Calendar of surprises

My lovely boyfriend made me a calendar of wrapped books from my tbr shelf, for me to open one a year throughout the year. He confirms he put a lot of thought into it wrt how much reading I do when and what genres, and I’m super excited! Plus I open the first book.

What I thought of the books my friends recommended | 12 in 12 from 23 wrap up
I just realised I only switched one of my tbr, which is unusual for me. Go me!
I missed a book! I have to add one that was in one of G’s videos too; but I also want to add in my guild book group pick so I’m putting it in that slot; I’ll be reading The Will of the Many by James Islington
Hi :) Happy for your orilium tbr. I just wanted to point out it’s 2024 not 2025 if it is possible to fix that if you want:) Have a great day
Oh thank you!
The First Brith THing sounds WONDERFUl.
So very good
I had forgotten that a Trident was part of poppy wars. Whoops. In my case, Book Eaters has been on my 'interested but haven't gotten to' list. Though it seems to lend, if I remember right, more towards horror-fantasy for what it's worth. Thanks for sharing theses!
I actually haven’t read Poppy War! Horror fantasy I do like, so maybe I’ll give Book Easters a go thank you
Slightlyg curious about veiled given my interest in all the political happenings in Iran in the lack of choice there at the moment when it comes to coverings. Dark Water Daughter sounds amaaazing. something like haunting of hill house will always perk my ears. Okay scifi take on that premise that.. also sounds super interesting. I was not on the Fourth Wing train. however, I didn't think it was the worst thing ever where the other half seems to be.
I'll let you know how Veiled is :) There is a great book that I did read (some of) in preparation for the essay which might also interest you, Sexual Politics in Modern Iran by Janet Afary. Did you know there's an authorised sequel to Hill House? My sister-in-law is very enthusiastic but I haven't read it yet.
@@kirstensbooknook6575 I heard about that on some anticipated release lists! I'm skeptical but optimistic. haven't sought it out yet. Ooh! Thank you for the tip off on the essay!
That IS a gloriously gorgeous book!!! SUch an interesting box!
Is gorgeous, and I was right, my boyfriend loves the apron <3
Voyage of the Damned is gorgeous! And that library stamp is super cool.
So pretty <3
The flowerpot is super cute!
And it's perfect for holding my sewing clips that used to be in a mug. My sewing table gets more and more bookish all the time :)
I hope you enjoy Hide! One of these days I need to join one of her readathons lol
I’m super optimistic :) I think Macy’s Readathons are super accessible (and a nice length)
Yay great video!! I hope you love daughter of the burning city as much as I did! I hadn't heard of the city burning yet!
Thank you! I’m excited for both
I had not heard of Blue Monday before so that was an interesting thing to google lol. I didn't know there was a Legally Blonde book! I need to check that out!
Sorry! I was delighted by the Legally Blonde book, I didn’t have high expectations but I loved it.
I mean, congrats on smashing your reading goal this year, but hopefully next year you'll be healthy and living your life. Definitely a preferable state of being.
The Girl with the Louding Voice sounds so good! I've had that on my list for ages. One of the guys at my nonfiction book club was raving about Factfulness.
Factfulness is so upbeat and positive, definitely recommend. And I’m glad I read the Girl With the louding voice, I wouldn’t have picked it up if it hadn’t been on my 12 in 12 list.
Those are the prettiest book ends!
So lovely. I do love a good bookend, and these really are
I have read none of these lol. Midnight is the Darkest Hour sounds super cool, though! Good luck getting through all of these~
Thank you! I’m not very confident but optimistic.
I've done it! With over two weeks left of 2024!
@@kirstensbooknook6575congrats!
Looks fun!
Some parts of Virginia get lots of snow. I live there and the eastern/central part of the state gets basically nothing, but the western part of the state is in the mountains and they can get loads. There's a decent ski resort about two hours west of me lol
Oh cool! It's set in Yorktown, so that sounds like a lot of poetic licence. (I was about to say I've never been that far south, but I went to Cyprus which is south of you, so I have, Not a lot of snow in Cyprus though)
@@kirstensbooknook6575 Oh yeah lmao Yorktown wouldn't get snow.
@@AlexBlackReads ooh, except I got confused and they moved from Yorktown to a fictional town. So maybe that is in a western snowy part.
Meteors and Menorahs sounds kind of amazing. I love the random alien insertion lol. Also totally recommending The Matzah Ball to my friend who loves cozy holiday reads this time of year.
Definitely a good one to choose
Yay it looks like a good box! And I love the see through cover.
I don't remember a see through cover before, and I love it.
Good luck with all your books! Sounds like a lot of Christmas fun~
Yay im so glad you're joining!
Thank you! I’m so excited
It sounds like you had a great time in the readathon!

I feel like the more random the box, the better it is lol. Yay for it not being the same book!
Yes! Less likely to be things I’ve already got a ton of.
That's such a pretty letter opener! Even apart from the Cruel Prince tie in, it's just great.
Yes! And it’s a bit bigger than ones I’ve had in the past so better for parcels.
I read Eliza and Her Monsters years ago and adored it. Such a great book about anxiety.
I struggle a lot with audiobooks too. My reading comprehension immediately goes down the toilet lol. But my commute for work is 90 minutes a day so I wind up listening to a lot of them. Do you find you do better with nonfiction? I just noticed you mentioned kind of a lot in this video, and I can only handle nonfiction. The Heartbeat of Trees is narrated by Mike Grady and he has such a lovely voice for a book about nature. Dion Graham is perfection in The Dead are Arising, a biography about Malcolm X. Also Viola Davis's memoir won a grammy for her performance and it was probably the best thing I'd ever listened to.
I often do find I do better with non fiction in audio books, yes. They all sound perfect, thank you!
Fairyloot has such pretty books! Hopefully it's better than the synopsis sounds~
ALways happy to see you around! BElated but also really enjoyed your orillium wrap! Love practical items and what a beautiful printing job!
Thank you!
Fear the Drowning Deep sounds so good! I'm sorry you had covid, but at least you got a lot of reading time in.
Thank you. It was annoying but not that bad this time. I was pretty poorly first time round though. And lots of books :) that book is so good, a really lovely surprise

Love that Priory mug!
It’s gorgeous and dish washer proof, my favourite combination :)
These always give me fomo lol the boxes look so fun!
They are so lovely. And the towel is so big and soft 😍
Yay for DNFing! I'm still so bad at it lol
It’s a lovely freeing thing to learn but it’s so hard!
That book sounds great!
It really does. I’m optimistic.
Good luck with all of these!
Thank you!
I use shotcut for editing which takes ages to export, but it's free and pretty easy to learn. Detransition Baby has been on my radar for a minute and it sounds great. I kind of agree about A Man Called Ove. I cried a lot, but it hit a lot of wrong notes for me.
Thank you! I'll give it a go. I was so nervous about Detransition, Baby but I'm glad I read it.
Illumicrate boxes are always so pretty!
And after the second round of 'I really want that.... let me check eBay' I thought it was a sensible jump :)
I think you’d like it
The Girl with the Louding Voice sounds really good!
The fairyloot books are always so gorgeous.
They are! Sometimes I just want to sit and stare at them.
This is why I'm always afraid to try those book boxes that send you random older books. Like what if I've read it? I've read so much lol. But it still looks really fun! And you got some interesting thrillers.
Yes I’m glad I’ve done it once but I’m reflection I don’t think I’ll do it again
That book is so gorgeous. Like I really don't have much interest in this box, but wow their books are always stunning.
Yes! They’re normally books id never pick up by myself but often enjoy, too
I literally did the same thing with Alex Bertie, kept thinking of him as such a sweet kid and then remembering we're the same age lol. Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow sounds so fantastic! And it always gives me hope to see other people that aren't gamers still enjoying it.
I’m glad it’s not just me!
Yay thank tou for sharing!! So glsd youre joing in for hikeathon! I just posted a short on some of my fave elemental magic books if you need more ideas!
Thank you!
Aw what a cute pup! And good luck with tbr zero! It sounds like you're making good progress.
Thank you!
Reading in the bath is literally my favorite thing. The look of absolute joy on your kid's face when they're playing with the cloud toy is precious.
I love this bathroom so much mostly for the large south facing window next to the bath, grease light for reading. And yes, so much joy with this little.
I hope you smash the readathon!
Thank you!
I read more books by men now than I used to (I'm at like 50/50 for the year so far), but I much prefer female authors. I am a bit horrified that you and your husband mix your libraries lol. My boyfriend doesn't get any space on my shelves.
We mostly know theoretically whose books are whose but we are fairly horrifying. Not as bad as the couple I know who will often share a cup of tea. I mean, that’s just weird.
@@kirstensbooknook6575 ...what lol I can't help but appreciate that level of not caring
These boxes are always so lovely!
I always like the stuff but I’m also a bit nervous they don’t make good videos so thank you for saying that.
