How to Make a Cornice with an Attached Box Pleat Valance
Переглядів 26921 день тому
This linen floral fabric was too beautiful not to strategically place each bird and flower in just the right places. Box pleat valances usually have the same repeating pattern centered in each section but that's not what we did here. See how we had to plan the seams so that each section between the box pleats would have the motif centered and balanced appropriately. Then see how we attached the...
How to Cut Linen by Pulling a Thread to Get a Straight Line on Grain
Переглядів 204Місяць тому
Linen fabric makes beautiful drapery and home decor items. Whenever I'm working with linen, I use my favorite cutting method which is pulling a thread. When you pull a thread in a linen fabric, whether is a heavy linen, a lightweight linen, or a sheer linen, you will get the straightest cut possible. Besides being straight, the cut will also be perfectly on grain which helps your draperies hang...
How to Make a Hobbled Roman Shade
Переглядів 985Місяць тому
Hobbled Roman Shades are the most labor intensive of the Roman shades because they have lots of vertical fullness (which means extra fabric) in order to create the soft folds that make the "hobbles" when the shade is in the down position. Some call this shade a Soft Fold Roman Shade for that reason. In this video you will see all the fabrication steps needed to create this kind of shade. We too...

Work Order Walkthrough with a Drapery Expert
thanks for the tips n tricks.. what's coming next? can you do soft roman shade ?
Thanks for watching! I have a video about hobbled Roman shades and flat Roman shades. When you say soft Roman shades what do you mean? We all have different names for things so this will help me understand which type you want to see more about. Thanks for the comment😍
Thank you so much! Love your videos. It never occurred to me to serge the buckram in. ❤️
Thanks for the comment! So glad you enjoy the videos! Let me know how your next sheer drapery turns out with the new method 😍
I would like to have seen the very beginning of the process with the buckram
I have a video called Sheer Drapery from A-Z and it does show the buckram step. Here’s the link if you would like to watch it. ua-cam.com/video/2JcZ-9zvzrU/v-deo.htmlsi=XkYf3EilGN6E46t2
Clearly explained... thank you!
Thanks so much!! It’s hard to explain so I’m glad you understood my logic. 😎
Gorgeous work! Wish I could take lessons.
Thanks so much! I’m doing a monthly online class for Patrons on Patreon. You can check into that if you want to. Thanks for watching!
I like the way you attached the valance with the cornice lining. Clever.
Thanks Kathy! And thanks for watching!
Hi, can i know how to make the curtain open two way? Thank you
For two way Ripplefold you need to divide the finished width by 2 then use the chart according to that number. For example if the finished width is 100” then you would look on the chart for a 50” panel according to your desired fullness. That will be the information you use on each of the 2 panels.
WOW. ❤❤❤
Thanks so much ❤️❤️❤️
Hello, Thank you for sharing all the wonderful information. I am looking for a good drapery steamer that I can use at shop and is portable for hung drapery. Can you recommend a good one, and any tips on the do's and do nots how to get the creases out , how to avoid the drapery stretching longer as it is steamed or what fabrics shrink too much to steam, or any and all tips regarding wrinkles. One such issue is when a vendor sends the fabric folded up in a package and not a roll. thank you so much.
Thanks for watching the videos and thanks for the comment!! I’ve had the big fancy steamers that you can wheel around but those are hard to get up the ladder to reach the top of long draperies on install day. So I like to use the portable steamers you can get at Walmart or any local store. They are light weight and when they stop working they are cheap enough replace with a new one. As for steaming fabrics that grow like linen… I try not to steam them but I do sometimes to help get the creases out and they do recover to normal length if the air is not too humid. If it’s very humid they will stay longer until the temperature turns cooler and drier. When fabrics come folded up I press as best I can and accept that linen is just going to have wrinkles.
Thank you,
Hey Linda, do you add shade stops to your Romans? And if so, where would they go?
Hi Diane, I do not add shade stops. Those did not exist when I started using this system so I don’t use them.

Thank you for watching!!!❤️💖💕🩷
Donde consigo las marcas de la mesa ? O es papel que se pega Saludos
It’s a canvas grid from Home Sewing Depot. The lines are printed on the canvas.
Such gorgeous fabric!! I am jealous - guess I need to find some new designers who love fabric as much as I do!!
We get to work with some beautiful fabrics!!!!
Beautiful!! So much work but the finished product is so worth it!! It is ART!
Yes these are very labor intensive but worth the effort when you see the final product! Thanks for watching!!!❤️

Thanks so much for the love and thanks for watching!!!!!🥰😍❤️
Hey Linda, I love how you explain using the grommets to string through to the front. How would you attach a Roman shade and valance for an outside mounted shade?
I’m working on some flat Roman shades currently that will be back mount/ outside mount. We will post this video as soon as we can get it edited. Thanks for asking!
Where can I watch how to angle panels. Do you have a channel showing how this is done
The video tutorial is here on UA-cam ua-cam.com/video/mMcp2UodAWU/v-deo.htmlsi=HycSA9DIe9kmlRK4
Where exactly do you do the tacking? This is the best video I have found about making euro pleats.
Thanks for the comment. I line up the pleat on the same place on my tacker every time I tack a pleat to make sure they are consistent. The exact spot isn’t the important part. It’s being consistent that’s important so that all the pleats are tacked at the same place. If I measured where the tacking stitch is, it would be about 3/4” down from the top and 1/2” into the pleat (that part varies depending on how much fabric is in each pleat). Sometimes I stitch them by hand- in that case I stitch several wipe stitches about 1/2” down from the top grabbing about 1/8” of each side of each pleat. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
Not only do I love your videos (and underscore music) …your patchwork transitions are perfect!
That’s so nice of you to say!!! Thank you so much and thanks for watching!!!❤️😎😍
Fantastic 👏🏻 please show us how you will cover the top. 😊
Thank you! Yes I will make a full video showing the steps to build it and to cover the top. Thanks for watching!!!
Hey Linda, is this the Traversing Clutch Shade Starter Kits from Rowley?
Yes that is the same system but it only comes in one size if you order the kit. You can order the clutch units plus the shafts and other parts separately for bigger shades. I like to cut mine to size and have all the parts on hand. I usually order the bigger clutch because it’s more heavy duty. You need to order the coordinating brackets depending which size clutch you order if you are not getting the kit. Hope that helps.
People need to see how much work goes into the finished work of art!
Yes! These are the most labor intensive shades. There are so many steps to make these beauties! Thanks for watching!!!
Such beautiful fabric
Yes a beautiful embroidered floral! 🩷
Great video thank you! Do you use any kind of stabilizer for the header?
Thank you! Yes these have 5” buckram for stabilizing the pleats. Thanks for watching!
What upholstery batting do you use?
3/4” Dacron
@@tullydraperyshop thank you - wonderful video !
I’m so glad I found your channel. I need to replace the lining in some velvet drapery panels. You’re very nice to share your knowledge!
I’m so glad you found me too! Go glad the videos are helpful to you! Thanks for the comment! It keeps me motivated to make more!🥰
Love your workshops, I've learned so much. Thank you.
That’s awesome! Glad the videos are helpful! Thanks so much for watching!🥰
Thanks so much for the tutorial!! You are definitely helping me expand my skills!! Question: instead of mounting the roller clutch in front of the shade and using a valance, can you mount to the back? Is the only concern seeing the roller mechanism from the outside of the window? Or is there something else I’m not considering? Thanks again!!
Thanks for the great question! The designer wanted this one to match the other Roman’s in the house that were outside mounted off the back with self valances. Otherwise we would have mounted the shade off the front with the clutch on the back. If the clutch needs to be hidden from outside we put a lining flap off the back to hide it. Thanks for watching!!!😍
That fabric is gorgeous!! Love your videos!!!
Thank you so much! Yes so pretty! Thanks for watching!❤️
How can I order some DoFix? I want to make some drapes myself. I took a drapery class years ago & I have made drapes before. I love your videos, I think I have learned more from you than the drapery course I took years ago. I love, love, love your workshops, so informative.
Wow such a nice compliment! Thank you for the comment and thanks for watching! So glad my videos are helpful!!! Feedback like this keeps me motivated to keep making new videos so thank you so much! You can order the DoFix from The Home Sewing Depot.
Thank you so much for these 2 videos! They were so helpful as I was engaged to build a HUGE 90-degree cornice that was 195" x 115" x 20". You gave me just the tips and confidence I needed to tackle this project! Have pictures to share if you would like to see it.
Thank you so much for this nice comment!!! I’m so glad the videos were helpful to you! Yes please share photos and I would love to share them as a testimonial if you wouldn’t mind. Thanks again for taking time to share your thoughts!🥰
It’s hard to follow the seam guide isn’t 😮
It’s hard to get use to it at first but it gets much easier with practice 😍
Thanks for your videos. They help us amateurs a lot!!! 🙂 Do the seams in the lining match up to the seams in the fabric? In other words, do you cut the fabric width based on the lining width so the seams will match up?
Thanks for watching! That’s a good question. When the fabric is solid we cut the drapery fabric down to the size of the lining if it’s wider than the lining. In this case because of the print we do not worry about the lining because we want the pattern to match at the seams. If we cut the drapery fabric down to match the lining then the seams would not match. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question ❤️
That burnout sheer fabric is to DIE for😳😍😍😍
yes!! So pretty!!!!😍
That fabric is amazing! Beautiful job!
Thanks, this was an amazing project for sure!
Fantastic instructions! Thank you so much for the video!
Thanks for the nice comment and thank you for watching!!!
Love the tip of un-threading the needle when turning machine off. I've been having a battle with the thread nests that happen when the machine is turned on and does that automatic stitch. This is so ingenious yet so simple. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks for the comment! I love when these tiny little ideas are helpful. When I started using this new machine I didn’t expect that the foot would automatically go down when shutting it off which traps the thread so I had to train my brain to remember to un-thread it. I try to have good habits like this for each machine because we all know that all machines have their own special quirks.
@@tullydraperyshop I’ve had my tracker for about three years. I waiting so long to get it and then when I did, I let it sit for months thinking I wasn’t operating it properly because of the thread nests. I also had trouble getting the correct needles. The ones that came with the machine were like ice picks, so when I got thinner needles it threw the timing off. So when I had to give in and call the repairman I asked him to leave enough time to show me how to work the machine properly. The tracker and I are friends again. I’ve been doing drapes for over 20 years but I’m self taught and work alone, so I really appreciate your videos. Our processes are very similar and it’s nice to get confirmation that what you’re doing is correct. It’s always important to continue to learn.
Im new to sewing. Could I ask where you got the cover for your table with all the measurements.
Yes it’s from Home Sewing Depot. Please tell them you found them here on Tully Drapery Shop UA-cam. ❤️
Oh my I never heard of that glue stuff. Whats the name of it please I couldn't make it out.
That’s DoFix which you can also get from Home Sewing Depot. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Roughly how long did it take to make these panels? I am currently doing my own time estimates but I want a goal to eventually get to because I tend to move slowly.
That’s a good question. It’s hard to say because I was making lots of other draperies for this project at the same time. I cut all the fabric for 5 rooms, sew it all, hem it all, cut all the lining, etc.
Great instructions and thank you for explaining details to keep everything in balanced and in place. issues later.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment 🥰
Great machine. I have used a walking foot machine to tack pleats and it’s such a struggle to position the pleat under the foot. This makes quick work of it. Well worth the investment 👍🏻
Worth every penny! Thanks for watching 😎❤️
Love this machine!!
It’s amazing! Do you have one too?
14:00 - After you turned the skirt hem up 2inches, did you hand sew the hem? I saw you measuring 2” and pinning the hem. I didn’t see how you permanently kept the hem in place.
The skirt fabric and lining are already sewn together at that point so there’s no need to secure it. At that point I was just turning the stripe fabric up 2” to the back side to make the hem. Does that answer your question? Thanks for the comment! And thanks for watching!
just got a blind hemmer and now can't believe I didn't get one sooner!! Great video!! Thank you!!
Congratulations!!! I know the feeling! I wouldn’t want to be without my blind Hemmer for even a day! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching ❤️
Beautiful!! Love the pleat!
Awesome, thanks so much!!!😍
Excelent job explaining all the steps. Excellent job. People don't realize how much work goes into making drapes.
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 🥰
Absolutely beautiful!!
Thank you very much! Appreciate the nice comments 🥰
@tullydraperyshop I also do window treatments. So I know how much hard work goes into all of this. I am doing 3 bay windows right now with similar banding with cording sewn on. Your work is so beautiful!!
