Another great analysis, Pat. Yes, it wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win is a win. And this was usually the kind of loss we would experience!
Thank you Tony! Let’s keep it rollin!
You are spot on Pat! Glover's 3 was the biggest moment of the game for me, he has been relentless in his few minutes this year. And like you said, I love Vince's effort, but he is not ready yet for the minutes he is getting and Prey breaking out. Prey may be my favorite player rn, so composed and I never seen a big man get so low in a defensive stance against a guard. Even his missed free throws I felt were more unlucky than nerves. If Wilcher can learn to be more of a facilitator and go strong to the rim (like Smith) when his shot is not falling that would be a huge step for him. Love his growth so far, just want him to become more of a positive impact kinda like Scott when they are off their game. Very happy with the win, and I had a feeling we were going to win despite being down big in the 1st half (which has not happened in years). This team, despite driving me nuts at times like a typical St.John's team, feels different. The effort is there and they seem to play more as a team compared to other years. Thanks for letting me rant as always Pat!
Thanks as always Mike! I think this year is Sim’s year to focus on his shooting and scoring and playing off of our two great facilitators. Hopefully next year he can take a leap in the playmaking department! Glover should be able to step into Simeon’s role next year. Hoping that Prey can take a leap and then the following year take over for Zuby…who speaking of we are going to have to pay very very well this summer!
Love this podcast!
We love you Meta!
Excellent breakdown of the game, Pat. So glad we escaped with a W, despite 42% from the line and terrible shooting from Sim and Scott. Would like to see more of Prey and Glover!
Thanks Rich! Didn’t play perfect (or close to it) and still found a way! I think we’ve got some really good freshmen here waiting to get more run this year and next.
They came back tonight against Providence, great win!
Yeah baby! Here’s the recap for that one ua-cam.com/users/live5oW7NbtWY40?si=o0VA6r9pCxYGLPno
I've been an SJU fan since '76 and I'm loving how they're playing, represent guys! 😊
St. John's only made 3 3pointers against DePaul and still scored 89pts. I understand the 3pt shooting concerns but I'm old school screw 3pt analytics and keeping piling on 2pters. St. John's plays to their strength
Great point Ron that I hadn’t really thought about. Gotta do better than 3 3 pointers and 30% but you still score 89 despite that and that’s pretty damn impressive. Once the 3 ball starts falling we’re going to be scary good.
Great job done Cole and guest host Sean. 🔥🎙🏀🎙🔥
Thanks as always Ron. Loyal viewers like you is what make it worth while for the 3 of us. It fires me up knowing that other people are as passionate as we are about the johnnies to listen to us babble on about our boys.
Solid end to end win. Dare we hope this is finally our year?
thanks for checking out the video! If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my over two decades of St John’s fandom it’s never to get your hopes up haha. However, we do look primed to do some damage
From your keyboard to gods ears rich. Maybe Rick can finally get us over the hump.
U guys STILL need to not worry about Pitino’s reputation OR ego! Pitino is NOT a good in-game coach AND, his substitution abilities are NON-EXISTENT. There are no rhyme or reasons for his substitution choices. Kudos to u both regarding ur Zuby comments--he is BY FAR St John’s top player and could evolve into a 9th or 10th man on an NBA squad. He brings energy, hustle and intellect to the court and he’s got GREAT hands. He needs work but I can see him getting drafted in 6/26. Zuby is the best and most important player followed by the unsung Scott, Smith and either Luis or Witcher. Richmond STINKS! He shouldn’t be in the floor. No way he should be taking away mins from Smith or Witcher. He’s the most overrated athlete since Ron Bloomberg! Luis has great potential but he is not a smart player. Like Richmond, he forces WAY too many drives to the hoop and, for some reason, refuses to dish to the corner for wide open 3s. He missed Dunlap 3-4 times last night. All in all, the Redmen look impressive. I believe they can be a 3-seed come March Madness.
Cole the analytics don't say all 2 point shots are not favored . What is favored is 3s or shots at the rim. The ones to avoid are the mid to long range 2s and Pitino just said that is what they have been practicing so Rick is going against analytics.
I’d counter that the analytics probably change a lot when we’re talking a wide open 3 pointer compared to RJ taking a contested layup against multiple defenders but I agree that most say the mid range shot is the worst shot in basketball.
It's crazy to me that basketball analytics today see 3pt shot better than 2pt shot smfh. I will use the 3pt shot within offense, but give me the higher percentage 2pt shot any day
Thanks as always Ron! 50% more points is a lot..it’s a balance. Can’t shoot 3s for the sake of just shooting 3s, but don’t embrace it as a heavy part of your offense and you’re putting your team at a big disadvantage IMO.
Finally 1:04
Thanks for waiting Tom! 🎉🎉
Optimistic Cole > Pessimistic Cole
Guys a mush!
loved Coach Lou C., grew up watching his teams at St Johns and the Nets!
One of the greatest to ever do it not just on the basketball court but also as a person in general.
I’m surprised we haven’t gotten one comment on me and Pat wearing the same exact hoodie.
RIP Sweet Lou
Awesome episode from the boys. Deivon minutes are puzzling as he’s a stud. Loved the twin towers lineup in the Baylor game. Worried about bubble watch. Simeon is the blueprint for glover, he will be brought along slowly
Don’t get Cole started on the twin towers! But honestly I loved the way we played during that stretch with Prey and Scott both at forward spots. Prey is still someone I hope we see get more burn as the year goes on. Think he can help us a lot right NOW. Thanks for listening brother!
Great podcast guys. Defensively our Johnnie's have to do better with getting stops, offensively Johnnie's need to value the ball limit turnovers, bettter shot selection is important, player egos need to be checked, players need to make sacrifice for the greater goals of the team.
Hey guys. Another great breakdown of what sounded to me like a poorly played game. I don’t get CBSSN so couldn’t watch any of the games. But do you think Kadary is injured? I know you said the style of play now is different for him but to see such a difference in his play from last year just makes me think something may be off with him health wise. I agree that I’m still optimistic about this year but this loss does set us back a bit, unless we beat some of the top tier BE teams during the regular season. Enjoy the break! Happy Turkey Day to you and your families.
@@tonypct thanks Tony! I don’t think he’s injured, maybe just a bit banged up. Hopefully this trip gives the staff good evidence of what he and the the rest of the team need to work on, and can get it done!
Not surprisingly, (once AGAIN!) u guys COMPLETELY miss the point regarding ur St John's analysis. Yes they committed a great many turnovers; yes, they missed an inordinate amount of free throws and, yes, they made many foolish on-court decisions. BUT, so did Baylor! One needs to be reminded that these players are kids---they get a pass in my book for all their basketball sins. The person who does not get a pass is Pitino!! Once again, he proves that his coaching 'greatness' is nothing but a myth. First off, HOW could he keep Richmond in the game so long? That kid is a turnover machine---I broke an abacus while totaling his horrific miscues. I thought this guy was a great player---he is proving otherwise. Does Pitino really think this kid is an NBA-talent? GOOD LORD! Richmond has been an absolute flop thus far. The team is far better off with Wilcher on the floor. I am a MUCH better shooter than Richmond. He looks miserable, even on the free throw line. Furthermore, EVERY JV high school coach knows that if u have the ball with 6.5-seconds left and enjoy a 2-point lead, u put your BEST free throw shooters on the floor for the inbounds pass. WHAT the HELL was Zuby doing on the floor, at that point in the game? He missed the 2-free throws but Pitino was the reason the Redmen lost the game. Pitino continues to (negatively) astound with his lack of game-management 'skills'.He is seriously challenged in this vital part of the game. Lastly, I wonder where Pitino will lay the blame for this loss. We already know that he completely absolves himself of any blame (based on his impish behavior during last season). Pitino cares about ONE thing: PITINO! Overrated is the only word that comes to mind for this self-proclaimed demigod ,d
A) these aren’t kids anymore these are professional athletes B) Kadary had 14 and 7 while tying for the least amount of turnovers out of anyone in the starting lineup C) With Brady hurt and removing Prey, because you’re not going to put a true freshman on the court in that situation, Zuby Ejiofor is your 5th highest Johnnie in FT shooting percentage on the young season. 1 piece of Pitino criticism me and Shaun forgot to bring up is I thought it was malfeasance for Rick to show that 5 men out of bounds look then have Scott Drew call a time out and then still run that same out of bounds play. EVERYONE including the announcers knew that 4 men would run deep and someone would set a back screen for one of the guards. Baylor knew this and switched Zuby’s screen forcing Deivon to have to cut back to center court where Zuby was already rolling after the screen.
Sorry but ur reply is ludicrous. I’m not going to waste my time to address all of ur risible comments BUT, the worst bullet point is that Zulu is their 5th best foul shooter. How many players haven’t even shot a free throw yet? A coach should be watching every player shooting free throws at the end of practice. I guarantee that Zulu isn’t close to being their 5th best free throw shooter. In the immortal words of John McEnroe: U can’t be serious!
@@DeanFierro-s3hthanks for listening Dean. You’re the best!
I completely agree with your point. And this is after just watching us lose to Georgia. Wilchert needs to start over Richardson. Richardson is too turnover prone. He thinks he can thread the needle with his passes every time. He is a shooting liability. Sure sometimes he makes nba like passes but his risks are more then rewards at this point.
U are wise! Pitino and Richmond deserve each other-- they are both grossly overrated. In fact, they both stink!
The only good about losing like this in the Bahamas is you’re still in the Bahamas. Kudos to the SJU fans who made the trip. Bummer for us poor saps still going to work tomorrow during sweater weather
Great job as always guys! Wish you were not shadowbanned because the whole fanbase should be watching you guys. I am just happy we won an important out-of-conference game. As a fan since 2019, I do not remember having an early-season clutch win like this one (only that one game against WVU lol). It feels good and hope it keeps going this week. Excited to see this team keep coming together, this year feels different. Feels less chaotic and more organized than any beginning of the season I have seen. Hopefully it stays that way in the Bahamas
@@michaelstebbins1561 thanks as always Mike. Big Twitter is out to get us! But with dans like you we’ve always got a chance.
I gotta say RJ Luis Jr played his best game so far in this early part of season 21/11/7. He didn't force bad shots vs New Mexico, and found open teammates. The way he scores and rebounds he could be a walking double double
A few more assists and he might be a walking triple double 😉
Agree Ron. That was RJ’s best game of his career..and I think he can top it!
Cole what is your issue with Luis taking the ball to the basket? He happens to be good at it and more often than not scores or gets fouled.
@@StevenMinerva-k2d rj is more often than not out of control. He needs to let the game come to him. I've been "with pitino" for many years. RJ reminds me of Russia Smith.
He’s often out of control with his head down and not looking to create for others. I mostly have no issue when he’s in the half court looking to create off the dribble but when we’re on a 4 on 3 fast break and there are teammates open but he just insists on creating for himself that’s not the best look. Like I mentioned Fanta used the phrase out of control multiple times in regards to RJ last game and I thought it was one of his better games cerebrally.
I really wish pitino would play Wilcher Brady and Vince more
I don’t mean this be snarky at all, why?
@@rapidreactionpodcast cause big picture he needs to develop them and give them game time experience not only that will help them this year but next as well when all these seniors are gone. Plus I have a feeling Vince and wilchier might transfer if they don’t get the playing time this year.
I think it will be time to worry about that if it becomes a pattern. First tough game of the year, Rick wasn’t taking any chances today. I think Wilcher will stay a big part of the rotation, I’m not as confident for Vince.
@@rapidreactionpodcast I think I agree. But I want Brady to have more consistent minutes too.
They played poorly today (even though they won by double digits. Way too many turnovers and weak rebounding in the 2nd half. Lazy passes. I know they'll get better...but they're gonna need to get better for sure.
While I think they definitely did some things poorly, I wouldn’t say we played poorly. Lot of good out there but a lot to work on. Long way to go!
@@mbarnett865 I agree. Kadari Richard’s is a little inconsistent. I love smith and Scott’s game.
IMO when you’ve got Rick pitino as your coach to get a comfortable early season ooc win but still having it be an imperfect performance. Rick has a lot of things to get the kids’ attention on at practice and in preparation before Baylor.
@@rapidreactionpodcast their defense was pretty bad.
Another great post game review, Pat and Cole. You guys are m6 go to after every game. Your analysis and break down of the games are so informative. At 3-0 and being ranked #22, I’m tryin* to keep my excitement in check! I’ve been a fan for decades and I’ve been disappointed so many times. But this does feel different. I’ll be watching on Sunday, as I’m in South Florida. I want to make sure the young upstart Pitino is kept in his place by his daddy. “See” you at the next podcast! Tony
Thanks Tony! Appreciate you brother. Enjoy Florida’s, we’ll be covered in snow soon!
@@tonypct thanks for the love tony! I’ve given up on trying to keep my excitement in check.
K.Richmond unselfish.
Love unselfish players!
He’s gotta start looking to score more but I truly believe that will come. Triple double Kadary is incoming
3-0 is 3-0 baby. Bring on New Mexico. Another W on Sunday and we’ll keep climbing up those AP rankings
Protect the Garden!
Totally agree Pat with your assessment on RJ. RJ Luis Jr.'s shot selection needs to improve. Great, he had 24 pts, but it was on 8of17FG. Iwuchukwu gave us good energy and production in 14mins. Prey certainly should get more mins. Prey has played against grown men overseas so I'm not surprised by his positive production. More surprised by how quiet Kadary was on offense. I think Deivon Smith and Wilcher can be those shut down guards
@@RonaldGholson-cq7xt I hoped to see better on ball defense from both those guys. Plenty of time to get it right! Thanks for listening Ron!
2 games into the season and we got career highs in scoring from both of the Sophomores. Rick Pitino’s player development is as advertised.
@@colelatshaw2317 your 35 point Brady breakout prediction up next??
Real happy for Sim. Liked what we saw from prey and vince. Deivon being able to affect the game with his vision and defense was great. The scoring will come for him, his jumper looked good and missed “small”, soft carim and bounce off the rim just didn’t fall.
Agree about Smith. He’s gonna be a huge part of what we do and will be needed against the type of backcourts we’ll see in the BE.
Great job St. John's!.

“Cold Water” Cole I tell ya 😂. Thanks for listening and for the kind words, Tony!! So excited for the season
Thanks for the love Tony! We all should definitely be excited for the upcoming season. Rick is going to do special things with this squad. My only gripe is I hope if we get bounced in the round of 32 or sweet 16 we don’t look back and regret not doing whatever it took to get one of those 3 real deal bigs that we were in the red zone to land.
Hoping Ruben Prey is a dominant PF from day 1 and makes me look like an idiot
U two sycophants never cease to amaze---nor do u ever waver from worshipping at the feet of Pitino. He is the 'GOAT'? Are u insane? Did u watch ANY games this past season? Pitino SUCKED! He is selfish and self-centered! He was outcoached and, very often, outclassed by other coaches. He acted like a 3rd grader when he through his entire team under the bus at a time when he SHOULD HAVE been trying to LIFT them up. He showed his TRUE colors. Pitino is a phony and terribly overrated by the media and dopes/fans like u guys. HOW long will it be before Pitino tells us it is 'going to take time with this group'. That is his NEW go to line so that he can insulate himself against any criticism (though, he rarely gets any from the brown-nosers in the media and throughout Redmen Nation). Name one guy/player that Pitino 'took' to a different level last year. Alleyne regressed; Soriano regressed in a BIG way; Conway regressed; Dingle regressed BIGTIME as did Ledlum. And, lets not forget poor Glen Taylor---Pitino DESTROYED that guy in so many ways. Pitino stunted the growth of Wilcher and Dunlap. RJ Luis had some injury issues but do u really believe Pitino made him a better player? Mark my words, Luis will be leaving St John's after this season. He is giving Pitino another chance but, I believe, he sees the writing on the wall: Pitino cares about PITINO and that isn't going to change. U folks need to stop kissing Pitino's ass and start thinking for urselves.
Good show.. so stoked for our Johnnies... Ok tho Pat... adding an i to Dillon Mitchell is no biggie, maybe even a typo. However, lol. I'm not sure Kaeson Pryor is even the same guy as Kasean Pryor. 😅 jk
Oh man, the producers getting the Axe!! Thanks for listening Johnny!
Great few days but appreciate the perspective - last year's 6th ranked portal transfer was a disappointing season. Rick was smart in recognizing the kids that stayed and Sim especially has to be integrated into the mix. Lack of shooting is a worry - Dunlap may play a larger role than expected and Dingle's return would help. Still, exciting times and hopefully this team will mesh early so we don't have to sweat out a bid to the dance.
I personally think Wilcher and especially Dunlap benefit greatly from Kadary joining. Can guard the more physical wings than Dunlap struggles with on D, and can set him up for open looks on O. Wilcher gets to learn next to two veteran guards, not to much unlike a Stephon castle did last year at UConn.
Absolutely loved Rick’s tweet celebrating the returning players. It’s easy for us to get fired up by the new toys coming in but roster continuity is crazy important and those players choosing to stay and grow under RP should be applauded.
Been looking for you guys. Couldn't wait to hear this episode. Hard to move on from last year. Just need n want Ledlum back.
What a crazy 48 hours!! Wake me up when basketball season starts.
We had to get this one out early just for fans like you Jamie! Thanks as always
U want Ledlum back? WHY! He stinks!!
@@DeanFierro-s3ha big body who has already shown he can produce in the big east. Averaged 10 pts and 7 rbs last year and that isn’t anything to thumb our noses at. Roster continuity is certainly important in teams that have been successful in the transfer era ala Marquette. I’d welcome both Chris and Jordan back with open arms.
