      Her emerald and yellow gold tennis necklace is likely custom, however brands such as Jennifer Meyer, Logan Hollowell and Kate Rose all make very similar ones!

    I thought the emerald pendant looks like the four leaf clover pendant I have seen a few players wearing. Is it Cartier?? Or Van Cleef? It's been bugging me for ages!

    • @WinstonGemsJewellery
      @WinstonGemsJewellery 4 дні тому

      I have seen her wear a malachite (dark green) Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra clover pendant in the past, which is a style a lot of other players wear. However, the pendants she's been wearing lately seem to be either the cushion-cut emerald or her evil eye necklace! I'll keep an eye out!

  • @zacharyares3837

    Hi Megan! I just watched all your videos, they are so good-- and super informative!! I had a question; I've been a fan of black star sapphires for a long time (especially ones with a golden yellow star in them) but I'm curious about why they seem to run the gamut on pricing. Some jewelers I buy them from will almost give them to me for free, whereas a similar sized one might be valued at $600-$1000 on some websites and other jewelers. Why do they seem to be so polarized in price? I've asked gemologists before whether black star sapphires are typically lab grown, so I'm just not sure why the price is so broad. Also-- on stones with asterism in general. Can all sapphires be cut into a star sapphire? Or does it require a particular inclusion to do so?

    • @WinstonGemsJewellery
      @WinstonGemsJewellery 6 днів тому

      Thank you so much! I'm also very fond of star sapphires! I will be covering them off in a video soon, but yes, it is very common for them to have a very wide range of prices. They can definitely be lab-grown and natural stones can also be glass-filled, but unfortunately this isn't always disclosed. There are also a lot of other value factors which can greatly affect their price: - how saturated and even the body colour is (is it a true black or more brown/grey) - how crisp and centred the star is and how nicely it rolls across the stone - how many rays does the star have - quality of cut (is the cabochon even, symmetrical, well-polished etc) Lastly, star sapphires are very rare because their stars are formed from parallel sets of rutile silk inclusions. When this is found, the sapphire will be cut as a cabochon so the star can be seen. Happy hunting! Thanks for your question and stay tuned!

    Great video! Is CZ going to hold up with proper care. 5A?

    • @WinstonGemsJewellery
      @WinstonGemsJewellery 10 днів тому

      Thank you! Yes, CZ can hold up very well! It's 8-8.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, which is great for daily wear. (As reference, topaz, emerald and tourmaline are all around 7-8 and sapphire is a 9.) All gems will show wear eventually, especially when worn everyday. With a little extra mindfulness, you can hopefully avoid scratches and facet abrasion for a long time.

    • @WinstonGemsJewellery
      @WinstonGemsJewellery 13 днів тому

      Yes, she has since really added to her emerald necklace stack!! Impressive. Aryna Sabalenka's new emerald tennis necklace is gorgeous--I would guess it's a custom piece around 14 inches, set in yellow gold and at least 12 total carats of round-cut emeralds. Jennifer Meyer, Logan Hollowell and Kate Rose all make similar ones!

    Is there a (general) rule as to which of the 3 groups of red garnets is the most valuable? can i assume that almandine are least valuable, then pyrope, then Rhodolite is most valuable ?

    • @WinstonGemsJewellery
      @WinstonGemsJewellery 15 днів тому

      Of course, there are always exceptions--but I think the order you listed is a good general rule of thumb, assuming each stone has the same weight and quality of cut, colour etc. Thank you for watching!

    Paraiba Tourmaline is unique. Sometimes people mistake minty Tourmalines for Paraiba because of its high saturation. But Paraiba is unique because it glows within when exposed to bright lights. I have two carats of greenish blue Paraiba I use for comparison.

    Got a question (apart from the topic at hand in this video)....Could you make a video that can help us to determine the "best" light source to assess color "grade" of colored stones? IMHO, diffused outdoor light, such as overcast skis (where you can not see the sun) or under a shade tree in full sun conditions...Lots of my stones when viewed under direct sun have great sparkle BUT i see too much dark areas in the overall stone.... I heard that AGL is developing an indoor light system to help standardize the many light options available...I assume it will be about 5500 kelvin?

    • @WinstonGemsJewellery
      @WinstonGemsJewellery 6 місяців тому

      Thank you for the suggestion! I agree, direct sunlight is not ideal for grading stones. Most gemologists and gemological labs work in dark conditions save for the specific light they are using. Most use fluorescent lightbulbs which are 5000-6000K and daylight equivalent, which you can also find online!

  • @superfluity-of-naughtiness777
    @superfluity-of-naughtiness777 6 місяців тому

    i have an untreated mozambique slightly purplish RED ruby, but like you said it does not have that super boosting chromium red stoplight pop in sunshine...Thanks for the great video...DO you think it is OK to refer to pigeon blood "color" and differentiating that from a pigeon blood "stone" (which would mean specific color AND untreated AND eye clean AND good cut) ?

    • @WinstonGemsJewellery
      @WinstonGemsJewellery 6 місяців тому

      In my opinion, it is always best for everyone to avoid generalized terms in order to avoid confusion! Instead, it's often easier to clarify a stone's hue, tone, saturation, clarity, source etc. specifically.

  • @superfluity-of-naughtiness777
    @superfluity-of-naughtiness777 7 місяців тому

    just discovered your high info videos about gemstones, hope your channel grows quickly! My question is about 2 cabachon opals i have in my collection...One is Ethiopian welo opal and a lightning ridge ( semi dark) opal... I live in Chicagoland and summers are high humidity, winters are low humidity... Do you think i should store them near a water source (such as a cup of water) in winter time? I intend to keep these forever and turn them over to family when i pass on.

    • @WinstonGemsJewellery
      @WinstonGemsJewellery 6 місяців тому

      Thank you! I would suggest storing them individually in 100% silk pouches, which will help maintain their humidity year round. Be sure to keep the pouches away from any direct light or heat sources.

    I don't think anyone should hold their breath waiting for the round shape diamond to go away, because I don't think it ever will and I mean round in general not just a solitaire setting. Every fancy shape diamond takes a turn trending as the oval has been right now and how the cushion was the hot fancy shape 10 years ago. However, the round always trends because it is a classic shape that has the most fire and brilliance compared to any fancy shape stone. The round is like the name Michael, never gets old and always on the baby boy list of names. Why would it go away though, if you think about it why would the shape with the most sparkle matched by no other shape stop selling?? I am happy to see that more people are starting to get settings that have more intricate details and craftsmanship and actually matches their personalities. I hate trends because everyone looks the same whether it looks good on them or not ex: fashion. It will be fun to look at someones ring that just got engaged and see something different most of the time. Right now, I just look and say it's pretty and walk away thinking - another solitaire, another halo, another pave' down the shank setting. Back in the 80's and 90's their was such a variety of different style settings that everyone except someone sporting a solitaire, had a different look to their ring and when you found out someone got engaged you couldn't wait to see what their ring looked like. I hope we return to those days. Don't get me wrong, I think the current styles are beautiful like the classic halo and ones I previously mentioned, I'm just tired of seeing nothing but them on everyone - too common.
