How stable is the iPhone 15 Pro Max 5x Lens for video?!
It seems almost no other UA-camr's have tested the video stabilisation on the new 5x zoom lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. So here's my very quick test, performed in the 10 minutes I had with the phone.
This is testing video stabilization, which is the equivalent of a 120mm full frame lens. Most normal DSLRs offer very limited stabilisation, so this could be a game changer for handheld zoom footage.

How is Windows on an M2 Mac so fast?!
Переглядів 5 тис.Рік тому
See how fast ARM verison of Windows 11 running in Parallels on a 16" MacBook Pro is. It is a beast. Magically Instantly fast in some cases, I don't understand how it works :) We are comparing Parallels to VMWare Fusion on the Intel Mac. The 16" MBP is running the M2 Max Apple Silicon chip. The 2019 MBP 16" is the Intel i9 8 core 2.3GHz, Radeon Pro 5500M 8GB Both machines are 32GB Ram

I mean yeah the m2 is faster but duh it’s 2022 vs 2019, also one thing to point out is the lack of a dedicated gpu on the m chips, which is significantly slower when rendering, i use maya, zbrush and substance although zbrush could run on a potato

The 2019's speakers have such a great punchy balance. The new 16" models have bassy speakers and high highs, but lack in the mid-range. My biggest complaint with the new models is the factory display calibration not all being the same due to different manufacturers. Some displays are more magenta, while others are more yellow, but very rarely proper blue/white clean D65 white point. You'll need to get an X-rite and do a calibration yourself.

This is wrong and unfair. My fully maxed-out 2020 MBP 16 inch (i9-9980HK, 5600M 8GB HBM2, repasted using industrial-grade thermal pads) runs much faster than M3 Max and on par with M3 Ultra. It can also run Windows natively, no need for those emulator shenanigans!

There's some context to be added to the shutdown/startup time. The M1/2/3 chips are "cheating" by not actually turning off, but rather entering a deep hibernation. The intel Macs suspends the tasks to the SSD while the M1/2/3 chips suspend to memory, the reaosn they can do this and the intel can't is because of increased energy efficiency, so it is still the advantage of the M1/2/3 macs. If you want to truly turn off the M-series macs you'll need to either hold the power button in, or drain the battery completely.

Great video but i feel like it’s a pretty unfair test with the machines running on battery. Puts the i9 at a disadvantage since all intel laptops drop performance dramatically when on battery. Do you have a video with both machines on power?

Your test looked somehow fun. Comparing 2019 with 2023? Booting up a relatively old, stuffed version of win 11 on intel vs a cleaner, fresh-looked one on m2. Yeah yeah, we all now m2 is fast. I just look for a fairer comparison for chip leap. Which definitely yours isn't. Need to explain more? 😄

I think it's nothing about the processor, it's about the different SSD speed between them, m2 MAC's SSD is way more faster than the old MAC, it's base on PCIE 4.0 bus, up to 8000MB/s

Nice video comparison. But does it also takes into account other HW, for example hard drive? Additionally would be nice to see comparison of such tasks as "npm" together with "time" util to understand why it is so slower.

Hey, I´m in the market for a Macbook and in my budget i could either go full out on the M2 Air or the MBP you tested. The air would be the base 13" (which is a bit small) and its bottlenecked by the 8gb ram and im not sure for which one to go, as the i9 seems like a more "pro" and quirky laptop (touchbar aso). What would you recommend?

This just makes me realise even more how much I need a new laptop. I'm using a 2018 i9 6core MBP and the fans come on while I'm booting up. It's ridiculous. Can see why Apple ditched Intel. Don't even get me started on the Touch Bar. What a lull in Apple's history. Selling crap for thousands to fools like me. Glad to know the M chips are that much better. Should get mine at the end of the month. Can't wait.

This isn't "real world" anything or a measurement of performance. Every single thing "tested" here is just the faster NVME hard drive. That's it. New RAM is non-volitile. It doesn't have to save to risk, depending on the actual power state. These aren't turning fully off like you think.

That issue with the Intel MacBook getting hot and draining the battery while it's supposed to be in sleep mode is evidently a problem that plagues most modern laptops. I don't know why, exactly, but I've seen some videos about it, because I noticed it on my own i9. I'm guessing that the M2 will have a similar problem, but I don't know for sure. I think it's more of a software issue. It also happens with Windows laptops.

I absolutely should not have watched this. I’m running pretty close to the same Intel MacBook (i9 with 32GB mem and 2TB SSD). I guess I knew it was increasingly slow and clunky (partly reflecting increased resource demands from apps and OS). But, you nailed it. The differences are far more dramatic than you we’ve come to expect based on 3 years and a couple of generations. It’s still challenge to consider the costs involved and I suspect the re-sell on my 2019 will also be impacted the improvements in the M1 and M2 machines. Since transitioning from Windows to MacOS a little over ten years ago, I’ve generally waited 4 years or more to upgrade but the performance differences were never this dramatic.
