Hina is one of the best characters in all of fiction. Some of her pain I can't relate to myself, but as a former teenage girl, I can empathize with her way of coping with it. There were many nights that my mother had to hold me while I was sobbing because of bullies crushing my spirits. Hina has taught me to love my younger self, and not ridicule her simply because she was young, which has helped me also love my current self, and all of his imperfections.

Listening to this music brings up so much warm and nostalgic memories, I can feel all the warmth and comfort of Kawamoto's house. I can understand Rei, why he always wanted to visit them after his shogi matches instead of returning to his apartment filled with loneliness and depression.

The version that plays when Hina cries for her mother just breaks my heart everytime. Hearing a young girl cry and beg for her parent hits so close to home because I went through a very similar experience with my father. I was much older than when Hina lost her mother, about 15 when I lost my dad, but it hurt so much and I remember just crying out for him. Losing a parent when you’re young hurts so much. 3-gatsu captures the feeling perfectly.
