    You could also use some silicone chalk to keep water from the fuel pump. Good job!

    LMAO I'm a retired mechanic and you don't know how many of these I've done over the years and I've seen a lot of different ways to replace a pump but this has to be the coolest. I have a 91 and my pump just went out, I can't believe already, I know it hasn't been over 20 years since I put the last one in.HA. Anyway I have a youngster who is gung ho on doing this job so I think I will show him the tilt bed method just so he can say he has done one that way. Cheers. p.s. I love the price of the new pumps nowadays, 37 bucks for the whole thing. What a deal.

    I have the stepside version and the bed is skinnier, so I had some trouble trying to find the measurements. 4.5, and 13 inches from the front. 3 inches and 20.5 from the left sidewall. It worked perfectly I just used an angle grinder

    Dude, I'm definitely doing this. I have a problem somewhere from the tbi to the gas pump. So fuck it. I might make a couple access points on the bed...just in case I have to fuck with something else, and possibly gain a better angle. On what you might ask. IDK, and I don't give a shit. GM should've made it on every single vehicle. Good shit man. Thank you

    Bro are you constantly running your truck below a quarter of a tank ? Because fuel is the only thing that keeps them liberated. So always try to keep it above a quarter of a tank.

    • @reactions_with_will

      Once you're keeping plenty of fuel in the tank, then this modification isn't necessary.

    I think it's 4 bolts and you can raise the bed up and over enough to replace the fuel pump. I got that advice from a brother in law that is a certified Chevrolet and Toyota mechanic. Dropping the tank insane, cutting a hole like this is ridiculous.

    The reason a lot of pumps go out is a bad fuel filter restricting the flow, I’ve never had problems but have always changed fuel filters on time, have had many Chevy trucks from 1989 to 2011 ,Bought a older Chevy lately and the pump was making noise, sure enough,took the filter of and could barley blow through it .

    • @Deaddoginc1
      @Deaddoginc1 2 роки тому

      The fuel filter wasn’t ever the problem, I changed mine a few times when I had the truck I think it was mainly the wife driving it short distances and always below 1/4 of a tank… but who knows !

    Great video, just replaced oem lines from the throttle body to the filter, 94 gmc k1500 4x4 5.7 Suggestions by others for access door are great as well. My suggestion: Edit your description to share the dimensions. While in the bed behind the cab, from the drivers side, measure 11" then to the right mark 29 1/2". Then from the back side of the bed (behind the cab) measure 4 1/2" then 13" for the corners of your access door. Follow the video. Thanks for making this, I'm restoring my truck. 180k original miles 2 owner.

    Man I know this is a old video but did u figure out y your pump kept going out? U said goes out ever 20 minutes lmao but that's basically way mine is in the past 4 months I've put 5 pumps in and the 5th one went out today I replaced just the pump the first 3 times then whole assembly next 2 times every time I replace it it lasts 2 to 4 weeks I literally carry a spare pump so I can replace them on the side of the road and yes I have a hole cut in my bed for convenience every time I replace the pump I replace the sock and filter on the frame I have swapped fuel pump relays a couple times no change I haven't had the tank down but looking inside it looks pretty clean from what I can tell and the sock always looks clean did u just keep putting pumps in until one lasted? I've been getting them at oreilys imma try autozones this time it's under warranty at oreilys but think imma ask for a refund and get a different brand I don't let it get under a quarter tank jw if you just replaced them until u got a good one or did u figure something else out?

    • @Deaddoginc1
      @Deaddoginc1 3 роки тому

      I never figured out why, I don’t know if they have a bad wire set up somewhere, there was a bunch of running it around on 1/8 to 1/4 of a tank except for when it would actually go out, then if would be on a fill up day, I just went with the most expensive one I could get in hopes that for some reason it was made better than the others, after that video it still runs to this day as a trap wagon in a wheat field.

      @@Deaddoginc1 I noticed that it's always on a fill up day like u said it has never once went out when fuel was low it's always been within like 50 miles of a fill up I'm glad your trucks doing good I put a AutoZone pump assembly in it last time it's holding up good so far but if those have problems think I'll do like you said you did and get a really good brand appreciate the video I didn't think vortecs were as bad in pumps as they r after watching your video I googled a forum alot of ppl r doing the same wondering y their pumps go out all the time lol

    Well here it is middle of January in Idaho, and mine just went out. This will be my fourth one. I replaced the factory electrical pigtail the last time, and I got several years out of it. I believe a bad electrical connection at the factory pigtail was the main reason these things were going through so many fuel pumps. Anyhow, I'm in I don't give a shit mode on this one and doing it your way. I lifted the damn bed off my pickup the last three times by myself, and I'm done with that. Thanks for your video, and the measurements!
