Переглядів 1282 роки тому
This Video was created for an event using specific questions that I answered based on my lived experience as an Autistic adult, educator, leader, parent of an Autistic, and advocate for Human Rights and Neuro-affirmative practices. In regards to Pathologization: If an insurance forces an autistic to attend and participate in a meeting (not being asked if it was okay in the morning) taking place in unfamiliar environment (new place), unfamiliar psychiatrist, who IS NOT EDUCATED IN AUTISM, and can slap ANY DIAGNOSIS on you, based on HIS "EXPERTISE" of other disorders such as DEPRESSION (when you are clearly NOT) or anything else, completely disregarding AUTISTIC TRAITS and the REACTIONS TO OVERWHELM or STRESS or Complex PTSD.

So, who may join? What are the benefits. I went to some of the Summit (excellent) but I’m an advocate not a achool educator. This needs some clarification.

Embarrassing note. I refer to poet "Aldous Huxley" in the discussion with Matty (Existential Autist). Hmmm.... I confused him with my actual favorite poet W.H. Auden. Been doing it for years... when tired or distracted. Who knows why...

Hi Jay. Thank you for articulating what you are thinking and feeling so beautifully. I have a brother with autism. He is in his fifties, as am I. He uses some facilitated communication but only with my mom. I would love to connect with him more. Do you have any suggestions? Denise

All the best!

Excellent interview, Karen Muriuki (and Tania, of course)! Love how you're advocating for, and trying to elevate the voices of nonspeaking autistics. So important--and life-saving! CRPD is a really perfect approach in realizing a place in society.

Right?! Quinn did an excellent job, as always! The world needs active allies, both in the Allistic AND Autistic and multiply Neurodivergent populations. Privilege is power, and how we use that privilege can truly make a difference in our communities. We so thank Quinn for challenging everyone to learn alongside him on this journey!
