No, we don’t. This applies to the US as well (and North American countries in general). However, in the US, we do have exams that we need to take, such as the SAT, SAT II subject exams, and ACT (depends on how good the program is) , along with presenting our four-year high school GPA and extracurricular activities to be considered competitive for college admission. Standardized test scores are not required in the admissions process for public Canadian universities, though a few private universities do accept the SAT. At this point, you just have to do very well in high school.

Taking care of a dog is pretty much the same as taking care of a child. I'm a dad of a 2.5 year-old British Bulldog and I took him home when he was only a few months old, which means I regularly had to wake up in the middle of the night trying to catch his vomit with a bowl (he sleeps with me in my room). It lasted until he was about 8 months old. You also have to teach and train them to behave well. They get sick, too so you must know how to treat them with healthy diet and daily supplements, which also cost a lot. Having a dog is just like having a kid so once you own it you must love it 'til the end. Glad to know that you're also a pet lover.
