The National Party is letting David Seymour play them for fools. It's time for them to stand up and throw this dangerous and divisive Bill out of the House.

A short snippet from a Q&A session at University of Canterbury with MBA students. We were discussing evidence-based policy making and the responsibility of ministers to work co-operatively with apolitical government officials. The current government has been widely criticized for their lack of transparency, their unwillingness to follow official advice and of course, the personal connections/fr...

Its time to put the outdated treaty into the annals of history and move one as a single united people of New Zealand not as a divisive two race country.
Labour are appalling.. covid was the straw that broke the camels back.. lost all credibility since then..
Hi Mr Duncan Webb. Uh oh. Wow, it'd be great living in a brand new decent quality standard Kainga Ora home. That surely would lift a standard of living to take pride in and be proud of. I am grateful that as a parent who suffered exceptional circumstances, (not earthquake situation, nonetheless traumatic). This government helped me, and Im no longer homeless. Your government wanted me to live childless in a boarding house. Stop regulang people's lives by opinions alone, and impeding progress needed. Like many others, no doubt. My immediate neighbors and I live in high maintenance, pre dilapidated 1950's asbestos built homes. (Not weatherboard). Can you believe it? If you would like to lift your pr standard. I can help you ? That rip the bill stunt was a stale mate. (I mean, no offense to you). Outside a demolished funeral home ? Tikanga? KauOra?
Disgusting
Excellent treatment Duncan.
The Palestine Flag. Oh dear.
Thank you for your stance to uphold the treaty. Indigenous people make up 5% of the global population and protect 80% of the globes remaining biodiversity (World Economic Forum's report 2023). It's not just an identity and culture.. but also a responsibility.
Stop immigration then we don't need more houses do we?
Why
He thinks he can hoodwink people with these self-contradictory falsehoods about the Treaty Principles Bill and strained attempts to justify adherence to recently-invented, fake 'principles' of Te Tiriti that are not consistent with its wording or with the recorded speeches of rangatira at the time of signing and in the few decades thereafter.
Divided. Very true nasty little troll that guy. Thanks
Wow so good to hear some else talking truth. They have 3yrs in keep your foot on them.Everyone of you know what you need to do in 3yrs time.Winston peters is a turn coat.
Palestinian Flag, What a lefty
I would love a paragraph to copy and paste. I'm not to flash with words, colorful words maybe. But thank you for this
There are some great templates around, but I would recommend writing your own words. It doesn't have to be fancy, but it is really important it is original!
Webb ! Your a complete twit 👎
😂indecent paakeha are scared of losing the privaledged life they have accustomed themselves to at the expense of our Maaori sovereignty and our mana 😅
Good speech
Thanks. Good public information.
Thanks!
Thanks Duncan this is more coherent and most clear explanation on the bill I get it now because of your korero. Although my iwi and hapu did not sign and have always been unpro we had alot of losses with resources and deaths during the land war 😢 very sad my poor koroua and kuia were slaughtered nga mihi nui I'm defs back on track now ❤
Happy to help!
Much appreciated Duncan. He minita pono koe. I appreciate all that you share. It is tika pono aroha.
Happy to do the mahi!
How does the treaty's scope expand into radio waves and Te Reo? It sounds like, you agree with Seymor. The principle are important according to you. And they change frequently. Via the treaty settlements process there has been incremental changes to the treaty such that it no longer accurately captures the current state of the relationship between Maori and the Crown. There has been shift over time in practice, but not on paper. This is the crux of your argument, from what I can see. Ok. This makes sense to me. Back then NZ settlers was part of a monarchy and Maori also had a different social structure. Now we are all, in areas of politics, a democracy. How does not recording the current principles (or new terms, or whatever) support the first part? What is the harm in writing them down in a bill and using the existing democratic process to ammend them as necessary? At some point a new point if reference would be handy. It doesn't really matter who does it. The ACT bill, even if it went to second reading calls for a referendum on the matter. The principles put forward are.pretty vanilla. Basically NZ's version of life, liberty and property. I suspect the big point of contention is on the 'property' part as it would imply equal responsibility among all for their property and you said that the signatory party with more resources needs to pay for reparations. If we are all equal, then that part is questionable. As far as I can see, the British Crown hasn't spent money here on settlements for ages. The real money comes from the NZ government, which raises money from taxes. So any settlements current made are paid for by NZ citisens. So the argument boils down to who gets to decide how much taxpayer money raised from.everyone goes to a specific Iwi for a specific settlement in the future. Why should that not be all of NZ, given that the money belongs to all of NZ?
Thank you Duncan. Seymour’s bill is truly a metro passive aggressive attack on Maori. His bill is to white wash us, and remove our culture, language and lands and waters. Because under Seymour’s bill these are special rights, and we shouldn’t exclusively have them 🤦🏽♂️
Along with Capital Cities are sought after Capital gains. You are right and not wrong. People who lose the plot, want the Waitangi Tribunal to shut up shop, full stop.
Iike the American Decloration of Independence & the Treaty of Waitangi ! How relevant are these ancient documents in todays modern world 🤔
Te Tiriti is very relevant. It is the document that gives the government the right to exist and non maori the legal right to live here. It creates a framework that ensure the safety and well being for ALL ppl and the environment. A better question is, how do you claim to be a New Zealander and not know the importance of Te Tiriti?
@@missshante808 how can something 200 years old be relevant now? We can't live in the past...
@ToniHaddon how old are you... 10? Legal documents don't just get wiped cause u lack comprehension 🥴 does the crown still exist? Yes, does maori still exist? Yes, does this country still exist? Yes, does the government exist? Yes, do non-maori exist? Yes? What part of what I wrote are you struggling to understand?
Well said Duncan
The words have already been twisted over decades - the Treaty is really no longer truly binding given the complete change of the make up of the citizens of New Zealand
Education is the key here Especially when i see the calibre of people that disagree with the bill 45 Kings Counsel 440 Church Leaders Sir Geoffrey Palmer Dame Jenny Shipley Former AG Chris Finlayson The Crowns own Lawyers The Courts 100 years of jurisprudence. Actual academic rigor, and intellectual evidence and process, all readable, all accessible. How the principles work, the history of Te Tiriti and it being an agreement between The Crown and Maori, and those two being the only party's who can negotiate any change. Like all Treaties ever around the world. Also this isnt about race and equality, its about equity for the two Parties - The Crown and Maori. What academic rigor backs Davids argument... Oh wait, there is none. cause he doesn't site any studies to critique or learned opinion. You have to question that when the weight of evidence is not in his favor. Its like he just made it up...
Do you even know what it says?? Cos yr comment would imply you don't
@missshante808 of course I do...the stuff being peddaled today is most definitely twisted and, in some cases, is being deliberately misinterpreted
@@CatherineSimpson-g1x can u walk me thru yr understanding of Te Tiriti? How do you interpret it as no longer being legal? (Or as u put it "no longer truly binding") And why do you believe the likes of Kings Counsel, Academics, Judges, Waitangi tribunal etc oppose the bill?
Ok let's start with the definition of treaty.....it's a contract between 2 parties that have " concluded and ratified" the agreement...do you understand that bit???
All people equal in nz no elitism for one race over all other kiwis
What qualifys someone to be elite?
Promises made in the treaty by the Crown, yes the Crown of England. Those were made by someone else, not by New Zealanders as a hole. It's also a Treaty made between Tyrants. Cheifs were not democratically elected and the Crown certainly wasn't. How is a treaty between Tyrants applicable in a modern free democracy with equality? Was what happened to Maori in the 1800 and the first half of the 1900s fair? Of course not! The Maori were wrong horrendously. That is why since the 1970s Maori have been able to make claims and have them heard in the treaty settle court to get reparations. But if you think this bill is racist then you should look in the mirror. Your class privilege has shielded you from the consequences of the polices you have promoted. There have been multiple instances in my life were not being Maori has counted against me and my children in a big way.I’ll give you a few examples. 1. In the late 90s my adopted sister was able to get her tertiary education paid for because she is Maori. I, not being Maori could not get my Tertiary education paid for. If I wanted to go to University I would have to take out a student loan which back then attracted interest payments. I join the Army instead. She now is significantly better off than me financial as a result. 2. I have 2 autistic children who cannot independtly learn. They need teacher aid support. We have been fighting the Ministry of Education to get help for over 10 years now. A couple of years ago we heard that if we were Maori we would get the help. So to if it was true we told the Ministry of Education that we were Maori, we had someone from the local office turn up the next day(normally we would have to go them and wait weeks for appointments) and promised all the help we needed. However after a few days we were dropped when it was clear that we were not Maori and had no Iwi affiliation. 3. I have been unwell of late and Cancer has been a question mark. So the Drs have been running tests. I need a colonoscopy now but can’t get one through the public system because of my skin colour. Yes that’s right, if I was Maori I could get one from the public system but as a white NZ European of 43 years of age I can’t. Thank fully I have health insurance through my work so I can get it down through them. Those are just a few of the examples that have personally affect me. There are of course more. Need should also be based upon need not race. We can’t pretend to call ourselves a free and democratic society when it does happen either way. We must all be equal under the law. This reason this has blown up now and the bill has been made in the first place is because we as a country have never had a say on anything of this. The Principles has been created by elites over time since the 1970s and we have never had a say on it. I understand why the elite created the principles. They read the treaty and quite likely that the Treaty in late 20th century New Zealand was impossible to implement so basically made a new one that is not written down in one document but splattered across multiple bills and polices. It’s started out as a partnership (which was never in the treaty) and in the last labour government morphed into co-governance. That is the reason the country reacted so strongly to Three Waters because people realised big decisions are being made on the future viability of our democracy without any significantly input or joint decision making with New Zealanders as a whole. I really can’t see how we can survive as a prospers, free and fair democracy with co-governance. We you look at how this plays out in overseas countries it just doesn’t end well for anyone.
TimE Kuare!
@ yes your reply gushes of it!
1. Treaty is an agreement between 2 Sovereign Nations. It is legally binding and governed under International Law 2. Chiefs did not receive Rangatira status via tyranny (that comment shows a deep lack of cultural awareness). This bill is absolutely ra$ist, as it targets stripping rights from only one group of ppl. Indigenous people make up 5% of the global population and protect 80% of the globes remaining biodiversity (World Economic Forum's report 2023). Maori have indigenous rights that predate 1840, that's a legal fact. Its no different than if yr mum was a Kiwi and dad was Italian.. you'd have dual citizenship that u inherented. U dont take anything away from anyone. Indigenous rights take nothing away from anyone. But it can be a roadblock to foreign mining and exploitation (such as the legislations the govts trying to fast track thru). We already have equality (Bill of Rights, Human Rights Act 1990&1993).
Labour is destroying it's self
You're a clown Duncan.
ACT hid Heinous Crimes during Election. ACT are Racist Atlas Network traitors and frauds. NACT are corrupt, lowly Colonial Grifter Overstayers.
The Anglo Christianist Cults just got away with raping and abusing hundreds of thousands of Maori kids and others. Right back to taxfree and funded. They are ALL Colonial Cults.
Exactly what is racist about a bill that explicitly states "Everyone is equal before the law. Everyone is entitled, without discrimination, to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law; and the equal enjoyment of the same fundamental human rights.”? NZ Labour should be ashamed at promoting a two tier, apartheid state in New Zealand, let alone the blatant lies they’ve been telling the population.
All of those things are already supported by our Bill of Rights. Removing treaty provisions from NZ law makes it realllly easy for your mate David to sell NZ assets overseas and privatise everything you take for granted. No equality then for anyone without money.
You should be ashamed about your ignorance. Imagine having a strong opinion on Te Tiriti without knowing what it says... hmmm what's the purpose of propaganda again?? 🤔
Wow - When do we get to hear from someone who actually read the bill. Oh - I know, everyone should read it for themselves instead of getting their information from self serving idiots like this. I read it - and I like the idea of one people, one country, one government, and people like Dr Duncan Webb MP need to step out of the identity politics that the electorate voted out at the last election
and to think he was once a law lecturer, it seems he doesn't even understand the bill is to redress the race based inequality that has grown out of the 1975 waitangi tribunal leg and its disastrous introduction of ideas like "partnership" etc which the treaty is not
@@danielclausen5318 have you read te tiriti? The one accepted in international law?
@@theoriginalsuzycat studied it closely in NZ history and law school at university, yes, thanks for asking; so my question is: are the recommendations of the waitangi tribunal to the executive recognised in international law??
Good I like ppl who use their brains. So when you read Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the bill.... do u thinks it's an accurate replica? What's different? And why do you think academics around the country are concerned?
it was the Maori chiefs who asked schools to ban te reo, get your facts straight.
Speedlemon. Maybe in your history ‘book’.
@@wikitoriasmith1713 it's a fact jack !!
Really! That's interesting...
Sure and the English treaty says the same thing as the maori version 👍🏽 the irony that pakeha think they can speak for maori... while simultaneously ignoring maori (after all... that's why so many don't bother learning the articles of Te Tiriti)
Thnxbo
Thank you for highlighting the long list of offences against us including the Tohunga suppression Act.

The NZ Govt is not Sovereign of Aotearoa-New Zealand. They are only Govt and are supposed to serve GOD ALMIGHTY and the People living in our Land. This Sham Coalition govt needs to apologise to the Maori nation and if not, get out of Parliment!
A sham coalition it is not !
Clown, all maori are mostly not maori so the moaners should just pay themselves and get jobs.
i am still waiting to hear when the atrocities committed against the moriori are going to be addressed and reparations paid? or was that done in the name of cultural relativism and just part of history?

Neither. I mean what's so hard about honouring an agreement.

Lying woke muppet. Listen to Winston and WAKE UP
What has Winston Peters done for NZ in way of lasting positive effect?
Winston is only in it for the money. He at one time was also protesting alongside his Māori whānau for land lmao! There was no money in that so he changed his grift just like ShanePornoJones! Yea....listen to the cunning Māori guy 😅
@_.Marz._ explain what he needs the money for. Winston walked, when the cause was legitimate. Do your due diligence. Read the Bill. Then you will know what the Maori party smokescreen is about. The hikoi was organized by a failed Maori party MP, the partner of John Tamihere's daughter. You waking up yet?
@@_.Marz._ You know what I actually got a real greedy sense from Winston when I was watching him on the News the other day. So that kinda make sense 😂
@@TawhaiSinclair Yep. He's definitely one of those political grifting sell outs. There's a few of them in parliament and sadly, there's also many Māori who feel the same as Winston smh

What do you mean equality?
Yeah... white people won't understand how indigenous people get discriminated in their own country. You're too white to understand.
