The Watchmen is a DC authorized parody of their WW2 comic series called the Justice Society of America (JSA). JSA was an early bringing together of that era's early Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Flash and some others. The JSA series was discontinued in 1951. In the 1960s with new costumes and new origin stories the team up was resurrected as today's Justice League of America (JLA) although many early JSA members were not included. In the 1980s DC brought back the JSA in various comics as they had been and introduced the world to the fact some of the original members had had children with various persons across the Multiverse. Watchmen's Rosarch is the Watchmen's Batman (but without money and a sadder origin) Adrian is their Flash, Dr. Manhattan is their Earth born Superman, etc. Dropped in 1951 the JSA of WW2 vintage never saw the turbulence of the 1960s and 70s. The JLA comics carefully avoided any hints of reality and over a decade passed before the first JLA comic with a non-White in it. The Watchmen II series on HBO of course has several not White persons in it.

This movie is great but it doesn’t make any sense. The book makes sense. Read the book, which is also great, and actually makes sense.

King wrote a sequel to the shining, which was also made into a movie - Doctor Sleep. It has Danny in it as an adult, and he still has the Shining.

In dreams, a house often represents the self; this is a larger structure, that houses a larger number of people, so perhaps it represents an assemblage of people? What assembly of people is built on an Indian graveyard, was built for "all the best people", has an elevating apparatus that's associated with buckets and buckets of blood, and the spirit of which drives men, (who are the caretakers of that structure), to go insane and murder their families out of a warped sense of duty? It has an associated maze, which women and children are able to escape, but which, as a man, Jack is utterly defeated by, even with a trail of footsteps in the snow to guide him out of it. Is the date on the final photograph of Jack a further clue? I think so.

The Dr. Sleep “sequel” starring Ewan McGregor and RebeccaHall from 2014, I think, is fun. Catch that next!

This movie has one of the first to use the Steadicam technology which allowed all those shots moving along with the characters. It was used masterfully to create the feeling that the viewer is actually in the scene.

FYI this is NOT a Stephen King movie - - - it IS a Stanly Kubrick movie, loosely based on the Stephen King novel. And no, Stephen King did not really like the movie because of all the changes Kubrick made

Just in case Oliver doesn't realize, because he keeps calling the lab Hawkins, the town they live in is called Hawkins. The lab just has the towns name in it.

33:23 I’m don't know why you felt the need to blur out Tommy's body. Other reactors have uploaded this movie recently without blurring it, and their videos haven't been taken down by UA-cam. It is completely unnecessary. At least you didn’t censor the language - something too many reactors do, which ruins the entire experience.

I think the man who got hit in the head with the log probably reported a little girl in the woods. Hopper probably put the food in that general area in case she was still there.

I worked in the Michigan prison system for 25 years. From time to time we'd get a new staff member with a "Percy" mentality. They never lasted long and they ALWAYS got people hurt. The convicts would usually supply them with an attitude adjustment since we didn't carry weapons, not even gas or tasers.

Little bit of Trivia. The kid that played Danny grew up to be a physics professor. I saw him in an interview a few years ago. He said they were careful to make sure he didn’t realise what type of movie they were shooting and didn’t tell him the actual story line. He also said they promised to send him the Big Wheel he got to use so often on the set but “It Never Came” :)

This movie has one of the best soundtracks since Top Gun. I played it endlessly on cassette.

Definitely read the book. I love this movie but at BEST it is LOOSELY based on the book. There are a lot of significant differences between the book and this movie.

FUN FACT: winona ryder was born in 71, same age as The Girl and will and his friends! so their childhood was hers!

Stanley Kubrick is the most detail oriented director that ever lived. Every shot is carefully composed from the lighting and camera angles to very specific placement of objects in the background. Kubrick was notorious for making his actors perform scenes multiple times, as many as a hundred takes if needed until he got the shot he wanted. Despite the rigors of being in a Kubrick film, by the time he made Full Metal Jacket actors were begging to be in his movies due to having an near perfect career of award winning films.

It’s not “set in the ‘70s.” It’s set in then-present day, 1980. It’s only the year after 1979 and was a continuation. (Things don’t change at the stroke of midnight at the beginning of a new decade.) They said the Grady murders happened in the winter of 1970 so 10 years ago.
