Handmade Coffee Table from Wood and Concrete
Переглядів 587Рік тому
I made this coffee table for my good friend Greg as a Christmas gift. Some ideas were written down but at the end of the day I went with what felt right while keeping the original plan as a loose guide. Everything was created using materials I had at home, including some repurposed wood from a previous location where greg and I had worked together which you can hear me mention in the video. The...
Where did you get the tank bag,??
what tank bag is that? looks awesome and i might get it, is it waterproof?
I have a 2006 1200 custom sporty and I love it. She runs very good and she’s very fast. Nothing like riding a Harley, but after about 3 or 4 hours my butt starts hurting lol have to take a break.
Awesome content. Loved it and subscribed if you make more future content
Its really all about the seat on any motorcycle.
It does make a big difference
Always park with your wheel to the yellow barrier. That way the cops don’t run your plate.
I’ll keep that in mind
I hate it when people act like you can't tour without a $25,000 + motorcycle. Good on you bro.
Thank you
I agree with people, if you are not in the rush and like to stop every 90 miles, this is the kind of ride you want.
True
AWESOME. I enjoyed that.
Thank you!
How are your mirrors so clear? (especially at 20:23). I have a solid mount sportster too and the mirrors vibrate so much you can barely make out what's in them.
Are you handlebars rubber mounted? What year is your bike?
@@leogrigio It's a 2003. It's totally stock. I don't think the bars are rubber mounted. I don't think anything on the bike is! My mirrors are blurry at any speed.
What were some of the biggest issues along the way? You speak as if this was very challenging but it doesn't look like you had mechanical issues. Is this a comfort thing?
Almost lost my right peg on the highway, windscreen broke off the mounts and had to JB weld, almost ran out of fuel twice, clutch lever pin fell out and used some wire from the side of the road to hold it together for the rest of the trip. Other than that there was a lot of discomfort. I would say those were all minor issues and I’m pretty happy with the preventative maintenance I did before leaving.
Badass trip! I live 30 minutes east of yorkville, hoping to do this trip or a Florida run on my sportster.
Do it! You’ll never regret it
You can't ride a harley and drink Starbucks !
Damn I was waiting for this comment haha
Love my 2014 1200t ! Enjoyed your video. Thanks
Thanks!
Nice video. I started riding all over the place on a '99 883, the biggest lesson I learned was highway bars and pegs nd forward controls are a must. It makes the ride easier when you can stretch your legs out.
Absolutely
I'm watching this from Santa Monica....
Hell yeah!
What tank bag do you use for your sportster?
Some cheap amazon bag. The brand is Dracarys. The magnets were kind of weak but it held on the whole trip.
what helmet are you wearing?
Bell moto 3
I never thought this would be so cooooooooool I took this same route a few times in my truck shooting B&W film on my Hasseblad 500cm. I think I wanna go do this, yea
You should!
Preparation is key. 4.5 gallon fuel tank is also imo a must. Parrothead on the XL Forum has done coast to coast a few times and has his two sportys set up appropriately. He prefers them to his softail and he’s not a small dude I’ve met him in person. Love your video and hope you enjoyed your trip! Edit: haha the bus/truck/wood chipper tow convoy was hilarious! I’ve never seen such fuckery here in New England!
Oh yeah, it can be done with very little. I still can’t believe I saw that combo haha
Memphis shades windscreen, Mustang seat, sissy bar, and a Coleman rain jacket from Walmart (and rain pants with boots). Optimally, install highway bars. You’re set.
All you need. I bought cheap frog toggs and they were fine for this ride
I really enjoyed this video. My wife thinks I'm crazy for wanting to take a solo trip west on a motorcycle. I know a few people who have ridden from TN to CA and they've told me it was the most fun they've ever had. I don't know if I'd do a trip like that on my Sportster.
The experience is worth the pain of the ride
Youre a trooper. Im bout to do my longest ride so far. Goin from CENTRAL PA TO DAYTONA FLORIDA
Best of luck to you!
Nice video, but if you want comfort get a vehicle, any motorcycle is up to the task if you have in mind only the will of travel no matter how. Part of the adventure and experience. 🙌🏽
Thanks
Nice to see someone taking a cross country trip on something besides an Iron 883. I've been across the country on many different motorcycles over the past 4+ decades, including a 2006 Sportster 1200L, which I still have. Last year for carbureted Sportster. I've never owned a computer bike and never will. I noticed your bike has tube type tires. I learned the hard way to never ride very far from home on a bike with tube type tires. I could almost write a book about all the misery and grief that flats with tube type tires have caused me. One flat tire once cost me almost $1000 in towing charges, 2 day motel stay, and having the tire and tube replaced by a dealer. Had it been a tubeless tire, I would have plugged it, reinflated it, and been on my way. I have not had much luck with those orange earplugs, which I use for shooting. I found some from Cycle Gear that work a lot better. I live near Phoenix, AZ, but during the insanely hot summers I spend a lot of time up north. Too bad you weren't able to check out the Grand Canyon, only 70 miles from Flagstaff. Glad you made it. I would rather do it on a Sportster than on a Goldwing. I've done that too, and it was pretty much the same as driving a car.
Thanks for sharing Gerald. I didn’t realize those were tubed tires
You know, Leo, this could easily have been the BEST Sportster video on YT had you not ruined it with music. No vicarious experience here. Exiting out.
Sure, if you love the sound of wind smashing a microphone doing 70 mph. I didn’t have a motovlog set up at the time so music was the best option
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Feel it now.💪
Hell yeah
Hey bro rookie rider here… I have an 03 sportster 1200. Great video.. I can’t wait to ride in your confidence level.. regards from Chicago ✌🏼😎
Thanks man! Best of luck to you 🤙
Diggin the helmet
Thank you!
Ii ride a 2012 roadglide but i have always loved the sportster just excellent bikes
Great Video, I like the Footboards. Could you do a walk around video of your bike explaining the mods please. I have the same 03 Custom
No longer have the bike unfortunately
how often did you wheel the bike into the motel rooms? haha
Never but I remember wishing I could lol
I enjoyed the video man. Too bad the go pro roached some footage (side note, alot of creators are moving to the DJI action cam due to this very reason). I have had a sportster for 7 years and rode it pretty darn far, maybe not as long as you.. and i feel you when you say its not the right tool for the job. I tried my hardest to make it a touring machine and its just not in the cards. I recently bought a Pan America and last weekend did a 1000 mile trip (spread over a few days). I can't believe what i was missing. I still need to set it up more for my comfort but damn, i couldnt believe the difference. Anyway, look forward to more adventures, ride safe.
The Pan America looks like a dream! Good luck to you!
@@leogrigio Thanks.. the PA's are worth a test ride. Never gave em a second thought until i put my butt on one.
@tvd1188 I should do that
Man finally a real rider who shows the discomfort the agony of wind and how it wears you down to the bone . The unpacking after and how you just slowly walk to your room. This is by far the best and closest to how it was for me on a 3,000 mile ride. Hats off to you brother ! It’s crazy how badly the wind and roads wear you down. Especially solo. But you find out what you’re made of when you’re stripped from everything you know love and the things that protect and distract you from you . Beautiful ride brother .
21:42 bro next time try putting the gas tank inside the front end of the sissy bar then a thicker bag . That way the thicker bag is nothin but cushion to lean back on. I did it with a two gallon tank and it worked amazing!
I was worried about the tank leaking all over me if I put it in the front
I am a big guy and love my Sportster 1200! I want to take longer trips, when I was younger I took her on a 15 hour ride in one day and survived! I want to put another 20k on this old bike! But I am keeping her!
Hell yeah!
Hey man, major props to you for doing such a long trip on a Sportster! They are, as you discovered, perhaps not the best long-distance bike around. But they can be made into a...well...an "okay" tourer. The biggest problem with Sportsters is that they are cramped. They used to be called a "full-size motorcycle"...back in the 1960's. But not anymore. Things have changed. When I was a kid, the Gold Wing hadn't been invented yet. 650's and 750's were considered big bikes. Then, from Harley you had Sportsters and Electra Glides and that was about it. No Super Glides, no fancy BMW sport-tourers in 1970. Before the Honda 750 came along, bikes were pretty small. And even that one was small in comparison to today's bikes. First and foremost, to tour on a Sportster you have to have to have to have alternate places for your feet. You really must have mid-controls, highway pegs *and* passenger footpegs - all three! I prefer the flatter handlebars like you have, so I can put my feet on the passenger pegs and lean forward into the wind. Secondly, you have to have at least three gallons of gas. The 2.2 peanut just won't cut it for touring. All three of my 883's have gotten 55-60 mpg on the highway. My current 1200 doesn't do that good - only about 45-50. I'd be curious to know what gas mileage you got. But you have to do at least 100 miles between gas stops or the trip will take FOREVER. Also, you have to have a seat that allows you to move around, back and forth. Many Harley seats have a little scoop that you sit in. Not good. All of my (four) Sportsters have the flattest seat I can find. You *have* to move around. No, Sportsters aren't great touring bikes, but they can be used for it. One year, to get up to a summer job, I did a Florida to Washington State trip - 2,700 miles one way - on my '05 883. Then 2,700 miles back at the end of the gig. It was challenging. If I'd had another bike I would've taken it, but all I had was my Sportster, so that's what I rode. Would I do the trip again? Sure! On a Sportster? Sure. Great video and story! I look forward to seeing what other adventures you find yourself on.
Hey thanks for sharing! I’m not sure what gas mileage I was getting but I do remember stopping every 1.5-2 hours for gas. It was a nice break from the scoop seat like you’re saying. I had an airhawk cushion which helped but mannnn it was rough. I can feel the pain now just thinking about it haha
Wow so cool!
Thanks!
Ya know, many of the best rides, short or even a long trip are the ones you do on a whem at the spur of the moment and you just bolt for the door with a minimum of ? whatever & just go. When you need a change of clothes go to wally world & get you some duds. Oh by the way if you put on a raincoat it's like doing an anti rain rain dance & the sun will come out & cook you inside of that rain condom 😵. If you're not running into a day of heavy rain, or the weather shows only spotty shower's for the day, just ride through it man & nod at the riders parked under the bridges with their old lady's. 😵 You'll dry off in the wind when it stops or in-between shower's. Hellfire man you're not going to melt. Be happy, have fun, & enjoy the adventure. You'll be super glad, happy, & have really fun memories for the rest of your life & and some neat stories to tell. 😵 Have Fun Damnit!!! And Remember, you ain't gonna melt,😳 except maybe in that hot raincoat.😆Live to ride. Ride to live.☝️🇺🇲
Well said!
The video was very clear . I heard at the end that you used GoPro cameras Which GoPro are you using for your recordings?
I was using a Hero 9 Black on the bike but I used a Cannon EOS M50 for everything else.
The interstate is not Route 66
Is that bird shit on your background. 🤣😜 Great vid. Thanks.
Might be lol
So I had a 1991 5 speed belt drive 1200cc Evo Sportster. And I had a rear hydraulic lifter go out on it, the factory hadn't dried the frame before painting it so it developed rust spots . Had to have a new bike totally stripped down and powder coated . It was a good looking bike but a pain in the ass with that small gas tank . I tell you all this because I swore I'd never buy another Harley Davidson. Then when I got into the tourers it was night and day . They seemed to be far more reliable and in the extreme heat once in Vegas never missed a beat. I have a 14 Streetglide and 05 Deuce . And the bigger bikes are the way to go for any trip like you just did. In my opinion after 47 years of riding. 👍🇬🇧🇺🇲😎
Never rode a tourer but might try one out one day.
If you had done this on a "proper" bike I wouldn't have watched the video. Well done, you did good.
Thank you!
that truck smells like poop. why are you behind it??
You earplug guys kill me. You put on noise ass exhaust only to plug your ears so you can't hear them.
It wasn’t the exhaust, it was not having the right helmet. At highway speeds after a few hours of riding all that wind noise get’s pretty rough
Bruh don't lick and twist your ear plugs, that makes them useless... press them against your hand and roll them carefully, raise your ear and they'll fit right in!
Yeah you’re right haha
Awesome journey brother. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Awesome vid, this one and the roadtrip! I'm out of Okc and i'm sorry that part of your trip wasn't all that great! I'm on a 94 sportster and definitely want to take a road trip too (but probably not 2400 miles for my first one lol) Anyway thanks for the breakdown on costs and lodging!
Thanks! Best of luck to you on your trip
What a great low mileage find, so many of my used bikes were low millage almost all of them under 5K miles one was even only 550 miles and it was a 06 in 2014 if anyone askes I will tell all. At almost 69 I would have have to dare myself to take a ride like that. Man you are brave! Next time buy a cruiser, low millage of course. LOL
There are always good bikes out there. Hoping to find a new ride soon!
I have experienced two of your "trials": I too bought some frog togs for my first long distance motorcycle trip and had to grin as they disintegrated on the ride in the midst of a torrential downpour. I also took a long trip on a sportster. Let's just say I appreciate my streetglide so much more now. Great Video!
Haha those damn frog togs
