LOL I thought the same thing! I kept hoping I was going to find a note. THat was the first vintage table from Indonesia I restored. Now that I have restored many of them I realized they almost all have things stuffed in the voids

Glad you enjoyed the vid. Excellent question mate. There are a couple of things going on here. First and foremost this door was originally made with wet wood. There has been a lot of shrinkage over the years and there are gaps in almost every joint. Previous to my restoration someone had filled the gaps with wax. I talked to the client and she wanted it left as authentic as possible. Secondly this door is an example of a farmhouse door trying to look like a proper manor house door. It had designs on being grand but it's not quite there. The carvings are crude and the construction was rough. To me and the client it adds a whole lot of charm to the door. You do the best with what you have and that old farmer was swinging for the fences... he missed but damn fine effort. Hope that helped 👍

Lots of my jobs is giving the owners the bad news... Generally they don't believe me. Nobody wants to feel like they have been slighted, or tricked I guess. And I so agree with your comment about the smell of teak. Sanding old brown teak is the highlight of my day everytime I get to do it. Thanks for dropping a comment Be well friend

yea unfortunately teak now seems to be a brand name rather than a statement of fact . I constantly have customers with "teak" furniture and I have the unpleasant task of giving them the bad news, Surprisingly I'd say 40-50% of the time they don't believe me . I've long since given up trying to argue I just agree and say "yea you are right. it's my mistake" and take their money to restore their "teak" furniture... what are you going to do, right?

Last week I had a client bring me a red oak table she bought on marketplace. It was 1mm veneer on OSB... I told her and she got angry at me A fool and their money ....
