can also use a farm jack to lift it to level it
Yes, great point. I also have a farm jack I use to level containers
For step 7 (piece 13), would it be better to leave a bit of a gap at the back so water doesn’t sit there?
Yes that is a good idea. I find the water doesn’t pool there after rain, so I haven’t had any issues with drainage.
just came across your massey video! I jhave 3175 too! Nice machine man! Subbed your channel! That machine is in decent shape... had to rebuild MOST of mine: ua-cam.com/video/PvshiKWesJs/v-deo.html
Ive been looking through your work and it looks good ive been looking for someone to build a bmx frame and have had no luck im willing to pay and maybe youd even wanna turn it into a video i live in Southern washington lemme know if your tryna get in contact brotha🤙
hey @moseywright8199 thanks for the comment, I have never build a BMX frame before, what are you looking to have built?
@NorthernChris1 it's called a bmx cub its a bmx with either a 125cc dirtbike engine or a 125cc moped engine
@@NorthernChris1 ???
@@moseywright8199 I haven't heard that name for these bikes before. I think getting the bike to you would be quite expensive since I am in Canada
Great video. I would suggest at start of video you recommend sanding all pieces if you are going to paint or stain through final product. Also easier to assemble if you start the screws into countersink holes before assembling them. 18:43
Great tips, I found my pieces of wood to be well sanded right out of the box so no further sanding was required for me to paint/stain.

Great video. I would suggest at start of video you recommend sanding all pieces if you are going to paint or stain through final product.
Thank you. Video was very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Why would you paint the wood? Now they look like cheap plastic chairs!
At the time those colours matched the area and decor where they were located. A natural wood stain does look much better on these chairs.
I would prefer to stain the wood prior to assembling the chair. Do you foresee a problem with that?
I recommend using wood glue when screwing the chair together. Depending on the stain it could seal the grain so the glue doesn’t penetrate the wood. If you aren’t using glue I don’t see any problems.
Great video. Assembled one a week ago. The hardest part, I found, was adding the back legs. Probably should have done the lower screws first instead of the top ones.
Yes, after assembling the first one I learned a lot as well. The next one goes much smoother.
It looks like a surron
I bought one. The first day, it had a chipper knife come loose at full throttle, and it slammed into the flywheel housing, sending the machine cartwheeling across the yard. It was quite impressive to watch! It fractured the crankcase in 4 places! Tazz replaced it with a 900 series. It's just as weak as the first one. Anything above dry twigs and pinecone is a struggle. It's not worth the $500. Might make a fair go cart engine, though.
There's a bag for it also, and the bag sucks. The loops that hold it up ripped out in the first month
Yes, I agree it isn’t a great chipper for the price. You are lucky you didn’t get hurt! I ended up returning it.
@NorthernChris1 I literally had just turned around, and the thing went cartwheeling across the yard. I didn't even have time to move. I was left just standing there with a stick in my hand, stunned. 😆
@@dmacbain8326 I can picture it with you standing there with a stick in your hand and the machine cartwheeling away. Its one of those things if you didn't see it you might no believe it!
subbed because you said vacuum
Thanks! What else would I say?

Save on drills bits by applying a small dab of oil when drilling into metal, any kind of oil... Even cooking oil will work
Good to know! I buy drill bits in. I’ll and burn through them because they are cheap. I will start using oil
All showed negative to rusty part
Oh my buddy. I’m sorry but Please research this stuff before you end up hurting yourself. Everything you do you are learning I guess? So showing us what not to do? You aren’t getting anyone to watch like or anything. Whats a going on? Perhaps that tells you something? Why bother with video. And editing? Do it for you. And save time by leaving the camera or iPhone at home. I think the reason no one around is a you are kind of all over the place. No niche. No consistent subject Matter. And you have no experience in doing anything you are doing much less knowing anything about capturing it in video for utube. If you want these for your kiddos later on perhaps I can understand that. Make them private on utube. Unless you just like doing it. But capturing video takes the extra time and trouble for what? I’m at a loss here. Perhaps I’m wasting my time too. These are not all that entertaining either. I keep falling asleep. God bless.
Thankyou for your feedback. Some videos are better than others. It’s all a learning curve, do you think the top UA-camrs made great videos at the start? I agree about the niche and I am working on that. I see you made a motorized bike, you should check out my series on that which does have many views and likes. Not every video will be a success and that is how we grow. I appreciate your honesty and feedback. Check back in the future for more exciting videos.
Now put it back together with that tool. You can get it apart with your fingers on a little engine like that. Going back together is different
You are lost.
Vinegar does the same thing
Vinegar is acid and therefore corrosive. Don't know about electrolysis.
I will have to try that sometime!
@@NorthernChris1 through a lot of research I've found evaporust to be the absolute best for rust removal, just make sure it's free of grease first. You can even filter it and reuse it (I believe they recommend you do this). It however doesn't protect the metal for long so you can anodise it after if you wish to.
No it doesn't. Electrolysis converts the form of the iron oxide, but does not attack non-oxidised metal in any way. Vinegar eats the rust, and then it eats the metal underneath, and it eats the good metal faster significantly than it eats the rust. Leave a piece in the electrolysis bath too long, weeks even, and it will come out dimensionally stable. Leave it in vinegar too long (and you don't know how long is "too long") and it will come out pitted and significantly undersized. If you somehow need a purely chemical reaction, you want citric or phosphoric acid, both of which are chelating agents and do basically the same thing as electrolysis.
@@wibblywobblyidiotvision I had no idea Vinegar was so corrosive! thanks for the information.
The black is magnetite, a more stable form of iron oxide (Fe3O4). I had to find out.
That’s very interesting, I had no idea! Looks like we learned something new today. Thanks for sharing!
Great video! 😃👍
Thanks! It’s surprising how easy this is to do to get rust free parts
Got this chair and this video made it a breeze. Thanks! Love this chair, the support it amazing. Me and my husband fight over it
Thank you so much! That is amazing to hear! I agree it is a very comfortable chair!
How do you stop it from reopening
I find if you move all the planks over from the wall to the gap it tends to stay together instead of just moving one plank. Some people have had success using flooring glue.
@@NorthernChris1 I've closed mine at least 3 times so that's the solution I was going to try next.
How much was your motor?
I bought a broken ATV that the motor came out of, I bought the ATV for $150
Great help, have been thinking of buying this chair. Please do more how to assemble videos this was a huge helps. Thanks Southern Steve
Thanks for the kind words!
Cool video
Thanks!
@@NorthernChris1 you’re welcome. It was informative because it helped me fix my lawnmower.
I just bought one identical to yours. Where do you get a service manual or owner's manual? thank you
You can find a manual for free here the website has a ton of ads but it’s free. wacker-neuson.manymanuals.com/power-generators/gp-6600a/operators-manual-22323/5
How did you get a sprocket for it
The rear wheel came off a moped and the sprocket was the same tooth pitch as the motor
Oddly satisfying
