How To: Paint Tire Lettering White
An easy way to add to the race look. I used Simple Green to clean tires thouroughly, then used Sharpie oil based paint pens to paint in the letters. Cheers!

Use a tooth brush, cleans better.
This will get stained so fast , best way to do this is just order actual rubber letters from eBay and stick them on they clean up easy
Congratulations on your work! I noticed that after two days the letters start to crack. Is it the same with you? Do you know how I can avoid this? Thank you.
Looks great, but how well does it hold up? Seems like something that would need to be touched up constantly.
Looks good exept the rocker will look awefull in a short time imo
Barefoot? Man, you're powerful brave.
Sweeet!
how many markers did you use?
Terrible idea, I tried that and didn’t last long at all. Go to tredwear.com
Leave the tires on the vehicle while painting. Otherwise the paint may crack when the vehicle weight causes the tire wall to flex during reinstallation.
The paint markers can be bought at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.. They Run About $8.00 each For The Big One & $5.00 For The Small One.. The Closer To The Wheel The Faster They Wear Off.
You have by far been the best at showing how and the best way of neatly doing this. I had never thought of using an exacto blade.
Can anyone tell me what to used to clean my tires before using the pen so it can work great.
Bare feet + garage lmao
Easy since the letter are raised but what about the indented ones, not so easy
They are actually easier cause you can fill up the letters better with the lip guide you ...but dont fill them up too much or they will drip out. Take your time on the edges and dont push too hard.
Its an Awesome ride
Hi, plis can you specific the pencil characteristics, where got it?
Wer we can buy the paint?
sweet ride

Abhishek Shetty sure.... all it is, is an oil-base paint pen.... i got at amazon, the same one is shown on this video.... i would try office max or a place like that too. it's a Sharpie.. that's the name brand.
can someone link the pen from amazon, i cant find it
DERLY Mc go to Walmart
It's an white acrylic paint pen by Sharpie. If you don't shelter/garage your automobile, paint has a tendency to sort of bleed from being in the elements/rain. But if you clean your tires regularly, the effect is minimal. Of course chemical cleaning, detergents or wet look applications to tires will probably break down the paint over time. It's all trial and error. You could try and seal the paint with a sort of clear coat (for acrylic) to protect the paint from environmental decay, scratches, etc. Normally I see folks apply two coats of the paint pen, then use an xacto knife to clean up the edges. If in time the paint turns yellow in places, use a product called Maguire's Plast-X, will take a very fine layer of paint off (with minimal effort), then clean with 70% alcohol on microfiber cloth to remove the polymer coat the Plast-X leaves behind, then touch up the paint again with the paint pen. There are also spray on white rubber in spray cans that could be used instead, but require extensive masking (with high quality painters tape and perhaps newspaper so as not to overspray onto the tire). If doing white walls on tires, white rubber spray may be preferable to sanding the black rubber down to the white interior. However, a lot of tire walls have makers/brands, so grinding that away adds to the authentic look. Good luck.
👏👏👍
I have thoughts makers n they work pretty good n they are water proof too
Great tutorial. Looks like it came out amazing. Time lapse was Def the way to go for showing the application.
Wow. Looks really good
Wear shoes to protect your feet. if you drop something heavy on your foot, you will feel it for years to come. Trust me, I learned the hard way moving a solid wood table - I dropped it on my foot while wearing sandals and now have nerve damage. Safety first people
does take it off between each wash? or not?
AmericanBass got flex? you
it comes off eventually
Usually comes off within a week :)
No, it shouldn't come right off with a wash, but depends on the detergent you use. The wet look sprays are harsh and will probably remove the paint. It's not a permanent solution, unless you can seal the acrylic paint with a clear coat made for acrylic.
Nice Porsche man, really clean👌
Use clear alloy lacquer over the top works and lasts ages
Eli I deed it can you please share a link for that lacquer you talking about?
clean bro nice car
Are these Sharpies similar to the standard Uni-Paint markers? Because the latter are actually made to paint on rubber; have you tried them? Thanks for the vid-cheers.
where do I get those pens? especially the big one, I went to Walmart and they had real tiny ones.
I got mine from the local art supply store. Amazon also is probably an option
I didn't know there was a sharpie that could of been use for that thanks for the video

Curious question, have you applied tire dressing to the tires with the paint on them? If you have, any problems with it?
I have not tried that.
Wil Rivera if you put tire dressing it may be petroleum based and will melt the paint right off. Just use simple green to get the tires super clean, but they won't have that shine.
looks awesome! one question though, how did they hold up to driving? I assume once the rubber flexes, that the paint will crack. any issues with this?
it will if u dont put enough coats i did 5 on mine
I will put 5 in then. Thanks
no problem
I have 3 coats so far. I'm hoping for the best here in 30 minutes cause I will be driving soon.
Johnathan Crumm yeah mine peeled off a bit on some letters just a bit
Doesn't work on my tires!!
Did you try multiple coats?
I know, I know, product simplification, but try using "tire Lettering Pens" you dont need a lot of coats and they work on every tire.
Don't they get dirty fast? If so what do use to clean the letters?
They seem to shed dirt pretty well actually. I have not had to clean them. I would wipe them with a soft cloth with water. Simple green may also work well, but I am not sure how it would react to the paint. Would be a good thing to test.
what spray did you use to clean
Simple Green
