Andrew Stanton: Used to Be a Sweet Boy [GRANGE HILL]
Don’t worry, I’m well aware that my Andrew favouritism is showing. The truth is, I’ve been busy as of recent, and chucked this one together from left over footage from my last Andrew video.
His story is silently heartbreaking. It sort of creeps up on you over the three series he was a main cast member of, but when you take in the seriousness of the situation you can see Grange Hill trying to make a poignant statement and extend a hand to those in similar situations. Great stuff.
And then… lined up I’ve got a tribute for Justin (and then I’ll stray from the two for a bit), and ideas for something dedicated to Gonch & Hollo, or perhaps a Zammo tribute.
I feel bad for my clear favouritism… but then again… it’s my little niche channel, so who’s judging?

In the first series, Justin Bennett had been a lonely character - one with no close friends, and who was teased by his classmates. The writers decided to create for him a confidant and companion, someone tougher than him who would create a buffer between Justin and the other boys. This was Andrew Stanton, joining the cast for its second leg in 1979. Andrew is scarcely mentioned when discussing ...
Grange Hill: Andrew and Justin (TRIBUTE)

In the late 1970s, born was Grange Hill - a series that started off seemingly simple (though not without the radicalism of the ye olde uniform debate) would soon blossom into a progressive, hard-hitting, and forever remembered show that covered serious issues… something that had never been done for a programme of its genre. However, looking back, it seems that the first of these little-covered ...
I really like Andrew, this was really nice!
@thethousandthhaunt3129 He’s my absolute favourite! So underrated in it all. Thank you for the kind words!
He was one of the prettiest boys in Grange Hill, without a doubt.
grange hill and the smiths.. this is all i ever needed in life. thank you for this
Another great video.
Your support means a lot! Excited to get some free time on my hands and make Justin a video of his own.
He looked really gorgeous, no wonder Justin seemed to have a crush on him.
Nice one. 👍🏿😎
I remember Grange Hill with fond memories. A good vid with a great Smiths song. Works well.
@@hopebgood Thanks! Must admit, I picked the song for two reasons. One being that it is my favourite Smiths song, the other being the lyric ‘and when I fell on the floor, I drank more.’ Lol.
Love it 👍🏻😊
@@RobertCraig-Morgan Means a lot coming from you! By the way, I plan to make a video specifically for Justin in the near future. Any particular song suggestions you’d like to hear for the video? :-)
@@st3wpotThat would be fantastic, I'll let you choose the song. Look forward to seeing it. Best wishes....Rob
❤ nice vid
@@stevengn7245 Thank you!
@@st3wpot my pleasure. I'm a big fan of your videos!
That's me and Mark. Good times, love the video xx.
Oh - brilliant! Never thought Justin himself would stumble upon this. You did a tremendous job in this role, though I’m sure those days must feel a lifetime ago now. I have to ask-was the subtext here intentional? And if so, were you aware at the time? Or did you realise later. Either way, bravo! Justin was an excellent addition to the crew.
Hi, thanks for the kind words. I loved your tribute video and great choice of song too. I loved playing Justin, it was great to see how confident he became as the series. It was great working with Mark, we became good friends off screen too. It would of been interesting to see how Justin and Andrew's friendship would of developed as time went on, but sadly Mark left the series. The writer's gave Justin a new friend, but it was never the same. Again, loved your tribute. Best wishes....Rob 😊
@@RobertCraig-Morgan I loved watching Grange Hill about this time when I first started at my fucking awful Dickensian grammar school. I knew I was gay at 11 but maybe cos I was having such an awful time at my school I totally missed the gay aspect of this story!
I had a similar thing in school too. Definitely some of the most golden, close, warm, funny, gentle and sunny days of my life. I'm so honoured that I experienced them...
@@stevengn7245 I had a great time at school with my mates. It was part of us all growing up. It was the teachers who were awful. They just regarded us as a nuisance.
