I had a Copper Bronze metallic Mk1 1300XL (rectangular headlights). TUY 905L was the reg. I put GT front wings on it, twin-cam rear arches were added, a Fiat Supermirafiori 131 front bumper added and a Talbot Solara front bumper added as a back bumper! It had a 1600gt head put on with larger carb and jetting. It was sprayed in matt black which was unheard of at the time in '85, plus gold-mirrored window tint film added to the rear and sides. It had Weller 13" 8-spoke alloys added (sprayed matt black) with 185/60/13 Yokohama tyres. It had a red and black "fun fur" interior with a 4-spoke Astrali steering wheel, Cobra reclining sports seats and inertia reel seatbelts added, with a Pioneer radio cassette with Saisho graphic added and Pioneer speakers everywhere! I loved that car, but sold it when my dad managed to get me a really cheap ex-rep's MK2 Cavalier from his works.

South Africa had the 1.6,2 litre ,and 3 litre V6. They sold like hot cakes ,and were one of the best Fords ever produced. The MK4 and MK5 looked so good ,inside and out . Today the boxy shape is an absolute classic .

I used to buy ex company Cortinas from Auction, everybody wanted one, you couldn't go wrong. Glory days.

Hi, you forgot to mention about the RS3100 and the 280 Brooklands cars, also, the earlier models had a 4 speed manual as well as an optional auto box.

That's not the optional sunroof they never offered a flip sunroof as far as I know they were proper sliding one's

My Dad had a 2.3 V6 Ghia. As a family we drove it from N Wales to the South of France. A great car and my Dad preferred it to his previous Mk4 2.0 Ghia

I really miss ,all the cortinas ,i owned,apart from the dreaded rust.they were fantastic cars.so reliable,and just so easy to fix.i had a 2.0l ghia head gasket went.it still carried on with water just chucking out of the exhaust.cut out ,a few times.but she got me to work and back 30 mile round trip.just stop top up and go.i had saloons estates ,manual ,autos,l,gl ,gls ,ghias,and 2.3 ghias.a rare 2.3 mk4 4 speed manual saloon.beautiful silver with black vynle roof.i did 4 to 5 speed manual conversions.1.6 to 2.0 l engine swaps.so easy.i bought scrap cars.broke them ,fixed them up.a shame so many in the yards,in the late 1990s.like everything else!wish i could go back and save them,like other classics.in hindsight.i didnt like the sierra.because it replaced,my beloved cortina!i want to own some cortinas again ,in the future.now my daily square wedge shape motor.is a volvo 940,i own 4.next best thing to a cortina,or granada.reliable forever,dont rust,and 1980s style.i wont let them go.like my cortinas,i still miss them😃😃😃😃

I had a Mk IV Cortina for nine years.Never had to worry about it at all.Bought it for £500.One of the best cars l've ever had❤

That,s interesting to know some had six cylinder engines in australia,Ford's once built one with lovely name of CortinaCrusader I remember.

I had a love affair with Nina in the back of my Cortina.

I had a company Cortina MkV Estate, 2.0 GL spec. Got it in early 1980 and drove it for 4 years, clocking up around 160,000 miles. Given that a lot of that was motorway and long distance, I could easily get 37 mpg, week after week. As for top speed, let's just say it was rather faster than the figure you quoted! Its automatic choke was troublesome and many is the time that it would take quite a while to start! Apart from that, it was a reliable workhorse and load lugger.

I had a mark 5 cortina 2.3 Ghia s with power steering. It was lovely until my bro blew the engine on his way to work.

Australian MK 3, 4, 5 Cortinas were available with 3.3 litre and 4.1 litre straight 6 engines, as well as the OHC 2 litre.

Designed by Terreblanche in 2001?? Launched in 2000 - a year before it was designed. Or maybe designed in 1995 by Massimo Tamburini?
