The BEST Intermediate Surf Tip
Переглядів 2,5 тис.3 місяці тому
The best intermediate surf tip is that you probably need to fix your pop up. The most common problem I have seen with intermediate surfers is that they struggle with the pop up. These days it's easy to come across a lot of surf theory that will help you progress faster than you ever have. But, that leaves a lot of room for mistakes because you progress so fast. This is a great example of how so...

the grass is always greener where the dogs are shitting - chris cornell
Any tips on how to maintain the high line while taking off besides looking down the line?
Good question, getting in early always helps. The later you get in to a wave, the harder it is to get that 1st bottom turn in. Angling take off also helps a lot, if the wave is a little steeper and you are taking off a little late. Having a good pop up can’t hurt, and rotating your shoulders out to sea as soon as you stand up will help as well. But, most important is to get in and get up early
@@independentsurfer thanks!
Really great video braking thing down in such great detail. Sounds like when turning its mostly with your back foot. That being said are surf skates not a good tool for training since your using your front foot to make most of the movement? Thoughts?
Good question, my thought on this is that the boards turning function is driven from the back of the board and if you don't have your foot directly over the fins, it's hard to turn. However, there are times that you'd want the back foot further forward like when you are speed generating or getting barreled, and then placed further back for turns. I think a lot of control over the board comes from both the front foot the back and hard to tell which is the real driver. But, I think it's most important to think about the upper body movement involved. My surfing really changed when I paid more attention to upper body movements
magnificent
That’s crazy because i was struggling for few weeks, focusing on my take off, trying to make it proper but i couldn’t see any progress until I realized that I was watching my board, so i started watch the line and it really changed everything, the pop up was more natural, my position on my board was way better i dont know how that magic trick works but it works
It's such a game changer!
You tried leaning your shoulders into the whip of the turn. Yes that's good, but transfer that energy through your shoulders to your hips and it'll look much better and not as forced
This was so helpful! She is also so good!
I always watch your video tutorials ❤
I always thought that half the battle was being in a great wave with a small group of friendly surfers. Even if I am older than their Mom's, they sense that i am out to be out in the water first and foremost. Being out in the water is a gift that we all share but we will not have forever. Second, the great wave part. Look at that peak! I mean my ageing and declining FL skills would still perk up nicely spending a good Winter or Summer ( I suppose here in Indo) just going out for two to three hours a day, then going for a bike or hike in the area to use the lower body and even the workout. That could be a nice scenario. But having a great peak and great conditions and a nice vibe out in the water and you are not distracted by cross chop or people trying to out paddle you for better take off position. I hate having to paddle too deep into the wave and not be able to make the drop because I'm too late in the critical moment when it's starting to pitch and I haven't got enough forward paddling speed.
super good session, also could be nice home warm up before session, thx
100% BS. No way on earth is she at "intermediate" level. She's a deadset, "dyed in the wool" beginner. Surfing at a competent "intermediate" level takes a couple of years of day-in, day-out dedication to make sure you're in the ocean in all conditions. This is an advertising hoax at it's best, purposed to further fill the line-up with kooks... which betrays surfing lore. The less people in the line-up, the better. We all know it... I'm calling this out. Happy to see she, like all of us finds joy and belonging in the ocean, but she's in fair dinkum beginner land... It's deluded. Regards from Lottie, Desiree, Gina & dad of course, here in paradise at Tuckomnbil via Alstonville and East Ballina 800km north of Sydney ex Maroubra. MATE ❤
Where's the intermediate footage?
It is just so relative. I thought that I was an intermediate after 2 months of surfing. Now I surf for 2 years nearly every day, my biggest waves were 4 meters, and I'm still not sure if I can call myself an intermediate.
Was waiting for the footage of intermediate surfing… no knock on her, but no one goes from beginner to intermediate in a month.. and that’s nothing to be ashamed of… it just means surfing is really hard to learn.
it looked like you got pushed in. I know men who’ve this is their 4th el niño season and are intermediates keep it up though, truly, but i promise it takes years and years and years
this title though…. one month there might not even been a single swell
Great that she's learning to surf, but let's be realistic - that footage is not surfing at an intermediate level...
From level 1/100 to 1.5/100
Facts nobody goes from beginner to intermediate in just a month 😂
You have great suggestions. Thanks for posting this!
Sorry but she is still a beginner.
Absolute beginner. And it's not 1 month, but 6 months...
Sorry but she is still a beginner.
haia bro, thanx a lot, it was very useful
Thanks, a few things I thought getting confirmed here and some new concepts to take on the water. did the follow up video mentioned at the end get created as well? Curious particularly at what to do with the quick closeouts - try to float them to link into a new section, get an air? lol
1:04 Every time i look down the line my waves are great, as soon O start to look at the nose of my board, everything goes wrong, my pop up, take off, foot placement, its crazy how much it helps me. Thanks!
This is so detailed and so helpful, can’t wait to practice using these advices
Always noticed it could be a 1ft (hawaiian) mushy day and even longboarders would struggle to ride the waves. But there would always be a dude on a performance board who still would just absolutely smash every wave and hit big maneuvers on them while everyone else would struggle to stay in it
Amazing video brother! Thank you Sir!!!! 🙌🏼
Roundhouse
This it's such a great video. Very difficult tho, but I'll try guys. Thanks so much 🤙🏽🙌🏼❤️💪🏻

Great yoga routine, thank you very much, just what I was looking for!
Great in depth explanation, thanks a lot, very helpful!!
Very good video I’m intermediate I do look down the wave but I still don’t have enough legs and arms movement.
Roundhouse
Ever Heard of a roundhouse cutback?
Cool
I did it first time trying to surf, honestly thought it's be so hard. Turns out it's simple as hell 😂
Stance is too wide and your hunched over. Stand up my dude. Unless your trolling…
You’re putting too much weight on your feet
only thing I see is your not shredding you need more aloha
Excellent insights there from Kim, this is exactly where my surfing is at currently and I can relate 100%. I'm making my way through your videos and I can say that your information and delivery is of a high standard pretty much on par with a handful of the very best channels I've seen. I think you guys need to keep doing these together with more regularity as you've got a winning formula and I can see your channel being very successful. All the best.
