      Yes, be aware though that the setup for an AR scene is a bit different and that there is no XR simulator in 2021

      Hi mate, sadly it is currently not possible to build from windows to iOS. The best option I found when researching was this: assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/utilities/ios-project-builder-for-windows-15522 I don't know if this actually works though.

I still have 2 more doubts since its my first time building an AR project. 1. should i be concerned about this warning that pops up in my console: Package Lightship World Positioning System (WPS) Plugin has no loader metadata. Skipping loader initialization. UnityEditor.EditorApplication:Internal_PlayModeStateChanged (UnityEditor.PlayModeStateChange) 2. once i have all things set up, how do i get the project to run on my android device after i click build and run? like do I just have to connect my laptop to my android device via usb and the project would just appear? Hope i could get some clarification on this. thank you so much for the great help :)

    0:51 - Yes, I am TOTALLY commited to learn how to trigger events with Effect House using hand recognition poses (with fingers). I would be most interested in that kind of "advanced" tutorial. Don't leave anything for a later tutorial, even if it takes a 50 minute video. I'll watch. Thanks.

    Hey ! I see you are using Unity for Lightship but do you think Unity for Zappar is also worth it compared to their Mattercraft option? Thanksss 🙏🙏🙏

      Zappar SDK for Unity looks quite interesting for Web AR purposes, however it does not seem to support XR headsets yet, which Mattercraft does as far as I'm concerned. I might give it a try in the future.

    Hey Tobi! I love your content. It's been really helpful for my university projects. I'm currently building a game using AR, and I'm using Lightship for that. Lately, I've been trying to create a starting point for my game, and I need to find a place on the mesh using an indicator. I'm using a mesh with a mesh collider and the method Physics.Raycast(ray, out meshHit, Mathf.Infinity, layerMask) to find the hit position. However, my indicator isn't stable, and I'm having trouble finding a flat surface on the mesh using that method. Can you please help me with this?

      Hi mate, make sure you’re calling NetworkManager.StartClient() after the server has been initialized and is ready to accept connections. If the client attempts to connect too early, it could result in this error. Ensure that the server has successfully started before the client attempts to connect. You can verify this by checking if NetworkManager.Singleton.IsServer is true on the server instance. Debug.Log("IsServer: " + NetworkManager.Singleton.IsServer); Debug.Log("IsClient: " + NetworkManager.Singleton.IsClient); Debug.Log("IsConnected: " + NetworkManager.Singleton.IsConnectedClient);

    do you think its possible to do this with 3D models of an object of a real world object but have the camera view correct the placement of the object? the gps location is not accurate enough, so i get misaligned objects with its real world counterpart a lot. i was thinking of using openCV edge and corner detection to identify real objects and line it up with the 3d object.let me know what you think,

I am thinking if niantic VPS can cover a whole building or not as I am tryingot implement a digitl twin of it and have accurate alignment from 360 degree angle of the building. will give it a shot but it seems niantic VPS is more focused onto smaller objects

    What a funny headline from T3N. Is it allowed to work there on alcohol or do they not know the mixed reality's basic definition? I'll skip the MR concept and just talk about VR in order to criticise those blindfolding & fully digital vision providing headsets. They have to evolve into lightweight items for casual users, they need stronger computing powers, that is right. VR already have some crucial apps for education and simulation cases, that is also right. However, unless VR usage becomes a culture, I don't see any future of it. By culture I mean VR has to hold me in it's border for a critical reason for my whole life time. I need smart phones because I do calls and text message daily. I have a computer because I need to do precise 3D models. For that reason I have a computer desk and set up at my home. It is that crucial for me that I sacrificed a room for this culture / living style. So, if they want to keep profiting from their hardware sells, they need to think of how to add value to casual users lives, in the most comfortable and ergonomic way. I used Metaquest 2, owned a Pico 4, well, they are not there yet. With that being said, I believe with the power and possibilities of artificial intelligence has to offer, the VR market won't die. Because I trust the end users to create useful and critical purposes for the device with the power of AI.

    I believe and admire professional and exhibition & installation base products and services . On the hands, I am trying cut my usage of screen and tech off the work . As parents and creative I hope we will not try to replace, mimic nature and social interactions XR headsets. Also I believe lens base or actual glass shaped devices only option to make XR mass consumer product….I hope we will have balance focus on aesthetics of interaction and soma aesthetics. Multi modality interaction and device less time. As mentioned in the beginning professional and educational potential too great to let XR die out….

    I'd say them using the Apple Vision Pro as a barometer is absurd. What "normal" person has 4k to throw away on a non-necessity like this in this economy?

    Thank you for the great tutorial! Just a quick addition for everyone stuck at the PlayerData + PlayerDataManager section with the AllPlayerDataManager script, getting a NullReference error. You need to add an empty GameObject, call it PlayerData, add a Network Object and the AllPlayerDataManager script. Then you should be fine. Thanks to everyone in the comments who saved me! I did not spot it in the video... Now, back to enjoying the rest of the tutorial :)

    Lightship is a Niantic product and Niantic owns 8th Wall, so Light ship is not exclusive to Unity. It is also part of 8th Wall & their very expensive monthly price. lol.

      Hi mate, you are right that Niantic owns 8th wall and Lightship ARDK. Lightship, however, is a separate product made for Unity and as far as I'm concerned, the only shared features in between those two are VPS and Shared AR, although Lightship can use fully scanned meshes for VPS and 8th wall can't. AR Meshing, Object detection, Semantic Segmentation, WPS , Nav Mesh Agent System etc. are exclusive to Lightship at the moment.

    If I want to develop for Apple ecosystems, which Macbook do you recommend for starters? Been solely a Windows user but I want to branch out a bit.

      It depends on what you want to build. For my AR apps, I currently use a M1 MacBook Air with 16gb of ram. It’s doing fine, but I’d recommend a higher version e.g. M2 or M1 Pro or higher with 16 Gb of ram and ideally 1Tb of storage. You can also work with externals SSDs but this can become a bit annoying if you are dependent on it.

    Hello, in the NextGenTech forum, Justin from the the Niantic team said that the ARDK is written in C++ and it could be available for Unreal Engine as well if a meaningfull amount of users asks for it. Do you think that could be happen in the near future? Because I would like to develop a project with Niantic ARDK but haven't learned a game Engine yet. And it would be cool if I could solve the programming part with visual coding.

      Unity has visual scripting also, at the end of the day even though they are different engines, if you learn the theory around game design and how to make games in one engine that's the most valuable part. Transferring that knowledge between the engines would not be the hard part. You're better off just starting one right now, that'll be what helps you most!

You know, there is some kind of cat & water relationship between the artist and the programming language :) Yes when it comes to coding it is very important for us to construct an efficient workflow in the very beginning and that is the crucial case. For me, I guess there is no escape from learning the good old Bolt with it's new name. I am planning to get help from Unity's Muse for the worst scenario cases, if I choose to advance with Unity as an engine. Thanks for the chat & have a nice day.

      Hi mate :) I can only take a wild guess what Niantic will do in the future. But from the current stance, I'd say it is very unlikely to come to unreal anytime soon. Niantic developed all of their games like Pokemon and Monster Hunter using Unity. Lightship ARDK is basically the collection of all their technology they built for these games over the years, meaning it's tightly coupled with Unity. Therefore there is little incentive to port all that technology to Unreal, which they do not use themself. Then Unity is known for it's focus on mobile and XR platforms, thats why most developers in these fields choose Unity, while Unreals focus is on high end AAA games. So in conclusion I'd always choose the tool that is currently suitable for what I want to do (Not maybe in the future), it makes life much easier :)

Also, It would be so cool if an old 2D artist who is also capable of making awesome 3D games with Unity&Lightship decide to make a tutorial for the very beginners of both softwares on Udemy platform. I'm just thinking out loud :) Because we can't find any tutorial that teaches both the Unity and the Lightship at the same time from the ground. As far as I see, the existing Lightship beginner tutorials assumes that you already know the Unity and the Unity beginner tutorials assumes that you don't look for learning the Lightship. By the way it is possible make a RPG-like game with Lightship by using only Visual Scripting, right? 😬

    Hi Tobi, Your tutorials are very impressive and I have created a mobile application to Visualize a 3D object created using blender (with textures) in real world using AR Lightship. In here we used WPS (VPS). I can see the object in exact position (GPS coordinates) , but I'm facing several problems like I'm not able to see the model textures and other thing is the object is positioned bit high from the ground level. Is there any reason for this issue? I want to move down it to ground level. I'm glad if you can suggest a way to solve this. Thank you in advance!

      Sure :) So first of all are you using VPS or WPS (They sound similar but are very different) and did you follow some kind of tutorial or documentation? About the texture issue, is this something that happens only when using Location based AR or does this also happen in a normal ar scene?

      @@danayitmulugeta5545 So the issue is that as far as I know only iOS / AR-Kit has full body tracking, while Lightship / AR Core do not support this feature. But it would be quite cool. On XR Glasses this is definitely a thing.

    Thanks for the tutorial! I tried this, but only the second script works properly. I want to pre-place some objects though. I have no errors, but the objects still don't appear on the device. However, when I playtest in Unity, the debug.log statements seem to work well (Placing object at longitude X and latitude Y appear). A bit late, but any suggestions?

      Hi mate :) So if I get you right, pre-placing objects does not work for you, because the 3D Objects do not appear at their corresponding positions on device? Did you make sure to set in the Camera settings 14:08 the clipping plane option to 500, or even better something like 10.000 ?

My problem is that I am not sure if the loop that spawns the object actually works, because on the android device, the only log that appears is the: Status changed to available. When I run the game on Unity however, the game window shows the following logs: -Status changed to initializing. -[Warning] Package “Lightship World Positioning System (WPS) Plugin" has no loader metadata. Skipping loader initialization. (I saw on the site for ARDK 3.6 Release notes that this error is benign and can be ignored, so I am not sure if that’s the issue). However, in the editor window in Unity, the following debug statements appear: -Added object at latitude X and longitude Y. -Status changed to initializing. -Plugin Lightship World Positioning System (WPS) Plugin" has no loader metadata. Skipping loader initialization.

      ​@@user-xn7yt3oy7z So that means the Debug statement with the added object at latitude X etc. does not appear on your android device.. Is there by any chance another device (e.g. from a friend) that you could test this on? You can try to create a clean build under build setttings -> on the little arrow next to build -> clean build. Maybe this will help. Our first goal should be to get the log statement working on device. Did you also try to set the object at your immediate location, so that you could see them if they were there? Then also make sure that the occlusion manager which we added at 14:10 is turned of / disabled.

      Hi mate :). There are many approaches to this. One would be to create a new empty game object which holds a script with a list of possible prefabs. This object could spawn at the detected lamps position let’s say. On Start() it would find out which object has been selected by the player (e.g. using the singleton pattern) and spawn it.
