This is a close up of the Copper Brain Coral . The dendrites on the surface grew really fast yesterday so it had to be rearranged. The basket setup had to be raised and electrolyte solution was raised as well. The wattage was dropped also.
Copper Cell Start Up
Переглядів 188День тому
This copper cell will be used to recover PMG slimes. Last year I smelting by PMGs from my stock pot and copper recovered from cementing my wastes out with iron . The copper brain coral was made with a graphite cathode that was used in a couple of silver cells. I ran it for about 4-5 months then shut it down . Please check out earlier video to see how it looked in the beginning . 9 Liters of cop...

Cool. I have an AA but no XRF. They seem the best for spot analysis.
After thinking about the iron contamination it is possible may have come from washing w/ well water or the Amazon wire ties
@@Hill-13 I’m guessing there is a surface bias to XRF. Maybe wipe with dilute HCl?
@@naughtiusmaximus830 I didn’t know that I hadn’t even removed the spores of fix on the bar yet
If that’s your XRF that’s awesome? I want one. I can’t imagine the x-rays get more than a few mm in so surface contamination is going to skew your results I think.
Good job 👍👍👍
Thanks getting there
Where'd you get access to an xrf!!!!
Work ( on the down low)
@@Hill-13 ah you know a guy😂
@@mattlevesque5927 that’s a better answer lol
Congrats H
Thanks a lot
Congrats on crossing 500🎉🎉🎉
Thanks Matt , I think I’m going to have to reach out to soon in regards to building a cathode . I think I may have picked up some containment’s from the stainless steel wire ties from Amazon or the melt dish . Kind of disappointing silver is 99.54 ( drag )
@@Hill-13 do you think it was that or do you think it's because of the length of time you ran it! Might be that it was pushed to far. Either way it was a great test. I would be happy to help you with a new one though. I just need some dimensions of the inside of your beaker and I can get going with it
@@mattlevesque5927 I’m a horrible procrastinator
@@Hill-13 we all do things at our own pace lol I know I do the same 😂 I constantly think about having to get something done and then I'm like na I don't feel like it 🤣
You need a bigger crucible brother awesome
Yes sir you are correct . I have “dirty “ bigger one that needs reglazing . I XRF the bar 99.56 , getting some new ones to see if the contamination is the melt dish or those Chinese “ stainless wire ties” I used for my cathode
@@Hill-13 let us know your findings brother interesting
Thought it was fried chicken tendies
Never seen a chicken tender that looks like this you must be hungry mate .
I’m too lazy. I’m going to try to soak boards in Eco-goldex E then electrolyze on to stainless steel wool the use the wool as an anode in the copper cell. I’m moving to aquarium bags over dacron vacuum bags. See if they dissolve or not🫤.
Good luck w/ the bags let me know . I found a material that came w/ my faucet need to test. Currently burning paper , filter and rags needs to tighten up my waste stream .
@@Hill-13 Will do. You are kinda doing the same thing as I am unlike Sreetips who is just in a different place. I want to use a potentiostat to regulate current but haven’t found any suitable units yet.
@@naughtiusmaximus830 I saw 2 older one sell at an estate sale locally , had money tied up in flatware had to let them go .
@@Hill-13 I have a good friend who is an electrochemist. If I get a good setup I’ll let you know. Guestimating 300 watts minimum. Many potentiostats are less than that and just for analytical work.
@naughtiusmaximus830 300 watts is cooking my friend. V times A equals watts .
I remember the days I could sit at the dinning table and micro scrap. Her in doors is sick of standing on plastic that pings off all around the kitchen. So I moved outside now banned from the patio so I have to stand in the workshop now. Winters coming 😢. Awesome brother. Someone got in contact with his method of depopulation of boards. Sounds chemically interesting so I am giving it ago I will post results next week. Stay safe brother
If you make yourself a small table top enclosure that has 3 sides and a top to catch everything. Then you could scrap anywhere
@mattlevesque5927 oh there are a few pins and pieces that are free roaming in the hotel room.
@@Hill-13 it happens 🤣
@@mattlevesque5927 I will definitely look into that I love doing pins whilst the tvs on in the background at night chilling
It would seem the trick is to stop it before the iron starts to deposit and collect the slimes. I’m going to try very low voltage and see if I can get gold and silver before the copper starts to deposit next time. A potentiostat controller would be handy but I’m still looking. The analytical ones are too weak.
This is a combination of novelty and collecting the PMG from my stock pot . The anode don’t have that much iron so I’m hoping that the is in form of hydroxides and stays in solution . I haven’t seen any discoloration of solution and some silver is starting to collect on the bottom of the cell .
Your soundtracks are the best
Thanks , I messed up today this was supposed to be the shirt to be released . Haven’t had time to make another video. . Pouring some silver bars this weekend stay tuned
Love it Nice on the 500 mate
Thank you
Thats cool looking
Thanks it’s getting too big for containers I have
Nice Hill, keep us updated with your progress. I'm in the same boat as you with the stock pot and wastes, really need to make a start going after the copper and silver.
Will do had a rough day today contractors hit a gas line then a power line . Utilities not marked correctly calling it a night
Very cool🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks little behind on some projects
Looked like you got to enjoy yourself 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Oh and picked up maybe 5 lbs of black sand reread Hoke’s book on refining wastes
What no surfing 😅
80 degrees yesterday I did collect some black sand btw good idea
Hi Uncle Jeff!
Hello sweet heart
I cemented one half on copper and denoxed the other half and dropped with iron sulfate again. It was the first time that happened. After dropping with iron sulfate I boiled it apparently too long and ended up boiling over while digesting the gold again. Crazy stuff.
Welcome to the fickle nature of chemistry do you have SMB ?
lol, yes sir. I didn’t want to use it for that drop. It was the bottom of an AR bucket that had some decent boards in it for a couple months. It definitely had a lot of different metals in it that I didn’t want to drop out. It’s turning out good, just strange. And now at the FD for 48 so I will at least have a fresh look at it when I get home from work.
How long does that take?
Leaching 1-2 depending on material , temp and acid concentration . Then a couple of days I usually do a little after work each day to unwind .
I have a question maybe you can answer. When using Sulfamic acid to denox. Will boiling after precipitation to get the gold to come together boil off the Sulfamic and let the nitric reconstitute and in turn dissolve the values again? Something like that happened twice yesterday with a project I have going. I split the project into 2 and repeated the process and just did not boil as long which worked. I do appreciate your work.
I would think once it deNOX its done but interesting theory , I might have to try and split the next batch into 2 parts , Sometimes o have a little trouble dropping Ewaste , maybe SMB would be a better option for first drop , but cementing out on copper alway helps when your stuck
fortnite shield potion
Have a well earned vacation bro 👍 Nice work on the silver
I bet theirs gold in the black sands on that beach 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Not a practiced panner , probably stay in my lane with E-waste
Your there just when a possible hurricane is forming 😮 stay safe brother!
Makes for better surfing
I suppose it would😎
The video went black about halfway through. I am working on a few things myself and it’s always good to watch the processes as I am doing them. Not bad sir. Definitely would like to see the rest
It was a edit error , not really sure if I like this new video app
Dropped gold with SMB Had a little bit of nitric left over (2 millimeters ) that I diluted it was used for a rinse . It is now sitting in solution then will be drained . I will boil the gold powder in water and store with other waste gold for further refining

Get that gold brother woooo🎉🎉🎉🎉
We will see, I’m saving up to buy a new truck ( 2016?)

Beautiful crystal brother 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Brother if you want silver contacts look in car and lorry fuse boxes they are massive.
Gotta hit the pick and pay junk yard now .
I saw a cool ashing method where they dumped the ash out into cold water and panned it.

Nice work man. Thanks man for the content. Just getting started about to do my first gold recover.
Good luck be safe
I know that struggle. Great catch and solve, and thats the best saying to get you out some troubles. Your silver cell looks good and more of a blue electrolyte, thats good. Great work 🎉🎉
Thank you I have just finished filtering out the cemented PMG . More to follow thanks again for watching and commenting
I hung out with my friend while he did this for over a year! He ended up making a pendant or something🎉 super interesting the kind of stuff you can do with scrao electronics and basic chemistry
I’m a little over 13 ounces of gold recovered so far , getting better at it ( I think )
I loved Sonic Youth until the singer came out as a rabid abortionist. Abortion is not a big issue for me but that was revolting.

Why cement with iron instead of zinc? Iron just seems like such a pain in the ass to work with.
Iron is easier to find cost me nothing . Iron is less reactive than zinc also
@@Hill-13 I was thinking glassware cleanup.
I was going to do a HCL and hydrogen peroxide run here pretty soon.
Add just a little peroxide . HCl and a piece of copper w/ bubbler works well also .good luck bro
That’s very close to my setup. I’m going to add a potentiostat next and see if I can control the deposition better. I use folded copper foil for the cathode.
I bought a roll of copper flashing for 12 bucks ( score !!) so I have been using that then putting the cathode in my waste buckets
@@Hill-13 I’m building an arduino potentiostat. Theoretically you should be able to get high purity gold out of a dirty copper solution if you have everything dialed in right. Gold reduces very easily. I’m thinking in the same direction you are with the slimes.
Check out suthko electrolysis workshop his ideas on copper cell are pretty cool , I like his idea of a slime trap using an upside down jug with holes in it
@@Hill-13 Thanks! I’ll report back if I learn anything with the potentiostat.
@naughtiusmaximus830 are you bread boarding it and using IC chips ?
Great video 🎉🎉

Hey mate. Have you tried lowering power to 1.5w and 1.5-2 amps. The crystals aren’t so fine it grows nice fat crystals. Nice though you getting a nice chunk of silver now
Yes sir I have but I’m so impatient the crystals seem to grow so slow @ 1.5 VDC -1 VDC.
@@Hill-13 fair enough
Update decided to exercise patience running close to 1.1-1.3 VDC .4 Amps crystal growth great silver consumption seem to have increased maybe because of the volume

Silverstoll used to call the end result a silver dragon. Probably not the real name for the cell but does sound cool. Lol I have seen a lot of people use the method with a copper cell. You have an email I will send you pictures for clarification. I need to harvest it. Started with a 400g anode. Hard to estimate yield.
Figured it out afterwards . Good dude
Nice haul! I have a cell going right now. I guess you would call it a dragon setup. I was hoping I could post a picture. Anyway. I enjoy your videos, I’m going to have to go back and watch more. I have seen your name on Silverstolls channel. I appreciate the content.
