This channel is for paddlers that wish to paddle all or parts of the Columbia river. The purpose of the channel is outline different sections of the 1250 mile long river, explain and show videos of paddling those section with comments on what to expect, what to bring, and how to paddle those sections. The Columbia is a big river with 14 main stem dams, USA-Canada border crossing and more. Just a few paddlers attempt to paddle the entire river in any given year. Before I STARTED posting videos there was little information on how to accomplish this feat. My hope is that more will take up the challenge. One thing I have learned from paddling the entire river in 2018 was that you can not expect to paddle it without help during some of the longer portages. Some dams are easy to portage and many are not, do not expect help from the owners of the dams as their main job is to manage and control the water, also do not expect help from other power boats to escort you through the locks.
