    Cycling experiences come at the expense of careful planning. Any route sending cyclist onto busy national roads or large urban centers is just a bad route created by irresponsible idiots. Some of the roads you showd are absolutely unprepared to deal with traffic and cyclist at the same time. There is no space to overtake and drivers end up frustrated when they get stuck behing lesure cyclists while they have to get on with their lives. I am not defending them but just stating a basic fact. If cyclists are present in roads that cannot accomodate them then conflict will happen. As i cyclist myelf i always avoid rush hout and the most busy roads. I don't want to be a bothersome obstacle and nor do i feel like endengering myself. All this to say that you don't need to use those busy roads, Other routes inland are absolutely empty for the most part. You can do the N2 from Chaves to Faro and ride almost by yourself until the Algarve. Portuguese drivers are like any other. If you put cyclists on dutch roads with no cycling lanes and lots of traffic they'll get pissed off sooner or later. Portugal is indeed behing in infrastructure but no country has cycling lanes in the middle of nowhere. As such, better planned routes avoiding roads like these must be chosen over other options.

    • @biking_beyond
      @biking_beyond 9 днів тому

      I don’t know if you have ever done a multiple-month-long bike tour yourself. But planning every single stage in such detail to avoid any road without a separate bike lane is (in my opinion) impossible…

    • @gabkoost
      @gabkoost 9 днів тому

      @@biking_beyond Simple planning has it place in short daily rides as well as in months long trips. National roads are very busy and not made to accomodate cyclists. There's no way to fiz that. The country will not build cycling lanes in the middle of nowhere because 2 or 3 cyclists on vacation pass by everyday. Portugal is very affected by rural exodus towards the western coast. As such roads connecting the main cities in that are have lots of traffic. Planning perfectly is impossible but chosing secondary roads over the main ones is very easy to do for the most part.

    I moved to Portugal after riding 10000 miles on electric assist mountain bikes all across America, the drivers here do not see you as equal traffic as in the states. At roundabouts don't use your life to prove you have the right away, they speed past you as you are a nuisance especially after they got drunk for the Two hour lunch. I drive on the outside of the white line and still get idiots crowding me.

    Gekaufte Werbung 😅Man verkauft sich hier selber eine Sache als Gut, wobei sie es nicht ist. Zum Beispiel eine Schaltung vom Kinderrad ist dann plötzlich solide. Eine Reichweite von 40-60 km, ist sowas von veraltet. Kein modernes System ist so eine Ente. Was gefährlich sein kann, ist die Motorsteuerung. Bei glatter Straße möchte keiner einen Motor haben der hart losgeht und nachdreht. Hier werden die Leute verarscht..

      Leuten, die (wie ich) auf der Suche nach einem günstigen Ebike fürs tägliche Pendeln sind, reichen die wie du schreibst „veralteten“ 60km Reichweite locker aus :) wenn man wenig Geld ausgeben möchte kann man kein top Rad für 5.000€ erwarten. Deine Ansicht kommt mir daher eher veraltet vor ;) Verstehe deine Kritik zu der glatten Straße auch nicht wirklich…

      @@biking_beyond Meine Anstichten mit der Reichweite sind nicht veraltet, sondern einfach Fakt. Lese dir doch mal die Daten von Bosch durch. Außerdem viel Spaß mit dem Rad und täglich pendeln. Wenn das Bike 5 Jahre hält, biste weit vorne. Oder meinst du das die China-Räder fürs ewige Leben gebaut sind. Wie naiv muss man sein. Glatte Straßen kennst du nicht, ich fahre jeden Tag mit dem Rad und kenne glatte Straßen(Schnee und Eis). Es bleibt einfach gekaufte Werbung mehr ist es nicht🤷‍♂️.. ich wünsche dir trotzdem alles Gute.

    If anyone is planning this route, the trail has been much improved from Mira to Figueira da Foz. The bridge in Figueira is currently "closed" to cyclists, (many ignore this), but there is a free ferry across the river from the marina to Cabadelo. The work on the bridge is planned to be finished by end 2024, but likely to be later than this.

    That ring lock is genius! It's called "Bäckerschloss" for a reason: You can easily lock your bike if you don't venture far away and nobody can just ride away. You also can buy a chain or a rope that fits into the lock opposite the key lock to lock the bike to a lamp post or something else. One more benefit: You cannot forget the lock - it's always there.

    • @biking_beyond

      Interesting to hear a positive review, however I just can not understand how anyone could possibly like a „lock“ like this 😅 securing a 3000€ bike with a mechanism that allows thiefs to just lift the back of the bike and comfortably carry/ push the bike on the front wheel is not acceptable for me 🙈🫣

      @@biking_beyond That's good news, since I live in Spain! In 2007 I moved from Holland to the Spanish inner lands (Extremadura). It certainly is true that in the last 10 or so years, the mentallity towards cyclists has changed very strong for the better, mainly due to campains from the government and even a new set of rules for traffic regarding how to pass by a biker. People are a lot more aware now and that is great. I never cycled in Portugal, but driving my car there is already an adventure.
