Power Plant Explosion - Grosse Ile, Michigan
The Trenton Channel Power Plant boiler house was demolished on June 21, 2024, 100 years after it was built. It had 13 coal-fired boilers and 6 six turbine generators and was 9 stories tall. Over 1000 pounds of explosives were used to bring it down, which included suspension charges and dynamite. Notice the different colors of smoke. The dark smoke is the existing coal dust which ignited and caused the ball of flames. The remaining part of the building will be taken apart using excavators and other heavy equipment. The future plans of the site include building a large-scale battery storage facility. Don't forget to press the Subscribe button below to see more of my videos!

The changes in the atmosphere during the totality phase of the solar eclipse on 4-8-2024 is hard to explain. The calmness of the water, color changes and temperature drop combined with the swarm of gnats and the animals that thought it was nighttime is an amazing experience. This video is sped up and shows the "sunset" which is something I was not expecting. It does not show the hundreds of gna...

No. This is class G airspace so no issues actually getting the drone to launch. However, there was a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) in place for an hour during the actual demolition since the airport was so close. I obtained a Certificate of Authorization from the FAA to fly in the TFR. I was completely legal if that is what you are wondering. I believe these documents are public knowledge and you can find it on their site. I have been an FAA certified remote pilot (part 107) since 2016.

I have noticed a lot of power plants being demolished lately, especially around my state of Michigan. But I haven’t seen any new power plants under construction. Where do they think the power is going to come from to replace the power being removed from the grid? Instead of building a new power plant at this site, they plan to replace it with batteries. Where does the power come from to charge the batteries? What happens when the batteries are discharged? Batteries cannot generate electricity, they can only inefficiently store electricity generated elsewhere.

solar and wind - so much is made during the day much of it is curtailed. then a battery is brought online to store that extra energy which is then used at night. it costs more to keep a coal plant running than to build a new wind farm.

Thanks for the explanation of the additional late explosion at the building closest to the water. I wondered why there was such a large explosion out the side of that building. However I do know a large accumulation of coal dust from the years of operation would be an reasonable explanation. If that was not expected then the demolition company did not do a good cleaning out of the building before the company used explosives to bring it down.
