This song is from Ian Anderson's Homo Erraticus album. The pianos and organs are originally performed by John O'hara. Homo Erraticus is a phenomenon album, with a captivating Northern European History concept theme. The album is particularly cohesive, and it was the majestic organ, rhodes and piano playing on this album that played an enormous part in my wanted to take up keyboard in the first ...

It is a modern rendition of a traditional song. I got a surprise for you. The Phrygians, a Thracian tribe, are the ancestors of Bulgarians

Listen to the xena warrior princess sound track the main theme and "Homeland"
I'm actually torn between which of these two keyboards to get. I'm looking for nice, punchy ensemble brass sounds (for latin and gospel styles), and modern leads and pads (for contemporary worship/church). Which one would you recommend for these sounds?
I don't think you'll regret the Modx. I'm beginning to prefer some of the characteristics of the Modx.
I can confidently say that this is one of the most ancient styles of singing in Europe.
I enjoyed this reaction very much ; you bring a lot of knowledge to the table ~
I here Bulgarian Voices 1980,i find that Angel sings i love this Music lg Alex
You can’t be sovereign and a citizen at the same time.
Sounds so beautifull!.. Does somebody know what scale fits to this song or are there two or even more scales in this melody?
For me the choir is more reminiscent of Karl Jenkin's Adiemus project. Feels like both he and Lisa drew lots of inspiration from Bulgarian polyphony.
Bulgarian folk music is constantly used in movies. The most famous of which are Ghost in the Shell (although here it is more of an influence), Xena, Warrior Princess, 300 and Willow. Unfortunately James Horner gives no credit to Bulgarian folklore, although the main melody in Willow is „borrowed“ almost entirely from the wonderful Bulgarian song Mir Stanke le...
The only winner is the consumer who has the space & money for both
The only reason I have money is tremendous hard work and sacrifice.
You look a bit like Ricky Gervais! :)
My favourite comment 😊
@@adamjacksonmedia Thanks! I use the Fantom 06 btw, it's pretty great. And the MODX's great great great great grandfather, the S80! :)
Maybe you dont know but Lisa Gerrard from "Dead Can Dance" got at least one Album with ''The mystery of Bulgarian voices" and many many concerts worldwide together...
Host of Seraphim is sung in Bulgarian language and in the Bulgarian folk tradition.
derives from the Thracian culture
it is not modern, it's a slyle sung for hundreds of years.
ua-cam.com/video/-WkvWzBRYzU/v-deo.html
Interesting. I had a comment that says the song was created in 1988. I'm not sure to be fair.
@@adamjacksonmedia this particular one yea, but in folklore its older
You cant charge an iPad from the MODX, unless you leave it for about 12 hours. Other than that, as an owner of both i agree with pretty much all this. I do find the MODx to sound thicker than my 06, even for the vintage sounds. I also have 3 of the expansions.
Having both would make a great setup.
Thank you Adam, explained very well! I will dig in to the settings as you explained…..and I am subscribed for your future insights. 😊👍
This sounds very similar to one or two tracks from the Xenogears soundtrack (and maybe also Xenosaga’s soundtrack). Squaresoft must have hired a Bulgarian folk choir. Sounds incredible.
Ghost in the Shell and Xenogears themes were heavily inspired by Bulgarian folk choirs.
Oh yeah that’s right, I remember that part in Ghost in the Shell.
@@felldoh9271 I might actually be mistaking with the xeno theme.
Gotcha

Hi Adam your sound is very good I own a fantom and I would like to get this sound can you help me ?
I'm making a video for you right now. It will be up soon.
You have the absolute right to be confused about it trying to resolve if it's modern or whatever. I asked a friend who has a vast knowledge about the subject, and he told me that this kind of singing was introduced to Bulgarian folklore a few or several decades ago only. Now, I don't care much about "when", so whenever it's added, it's magical!
Your friend is not knowledgeable at all. This kind of singing was not introduced to Bulgaria...by whom. This is the Bulgarian style of singing but the harmonies, arrangements are by Bulgarian composers based on traditional tunes. Call and response is very typical for Bulgarian music
The song is not modern at all, "Kaval Sviri" is a traditional Bulgarian folklore song. It doesn't have an author and has different versions throughout the different regions in Bulgaria.
this particular arrangement is relatively modern
Sounds nice, Could you share your settings?
I will post a video for you today.
I would appreciate it, I’m a newbie with the my Fantom 07 for a few months and haven’t even got into how to design my own sounds.
90% of these is naturally in minor, major is rare.
with all my respect, please buy a proper headphone, like a beyerdynamic dt770 or better, its not expensive, but that popcorns in your ears are ....lol
I would if I had a "Music Reaction UA-cam Channel". But I'm not buying headphones to make 1 single video.
Excellent analysis. Thank you Which keyboard has best choir vocal sounds?
SAMPLE
''The mystery of Bulgarian voices" are the best
Kaval Sviri is from 1988 😊
I see! That's makes sense. Thank you!
The modern arrangement of Kaval Sviri is from 1987, but the song is a folklore song.
The 80's was the decade when the best music ever have been created, no matter the country!
Hiya! So “Kaval Sviri” is a song written by Petar Lyondev in 1975. His Professor, Zdravko Manolov encouraged him to continue composing. Thats when it was recorded by Ensemble “Trakia” in Plovdiv. Thank you for reacting to this out of world music!
Your obsession about Lisa Gerrard is correct as she is directly influenced by the Bulgarian traditional singing and she has collaborated on many occasions with great Bulgarian folk musicians.
Sir, I can't make the claim of being an expert but I must say I'm very impressed as you certainly know your stuff. I adore Kaval sviri.
Greetings from Bulgaria. Merry Christmas!🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬
Merry Christmas. Thank you so kindly.
This is braindead. Of cource it is his fault he got into it but he got to a point where he lost control - addiction - the desease, and that's where he needed help. Most addicts want to quit, not find excuses to keep using
I quit after over a decade of serious addiction. Russell Brand went cold Turkey. I guess only the brain-dead succeed in life.
@@adamjacksonmedia people are different and you shouldn't compare yourself to others
@modulus8136 OK, but I still think taking accountability from addicts it what leads them to death.
Losing control of your behaviour and thought processes doesn't make something a disease.
I think addiction was medicalised for insurance purposes, but I could be wrong. I do agree that addiction isn't a disease and that term would make someone feel completely powerless. Matthew said a number of things which indicated that he felt like a victim - he basically felt like there was nothing he could do.
How was it his fault? I take it you have never been an addict. He never wanted to use and 55 Vicodin, xanx concain a bottle of vodka a day etc was not something he was enjoying or getting a hit of and to get that high after going through rehab he would have to use a lot. Some people are an addict by there genes. And all it took was 1 random pill to start the whole addiction. The alcohol was a different story but when your young and you have access to these things, you drink? Please educate yourself
Very wrong. I had a serious addiction to alcohol, then opiates, for over a decade. My brother blamed the addiction (Like Matthew Perry) and past away. I blamed myself, and quit. How is it an addicts fault that they take drugs? Becuase they choose the behaviour. And just because you don't agree... doesn't mean I haven't educated myself. Unless you're claiming to the arbiter of all knowledge on the planet.
Is there any actual proof that it's genetic or is that pure conjecture?
@@adamjacksonmedia he survived through the addiction though and i know including myself many people who have. I have never said its not my fault you just have to get on with it. As i said no one takes the amount he did for pleasure and sometimes stuff makes you relapse. Its not the most uncommon thing, as well you have to remember the fact he had money so he was able to get the stuff he needed. Its not his fault that the first pill he ever took got him addicted as he was not the one who prescribed it. By saying ‘its not my fault’ doesn’t mean that they dont want to quit it just means that they feel less bad over themselves. Yes some peoples it is there fault because they continued taking it even without being an addict but more times then not, its not there fault. As well if you had a serious addiction to opiates and alcohol you wpuld know that he would become very ill without taking it. And he had said himself that he is in charge of his first use but then he becomes shaky and his mind keep racing about it. Some people’s addictions are very different to others so you may not be ‘uneducated’ your just saying that all addictions are the same basically.
@@j4Rose read his book he goes on saying it runs in his bloodlines and his dad was a heavy drinker.
@@user-pp4gi9iu5qThat could then just be learned behaviour. Everyone probably has an addict in their family somewhere anyway. The point isn't to blame the person, but to empower them. You can take control over your own mind.
Thanks for this video on my favourite guitarist of all time.
Sorry for so many messages, but it was totally worth it going thru your video, you are such a gentleman and clearly a savvy musician. Pink Floyd fandom can be quite harsh on criticism (getting mixed with personal emotional attachment to songs - or lack thereof). I used to despise The Final Cut, now I learned how to listen to it and I actually kinda crave listening to it quite often. I agree Remember a Day is a great song, indeed. I really dig More in all its glorious strangeness. Ummagumma is the hardest pill to swallow, by far (the live album is actually great). Meddle is a masterpiece. Now, with your musical skills, didn`t The Endless River remind you of every single phase Floyd has been thru? It did to me, some bits remind me of The Wall and Meddle amongst others, I actually enjoy it (I'm a guitar player so I'm kinda biased). Cheers!!!
Thank you for your comments. I think I may have to revisit Endless River. I'll take a proper listen. It SHOULD be something I would enjoy, considering I love that later Floyd as well.
@adamjacksonmedia Yeah, man, you enjoyed both other Dave-era albums (so do I), so there must be something there for us, lol
BTW, it's awfully considerate of you doing this...
I play every Syd song by heart, BTW. Songs like 'See Emily Play ', 'Arnold Layne', 'Flamming', 'Lucy Leave' and 'Lucifer Sam' are just awesome, IMHO. Dave's rendition is a whole other game, for sure. He brought a different level of musical complexity and accuracy. Dude!! You seen Nick's Saucerful with legendary Guy Pratt! Awesome, I loved that concert as well. I'm curious how you gonna roast (or not) The Final Cut and Dave-era albums, lol. And some more obscured gems, like Obscured by Clouds (one of my favorites). I'll get back to rant more when I'm done. Cheers !!!
Hey there, let the fight begin! LOL, CHEERS !!!
RokFlote, ear candy. A stunning album!
RokFlute is a really solid album! It's incredible to think how a band that put out great music, in 1967... Is continuing to put out great music in 2023!
Amazing

That's great. Thank you. I appreciate it. I'm really glad I could do something useful!
can you please play "strange kind of woman" by deep purple?
