As a HVAC Tech, I have a single stage furnace, cheaper to buy, last longer than 2 stage furnace and cheaper to fix. The amount of gas you save is pennies a day.
Measuring amp draws on an ECM motor compared to PSC is very minimal. Except for the low speed. Which low speed is rarely used.
Maybe I missed the part where you explain how to size a unit. Seems all this video said is you should size it.
A 2 stage furnace does Not save gas money. If it takes 40,000 btuhs to bring your house up 2° it takes 40,000 btuhs. If you reduce the amount of btuhs to 20,000 in 1st stage it will just take twice as long to warm the environment. But you still use 40,000 btuhs. This is also why they are more comfortable. A 96% 1 stage furnace is just as efficient as a 96% 2 stage furnace. A 2 stage might be modestly more comfortable during milder weather. But many factors determine this.
Great video
what about the capacitor dying because of the heat and full sun all day? I loose one almost every summer
I just had mine replaced yesterday. I kept the base foam platform from the old one. Pressure washed it and at the end of the season I plan to pull the breaker and then using 4 rubber feet set the old cover on top to keep 9 months of rain, sun and leaves off mine. I might even add a few more dog kennel walls that would provide an off season shelter to keep it out of the rain and snow. If I find an easy way that doesn’t cost much I will simply try to keep the off season elements off of it. No tarps or anything to restrict air flow though.
Could you please tell me why an A/C unit needs to be exhausted to the outdoors while a refrigerator does not and if it were vented outdoors would it be more efficient?
Need an answer
Because we need to release the heat. If we put outdoor unit inside, it means we release the heat inside the room, so the room will not be cool. In refrigerator, we only cool down inside the refrigerator, So we just need to release the heat outside the refrigerator.
@@MawangHujan-fl2zn answer me this, if we *did* exhaust refrigerators to the outside of the building would they be anymore efficient?
@@MrEthanhines What we have here, generally, is a heat pump. Inside A/C unit is a heat pump, during the summer it pumps heat outside, and during winter it pumps heat inside using a reverser circuit. A refrigerator has a simpler heat pump without reverser, and it only pumps heat to the outside. So A/C and a refrigerator are very similar. Household refrigerators vent their heat to a radiator on their backside, to make them easily portable. But if you were to separate the refrigerator and the radiator, put the radiator outside and run the much longer lines to outside, you would have a DIY A/C unit. Now the efficiency of this new circuit depends on the relative temperatures. The hotter the room that you keep the refrigerator in, the more heat seeps in, the more heat pumping it needs to do. Same with the radiator, a cooler radiator helps the heat pump by reducing the temperature gradient. So if you keep your refrigerator/radiator inside a cool basement, then of course it's going to consume very little power compared to a refrigerator that is kept in a hot room (or a refrigerator that has its backside covered in cobwebs and dust). Again, refrigerator is a heat pump, and the less heat it needs to pump, the more efficient it is. The smaller the heat gradient, the easier it is to pump the heat, and less heat seeps back in.
@@chameleonh Thank you!
I keep hearing different things, some say gas some say electric. My gas bills are expensive, they have doubled. So it is very difficult to know who is telling the truth.
Top of the hat
Thanks so much, I do have a Trane X90 80,000BTU single stage and my house is a high ceiling and colonial style 2500sqf, one of my rooms upstairs has low heat, do you think 2 stage furnace will be good for me
What a load of BS!
Question, if I’m looking to start an hvac/r apprenticeship should I go talk to the company first or the school that does the apprenticeship program?
some companies will hire you without experience. Personally, I would get employed first and then go to school this way you have some real life reference and know what the instructor is talkling about
Two stage furnaces have a 2 stage gas valve. It operates the first few minutes on half of a flame. It the thermostat still ain’t satisfied it opens up to full flame until it is satisfied. It is a really simple mechanical operation not prone to failure. It can save a significant amount of gas during the mild portion of the heating season. Because it won’t overheat your house when you only need a little heat. During the cold season it is more comfortable without big swings in temperature. It’s a big upgrade for little cost. And it’s dependable as any other gas valve. But not a retrofit item because the induction fan needs 2 speeds as well. I used to work for the Farquhar Furnace Company. After the foundry burned down and they became a sales & service company. Located in Wilmington, Ohio. As a former HVAC tech I highly recommend a 2 stage gas furnace when you need a new furnace. Mine is a Tempstar.
hi this asif from saudia i need a job for hvac tech/supervisor
Absolute zero is -460 degrees F not -467.
"Promosm" 😻
Economics of it: most place in N.America Electricty costs 3x as much as Nat Gas per unit energy, than means use gas if COP is below 3 on the heat pump . for an Air-Air heat pump that is at abut 40F outdoor.
What about living in snow country? We get lake effect and now experiencing a blizzard where snow is measured in feet. Multiple posts from people complaining about clearing vents every couple of hours. Never had this problem with "old technology"
Everyone's situation is different, depending on home size, insulation, location, type of backup fuel, furnace efficiency and type of heat pump. My heat pump has a scroll compressor that can run at outside temperatures down to -10F without damaging itself. However, its efficiency drops off as the temperature decreases. Currently, the heat pump is set to run at outside temperatures as low as 25F. If it's colder than that, the oil furnace runs instead. Given recent hikes in heating oil prices, I think this is a good balance (in my case). It's true that the air coming from the registers is cooler when the heat pump is running, but it still heats the house, just fine, as low as 25F, without running continuously. Given the recent advances in technology, it's worth looking into if you're in the market for a new heat pump.
Very niece sir
This is why I created Chimella the Chimney Umbrella
I have a pleasant hearth ventless propane heater I use for my main heat, it fumes my house, help!
Many blessings
Even newer 410 prices ?
I just had my 24-year old HVAC, 13-year old water heater and whole house humidifier installed. Total cost was $8,600 including a $300 rebate from our local utility. The new system is a Rheem furnace (85,000 Btu, 96% Efficient, Two Stage, MERV 8 Filter), Rheem AC (13 SEER, 3 Ton), Rheem 40 gal gas water heater and AprilAire 600 Whole House Humidifier including a pump to move all excess water to the floor sump. Took 2 technicians about 9 hours to remove the old equipment, install everything, make some code upgrades and test. The house is a 2-story colonial, 2100 sq ft located in Upstate NY. Do your homework. Find a brand you are interested in and get competitive quotes to compare like for like. I had one company say they could provide the brand I wanted, no problem but then showed up and quoted me something else. Tore up the liars quote. Another company left off cost for the new water heater, that went into the garbage. If you cant get something as simple as the quote correct you probably can't do a good job!
10 yrs parts
Had to hear the person!
Thank you for your unbiased informations regarding the safety issues related to using a ventless gas heater
Thx informative video. I have read that the produced moisture will find itself to the coldest spot or surface. That’s why windows fog? So theoretically moisture try and find a cracked window?
Can you go from Natural, to propane, back to Natural?
So basically no useable information in this video. What I got from this video was there are options for heating your garage. Did anyone not know that before arriving at this video?
When you are quoted a price FOR a furnace, ASK them for the brand and model #. Then go online to check that number. You will be shocked at what their markup is. These 4 and 5 thousand dollar furnaces are actually $ 800 to $ 1500 BIG SCAM!!!
You don’t have permission to use my photograph, Forquer, especially when you don’t even know what you’re looking at or how to describe the components of the steam boiler. This is called theft of intellectual property, copyright infringement, and it’s just plain bad practice if a so-called “heating” company can’t even muster up one single photograph of a boiler they’ve installed or serviced to use in their video. You should take the video down. I’m sending a link to it to my attorney.
I use one to heat my entire 750 ft² home. It was Built-in the 1800s and is very loose so I've had no problems with moisture. The only difference between that and the vented floor furnace it used to have is my heating bills have reduced by more than 50%.
looking for Armstrong parts? Can you help ?
Is the life of the heat exchanger extended with a 2 stage vs. 1?

Do you use natural gas with those
Does single stage furnace run half the time of 2 stage furnace?
You talked a lot about "what" and used many technical terms but you don't really talk about "how-to" which would be helpful to your audience, just a suggestive comment, thank you!
In 2018, this video should include modulating systems. I think people are unnecessarily scared off of modulating systems. I see few professionals recommend them. But the savings in operating costs and the comfort is paid back in very few years in my opinion. It's sad that so many people are still hanging on to these ancient one-stage/two-stage tech for no reason.
You prob see some savings until you have that first repair bill, and all that savings will be gone.
@@AL-bj9vo I respect your view as a professional, but as a consumer, two Ruud/Rheem systems in, not a moment down in 10+ years. I'd happily take a repair bill with that kind of lifespan. The comfort alone is worth another 50% for me. But that's me. Also, most newer systems in other countries tend to be modulating.
So sad people only think in terms of repair bills and not the environment. Single stage typically is 80% efficient whereas two stage can get up to 96%. Plus your bTU can also be reduced by 20-30%. One needs to care for the carbon footprint. People would gladly pay this repair bill amount (approx 800 bucks) in a single year in smokes and drinks electronics and other unconscious activities just think about it.
I’ve learned the savings a homeowner can save usually isn’t enticing enough to pay that extra price for the better quality equipment. Most people just want the basic shit that works
@@hiteshk8758 plenty of single stage 96.5 efficient systems

Steam a thing of the past?!? Nearly every single home in New York City and Boston runs on steam.
I live back/forth in the The Bronx, Manhattan & Buffalo. I know what You're talking about, steam is the BEST heat and it's not DRY. Every house in Buffalo, NY, I lived in except 2 (steam heat) has forced dry air heat, I have to put bowls of water on the heat vents, it don't work as good as Steam heat from a radiator. It's funny how every city in the North East USA. Even Chicago, Cleveland, Minneapolis has more steam/water boiler systems, but Buffalo NY don't have many in residential homes. Most office buildings, schools, older apt. buildings has those *_"wet systems"_* here. The furnace in the house I own now is very old but it heats & runs real good, it has an humidifier on it, but it never worked since before I been owning in the house. I want to put a steam boiler system in I know it's gonna cost several thousand dollars. I better do it soon before it gets above $10,000.
