Kristen McGuire, the English VA for Kachina, is part of the SAG-AFTRA union. John Patneaude, the English VA for Kinich, is also part of SAG-AFTRA as far as I know. The SAG-AFTRA Union is a voice actor union that has been on strike since July 2024. They are still on strike at this very moment. They are not going against Hoyoverse actually since only like 2 of their vas are voicing in Genshin anyway. Plus as far as I’m aware Hoyoverse isn’t pushing for AI voices. From what I saw Hoyo is actually supporting VA’s when it comes to the no AI thing. At least that’s what it appears like from the outside. Who knows what’s going on inside where no one can see. The union is going against mostly big American companies like Activison, Microsoft and other companies. SAG-AFTRA wants to stop American companies from replacing VA’s with AI. That’s why the strike came to be and now it’s effecting Genshin Impact because the non-Union VA’s of Genshin Impact shared a same building with the Union VA’s of SAG-AFTRA which resulted in a decline in Audio quality because Genshin’s va’s can’t record in their recording studio. And it also affects Genshin because a minority of their va’s are part of the union which means no voices for those characters.
