Effective Communication: Why Your Horse Needs Clear ‘Phone Calls’
Переглядів 2004 місяці тому
Join me as we explore a helpful analogy between phone calls and horsemanship. Have you ever noticed how we react when someone calls us with nothing valuable to say? We tend to ignore those calls. Well, the same principle applies to our horses! When you touch those reins, you’re making a “phone call” to your equine partner. But here’s the catch: Hanging on the reins without purpose is like leavi...

Wondering If I am Doing Things The Right Way With My Horse
Thank you so much ♥️
We love those zoooomies
Liberty seemed to enjoy showing Belle. I expect she missed you in the saddle. 🐎
What a great comparison!! Makes total sense.
I knew about the stick hack, but didn't know about turning the fenders more than once. Thank you!!
Yesssssss Hailey
She will always be baby Belle😊
She is gorgeous!
That was sweeetttt pic of Mama and baby! ❤
Love Major looking for hoof scraps! The mama is taking a nap...phew the kid is being kept occupied!!
Love your compassion and patience with her. She is doing so well. Such a pretty roan.
I trim my own horses and would love it if you could show how to have horse relax on farrier stand. I tend to just hold their feet while nipping and rasping but it adds wear and tear on my back. Thankyou for your posts!
BS
Thank you for those videos ❤
I'm sorry. I subscribe to your channel bc I like he way you think about horses and the way you handle them. But your pitch here is irresponsible and a total crock. Horses are unpredictable and that needs to be respected. You're doing a great disservice to your viewers -- many of whom aren't going to be strong riders, and some probably know next to nothing about horses -- by doing this and defending it. Bending a horse to slow down or stop is not bad horsemanship or something to be ridiculed. By all means ride bridle less in a round pen or arena or fenced field. But doing it "outside" is just not smart. I could be wrong but I can't imagine any of the excellent horsemen I follow on YT (mostly Pat Puckett, Bret Davis, Ryan Rose, Warwick Schiller and Herm Gailey) advocating going bridle less on the outside -- just as a matter of judgment. I'd be surprised if even Stacy Westfall did that.
@epona9166 I think you really missed some points to my statements and maybe I need to clarify some as well. Again, I don't advocate that anyone ride this way. I said I do it for me. I also never ridiculed anyone for bending and flexing. Why would I, I do that as well. Your point about horses being unpredictable is something I definitely disagree with. Horses seek peace in EVERYTHING, and just because you can't imagine it doesn't mean it can't be done. Not saying that you or anyone should, but what do you care if I do. Please listen to understand what I said vs. Respond to what I say in the video.
@@Lukereinboldhorsemanship I've rewatched your video several times and I don't think I'm missing your points. I just strenuously disagree with them. With almost everything you're saying, actually. I don't even understand the point of the video. I didn't say you ridiculed bending a horse in general, but you did disparage the notion of wanting reins in order to be able to bend your horse around... That people who think that way are the problem, or those horses that are owned by people like that are the problem, or whatever. It didn't even make any sense. Bottom line, it's irresponsible to tell people that a horse -- any horse -- simply will not ever spook and run off. That's not bad behavior you train out of a horse. That's the horse's true nature; the potential for doing that is always there. If you've worked with a horse enough that it's really really steady, good for you, but that requires a good solid horse, excellent training and luck. Telling people that if they're the "leader" they should be, they don't need to worry about what could go wrong out on the trail; or if they're a true leader they don't need headgear; or that using headgear doesn't mean you've established leadership. That is mostly word salad. The aforementioned horse trainers I follow on YT all work really hard to promote safety around horses. In this video you're doing just the opposite. How can you be sure that some impressionable young person isn't going to look at this and think Oh, I'm a good leader, that looks cool, I'm going to go do that, and end up in the ER. Answer: you can't.
Love Liberty!! So awesome she rides bridleless on the trail. Awwww...her baby is tagging along!
Gday mate. I’ve rode horses like that all my life , they were everywhere here in Australia when I was a kid, still around now but not so many. They were bred to work, ride 30kms out the bush get your cattle and ride back out of the gorge and still have the ticker to come out. Not for weekend riders. You can’t train on them until you burn off some of their energy. Lots of one rein stops, don’t bother running them backwards it does nothing. Tried that. Lots of one rein stops, keep them in their gate, best done at walk or trot, dare them to break gate. I guarantee if done properly you’ll have a good horse. Don’t expect too much too young.
Hi thanks for the informative videos! Was looking for plans for your suspension bridge to build if possible? Thanks😊
Talk about it....
Great information in these videos! Do you sell horses after training or are these your personal horses?
She is lovely! Makes me smile seeing her running.
That Was Amazing! Great Information! Love the slow down so easy to get worried and move to fast. Great video Also beautiful Friesians!
Really like this.
In the eyes of mu horse , I see my heart❤
Nothing better than free riding - what a great horse.
@woodedlane thanks, we kinda like em
lots of fresh air - lots of room to run - dogs - people - perfect life for a young horse!
@@elizabeth-tn3my we think so too.
I have never seen a horse react like that to boots... Has she been "rope trained" or lain down with ropes? She might have been trying to help. Oh you got there. I think she was trying to figure out what you wanted and wasn't being drama.
So funny to watch. She was a good girl for you. My horse did it with fly boots for a few steps and it gave me quite chuckle.
Once again very informative 👍
Thank you for watching
What is the rewsrd?😊
the reward would be releasing pressure, so when he asks the horse to back up, and she does it, he will stop asking her to back up, and let her stand, as a reward, taking off the pressure
Thank you. 😊
@@lindaarnold5683 You're welcome! :D
Hi this really helped How would I reward the try in a canter or trot if I was trying to get good speed or on the correct lead
❤
That so helpful thanks
@courtneykempisty-dm6ze well, thanks for watching.
Horse industry = Slave industry
Naaa horses need spurs. I've used spurs my entire life. When I don't use them they are sluggish and constantly test me like a toddler trying to do what they want. Spurs wake them up and listen to every command 🫵😎
Yes, horses are so sensitive and it's very good to know you use those shoes as a back up. Unfortunately not everyone does that
Spurs are not horse aids IMHO. Leg pressure is.
Horses can flinch from a fly’s touch. There are a lot of ways to get after a horse to get their attention without mechanical aides.
Sure, there are. However, why does a horse flinch when a fly lands on them? Because they learned that a fly will do more than just land on them. If an employer never enforces policies, most employees would do things wrong. I'm not saying to cue with them, I'm saying that when they are used appropriately, it makes the honest horse better.
I have never used and never would
I thought a cowboy was about to educate me about AIDS. 😂
AIDS vs aides. Important distinction. Not the direction I thought this video was going upon the utterance of the first sentence. Great info nonetheless!
Great video. Exactly what I needed to see. Thanks.
Glad it helped
Pretty neat side-passing.
Thanks, this is a pretty fun mare that is learning really nice.
Thanks for simplifying everything in all your videos. Also makes it easier to take in with how you keep the videos relatively short. Thank you! 🙏 Yours in a channel I recommend to so many.😊
@astrasanday9865 glad you like them, thanks for watching.
I really enjoy how well you explain what you want from the horse and ALL the steps you take to try to get it from your horse
@racenail9086 thank you for watching. Hopefully we can continue to help.
👍👍👍
So in the situation if my horse is pushing me to go faster than I want her to go, then I just need to move her back-and-forth and side to side, etc.? I guess move her feet is what I’m trying to say.
In that situation i would recommend half halts using 1 rein, and slowing down your pace of riding and moving in the saddle
That is a great option. There sure are others, but I love using lateral work to really get my horses to think. It's probably a great topic for a video.
That side to slide is old as can be in Mexican reigning it's a must for your horse to this
Are you pressing and releasing with each step.
@jennyrosd2003 no, I keep the pressure until I no longer desire the horse to turn. I don't bump personally.
I have that one I’m definitely gonna try when I get to that point thank u!
I am learning precept upon precept with your videos. It’s not just about what to do or not do. It’s about the why . 💙🐴
