Really enjoyed this book, an interesting story line , fab !!

The thought of two women, one a servant, going to even a country pub in Edwardian times is so bizarre, I couldn't listen beyond 13 minutes. Even in the early 80s, two women wouldn't go into a country pub without some very odd looks from the (exclusively male) drinkers and even the barmaid! Neither would Lady H have ever gone into the Public Bar, it would have been seen as the wrong place for her, for both her status and her gender. IMHO, if you're going to set something historically, at least reflect what happened at the time, not today. I know lots of people will be fine with it, but it's not for me.

I have a big complaint! After listening to these books, almost every other book seems boring or badly read. The bar has been raised to a very high level in both the writing and narrating departments. I know comparisons are odious, but now I am spoiled!

I guess it's always good to start with book 1 because I accidentally read the apple orchard book first which was more like #7 and I enjoyed it but I definitely thought the 2 women were more like friends or 2 retired spies but more equal than rich woman and her maid. The covers make more sense tho now. Lol. ❤

How can a guy write women so well? I wish I could be so gracious and witty when I speak, especially during stressful events! And his delightful prose is doubled in pleasure by the charming poppet that narrates the stories.

Does anyone else find themselves absolutely HATING Daniel?!and Laura but especially Daniel. I hate his weakness, cowardice, stupidity, obsession and utter failure. He did NOTHING but the wrong thing throughout the ENTIRE story. Laura wanted nothing to do with him because she couldn't stand the fact that he was such a coward. How the fuck did it take him so long to figure out they were selling the babies? I mean really? You see two women being held one live child and one dead but with no obvious intent to harm the child and no harm to the child your brain automatically goes to human trafficking. New borns and infants go fast on the human trafficking network. They did NOTHING but the exact opposite of what they should have done through the entire book. When he was standing in the garden threatening the baby she should have screamed while running at him. Alena should have screamed before he even got inside. I hate every single character in this book. They ALL represent the worst of humanity except erin, rob and Edward. Erin and rob are absolute idiots for allowing a woman who just attempted suicide to watch their child OR live in their home for that matter but as friends and sleep deprived new parents.......their mistakes are understandable. The only smart thing that happened was daniel FINALLY figuring out what should have been basic common sense when he figured out the spyware and tracked the IP address. This book did a good job of making you hate all the main characters. You feel no empathy for them because they are so weak and pathetic and so absolutely unwilling to do anything for themselves. Everything just happens to them and they just react. They will never be anything but victims because they are so unbelievably deluded and weak. They dont think for themselves, except for laura who DOES think for herself but not as a survivor but a victim. Just like Alena. She never took any responsibility for her own actions it was all Eons fault and none of her own. Ugh.

Great books ,I've enjoyed every one , but this one is spoilt by a long commercial break every 5 minutes ! I understand and fully accept there will be breaks , I get it for free so that's fine , but 10 breaks in an hour just spoils it

The narrator is great no complaints from me on that part, bt sara gil ??! Time & A Place ... Whats up w/Jack and all these secrets thats not husband material let alone relationship material, the fact that his ex who he once thought of marrying is NOW w/the cousin smh gross. And amy during the hospital of her aunt having a DNR clearly someone needed to EDUCATE THE DRAMA girl. She made it all about herself when the husband of 50 years ! Lost the love of his life like let him have his moment no she had to be screaming and attacked the nurse at that point throw her ass outta the room pls so everyone can handle that situation peacefully the last thing they needed was the annoying amy screaming around. . Soo far jack comes off as an assh*** he expects his wife to shut up and do as he says not caring to hear her opinion on the matter of thier kids being called or anything else thats not the way you communicate thats toxic! Im goin to finish the book wish me luck ❤ this is only from chapter 1-4,5,6? Lol .
