Leaving "The Upsides" Behind
The Wonder Years followed up The Upsides with another classic: Suburbia I've Given You All and Now I'm Nothing. It's basically a pop-punk standard at this point, and is today's topic in the final installment of March Sadness.

Great review! Fireworks is one of my all-time favorite bands. I played a couple of shows with them in 2006 when they were promoting their EP "we are everywhere". I remember seeing them live for the first time and being amazed at how good this band was. I think the biggest loss was when Tim Rengers left the band, that guy could do no wrong on the drums, he played an unequivocal part in shaping their sound. I do agree that HLP takes some time to grow, Goodnight Tomb is such a great song.

I had the chance to have a long conversation with Corey a few months ago in his discord where he completely changed my view on not just his bands own works but music in its entirety, he even walked me through some of the personal meanings of the songs on lessons that we swear to keep, definitely a channel I’m gonna keep coming back to!

I feel as though if your going to give any negative criticism of a critically acclaimed album then you should at least explain why you think so many other people love it but it's just not for you. (Side eyes at fantano)

For me with Spanish love songs I found them in 2018 and liked Schmitz thought it was really goods in 2020 I heard BFE and fell in love I was like this is best pop punk album since NCTH by TWY this may be the best pop punk album ever made it ended up tied with At The Moonbase by Slaughter Beach Dog for my fav album of 2020 and in 2020 I did a ranking of my top ten pop punk albums ever made and it ended up at number 3 behind NCTH and TGG by TWY. But since 2020 I haven’t listened to it as much and when I do listen to it I’m not as in to it I still love Losers 2 to death but idk I don’t feel like coming back to it ever. When they released No Joy I kinda fell off the band I’ll listen to everything they ever do (simply because once I find out about a pop punk or emo band I’ll listen to everything they ever do no matter what even if I’m not a fan) but I just don’t like them as much. No Joy I didn’t love simply because all the synths ruined that album for me. As for BFE I would def not have it as my third fav pop punk album ever anymore. Albums like copacetic by knuckle puck, okay by as it is, living proof by state champs, the peace and the panic and life’s not out to get you by neck deep and more would all be in front of it now. But to this day when I hear losers 2 my mind is blown. Amazing album and amazing band just not one of my favs anymore

I been a fan of TWY since December 2015 they are my favorite band. The Upsides and Subirbia while awesome albums are my 2 least favorite from them (I don’t count GSOI) there great but the production and vocals still needed work and they perfected that on TGG imo there last 4 albums are all 10/10 (sister cities would be a 10/10 but rain in keyoto I hate so it’s a 9.5/10) I love this band so much

I love 3 cheers. Maybe I'm missing something bc I was born in 99 and grew up as post hardcore was shifting due to the likes of Soasin, but I feel like 3 cheers fits pretty neatly within the phxc genre.

The Wonder Years is the only reason I like pop punk. I really dont like most of the other pop punk bands. Im a guy that grew up on punk music. Which is why Im always intested in seeing what bands I like end up on your radar. I have to recommend one band though. Dead To Me. Definitely start with their 1st album and 1st EP

I'm obliged to disagree with your hot take regarding Moth Song... I think the lyricism is absolutely breathtaking. That first verse?! "You flew around where my light goes, And you're chewing holes in all my clothes I let you out, thought you'd go home, But you said your home is where I go." The imagery is as beautiful and haunting as the tune. Other than that, as a fan of pop punk for as long as I can remember, I'm so glad I found this channel. Let's go!

Dude I discovered Free Throw about a month ago leaving a Mom Jeans concert and now I can’t stop playing this new album. I wish these bands were more mainstream nowadays. I feel like more people can relate to them then the 1,000,000th song about positivity on the radio.

Im a guy that mostly listened to punk music for 20 years. I went through a bad breakup and I finally opened myself up to emo. I found a lot of great bands that had songs I could relate to. Then I found Arms Length. None of their songs fit my story. My struggle. Yet despite that I could still enjoy the descriptive lyrics. Its much more focused on family than girlfriend. I have my own problems there also. This album perfectly encapsulates the dysfunction of a family, and the difficulties that result because of it.

Worst album? Completely disagree. How can the worst album have such incredible songs like "nerve" or "how you are", or "heavy gloom" which are master pieces. Everyone has their opinion but I think it's one of their best, I enjoyed it more than "proper dose" for example which is great but not as good.

I'm surprised to hear Cosmic Thrill Seekers described as "scattershot"--self-titled is incredible, but CTS is the masterpiece in my opinion, the way it all links together, the repeating motifs. A really cinematic experience. Then again, I've always loved Kory's vocals!
