When the battery is low on a Sigma Precious Metal Verifier, the green LED light next to the power button will blink slowly every two seconds. Can you test other stones besides diamonds?

Sturdy??? No I have had mine for about 4 months. Treated it like it was an egg. It is very light weight unless it has batteries in it.. I did Not drop it or move it around a lot and one day the arrow went to diamond and wont register for any gems. I am so upset . on a fixed income raising our grandson due to the death of our youngest daughter from cancer. I sure cant afford to buy another . I got an instruction book with it but no warranty plan so I guess I am out of luck. Has anyone else had this problem ? Or know of a fix?
