it was such a dirty action that the PNG and the whites from the mining companies ,were actually hated by the locals ,the locals were forceably moved from the ancient grounds and given land that was useless for their way of life ,even to this day i'm very sad that I actually worked there for the different corrupt companies and boy did these companies treat the locals with contempt because they argued and complained about the theft and correction with the PNG government the PNG government should be charged with murder and theft of the local land and lively hood of the villagers the real truth is that the bounganville people got approx 3.6% of the actual profits and the PNG got 68% of the profits and they protected this with the PIR from Moresby , I personally knew Mr Moses when I worked the mine site as a plumber for Beavis Bartell under O:Neill Industries in the early 70s this was a very shamefully time for the PNG as a nation due to the government greed and corruption under the Astralian government help

The Moroni people, children and people all over Bougainvillea did know or experience mal nutrition at the time. They had never migrated to other parts of PNG. If you saw them anywhere else in PNG, they were there for reasons of their studies in educational institutions, being employed ith organizations or conducting formal businesses. I lived and worked there for the government for ten years. Left before the Bougainvillea crisis. I've always loved this place.

I was there during Exploration, Mine Infrastructure constriction, start up, Operations and Closure. Witnessed loading of 1st shipment of copper concentrate on MV ANN MARIE BROVIG at Loloho port. MV BOUGAINVILLE MARU WAS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN JAPAN SHIPYARDS 🎉

A huge chunk of my life was consumed by the infamous Copper Mine project. First set foot at Barapinang Valley January 20, 1969 as student undergraduate civil engineer from what is now UNITECH. Attached under a Mr.Max Eden, first Site Mine Planning Engineer .Retrenched 1989 when mine was on verge of being shut down.

Only 7 minutes into this video and I paused it just comment, I definitely witnessed the village elders disagreeing to the stupid mine deals and convincing money or business ideas that the white man tried to explain to them because though they were illiterate locals, you can definitely pick out a con man when you see one. Whether US or Australians, the blood of the brave innocent and fearless people of Bougainville who fought tirelessly to protect their land from natural destruction are in your white but dirty hands. Australia stole these islands by removing them from the Solomon Islands and putting them under papua new guinea which it had colonial rule over inorder to plunder it. The biggest and richest island of the Solomon Islands.

I worked there from July 74 to Dec 88 with a short break part way. It was my best job and the best part of my life (although the place had some health challenges). I still love the memories.
