After School Reharmonization
Japan
I'm 14 years old.
I am fascinated by harmonies. I'm experimenting with it, so it's a little weird sometimes. But I think to myself that it's beautiful sometimes, lol.

this is rlly cool :)
Thank you!
You're soloing on it a good deal faster than I can currently, so congratulations on a job well done there. That said, the bridge portion of the head is inaccurate. The last part of each phrase where you're playing the last 3 notes play as major 7, major 6, and the 5, of the major 7 chord should instead be played as the 9, the major 7, and the 5, in sequential order, and rhythmically they should be played not as 16ths followed by a double-dotted half-note (the whole figure starting on the downbeat of 1), but instead as 2 eighths followed by a single-dotted half-note (the whole figure starting on the downbeat of 1). Thought you should know. Cheers
Thanks for the advice! I'm not a native English speaker, so I am not sure if I understand the musical terms in your explanation correctly. I am re-reading your comment again as I look at the sheet. You are referring to the middle part where it starts with C# minor, right?
Very nice young man. I think I heard a Tip-Of-The-Hat to: Marcus Roberts? 🧑🏾🦯
I've never heard Marcus Roberts, but if you think so, I think I'd like it too! I'll give it a listen!
@@afterschoolreharmonization6405 Yeah, check him out!
@@afterschoolreharmonization6405 Did you listen to Marcus Roberts yet?
I just listened to Wynton Marsalis' Autumn Leaves and it was great! I want to play like this! I also heard Marcus Roberts play a Gershwin piece on piano with an orchestra conducted by Seiji Ozawa. It was also great!
I feel your pain, lol. I'm working on the exact same thing! Keep up the good work (:
Thanks for the comment. I practiced Hanon during the summer vacation when I had time, at that time my fingers were moving, but after the summer vacation my fingers stopped moving fast again :p
This was actually crazy.
Thank you for listening!
I always enjoy your playing. I learned this song when I was 19 years old. It was difficult, but I worked with a lady who taught music and she helped me learn it. Thank you for bringing back some great memories. Always look forward to your videos, Larry
Thanks for your comment, very encouraging! This piece has a fast tempo, but I've been playing medium swing pieces a lot lately, I think it's better for practice and I like it.
Hello, your improvisation skills and performance are brilliant! I know jazz harmony but I'm new to improvisation, can I ask you how can I study improvisation? Should I play at first chord tones and then after I will have played enough, start adding tension tones?
Thanks for listening. I'm still developing my improvisation too, so I don't know what's right, but I'd like to play the melody beautifully in the right hand. I have the chord progression flowing in my head, so I hope to play it as if I were singing along with the harmony. I listened to your Umbrella Song. There is a kind of music in Japan that is called "city pop," and your song is wonderful with that kind of atmosphere!
Thanks for reply! I understood, thank you for the advice, I will try to learn to keep chord progression in my head and then try to add melody when I feel comfortable. Thanks for listening! Yea, I like how Japanese music sounds, so I write in such style, thank you!
And keep working man! You are very talented and I think you can go very far in music💪
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!
Beautiful playing my dawg! I love that bass line which just goes to show you that the bass line and the composition in this piece might be the basis for many pieces in Japanese video game soundtracks!
Thanks for listening. This was played over a year ago, but I think I could play the bass much cooler now, especially the walking in the background of the electric piano solo!
@@afterschoolreharmonization6405 No worries man. I see, that's great to hear! Your playing is amazing! ^_^ :* <3
Your playing skills keep getting better and better! This was fantastic.
Thanks always for listening! I had summer vacation, so I hope I was able to practice...well, I haven't been able to practice much... This song is one of my favorite jazz standards!
Holy shit man. Holy shit. Incredible.
Thanks for listening. This is something I played last summer vacation in Kyoto. It's a little embarrassing to listen to it now.
Great!
Thank you!
EXCELLENT JAZZ HOP
Thank you!
R.I.P. Kapustin, he was a great man. 🙏🙏🙏

Nice work ! great licks in the chorus well done loved it
Thanks for listening, glad you like it. I wish I could play it more beautifully!
@@afterschoolreharmonization6405 Keep on working dude you got something, even tho I am nobody
Your keyboard skills keep getting better and better. Your finger movement is very good on this song. Always such a pleasure to hear you play.
Thanks again for listening. The more I try, the more I think piano is difficult. But I enjoy it.
@@afterschoolreharmonization6405 Yes it can be difficult, however I have been playing for over 40 years and I'm not near as good as you. You are so young and have such a bright future ahead of you. Your playing level is so advanced for your age. There will be times when you will feel your not making progress, but just keep going. This is a normal thing.
I choose to subscribe this channel because i love what you played... Greeting from Indonesian...
Thank you!

he is very talented, but he seems like hes forced, and not happy while doing it, also he doesnt have that swing feel, i guess in some people its coded inside their body, to have that very good swing feel. he should focus on 1. listen to a SHITTON of jazz music, and 2. should focus on easier solos, it doesnt mattr what scales he plays, or whether its “right” or not, he NEEDS to get that swing feel, and THEN focus on these bebop scales and faster, harder improvistation tools
Appreciate your honest comments. This was played a year ago and I haven't looked back at my playing for a long time. Probably at that time I was just starting out in jazz and thought it would be cool to try to go off the scale or do something tricky. I was 12 at the time and I guess I was attracted to the thrill of jazz and didn't really understand swing, which is the essence of jazz. I am now 13 years old, and I think I am finally beginning to appreciate the simplicity and grooviness of swing jazz. I have recently become fascinated by the old bebop era. I hope it will have a positive influence on my playing.
This is now my favorite video you have made! Love this. Hope you do more songs like this. You are sounding great!
Thank you always watching me play piano!
Cool !!!
Thank you!
this is so good!!
Thank you!
One of the best interpretations I've heard
Thank you very much! I am very honored!
Sounding great! Good to hear you again.
Thanks again for listening. I have been busy lately and haven't been able to record much, but I do play piano on a variety of songs!
Beautiful chords! Bravo!
Thank you!
Hi! Where do you find the drum base?
I created the drum accompaniment using the drum pattern on the keyboard. Bass was also entered on the keyboard. So it's not right in places lol.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Kapustin lately and YT recommended me this video … this is amazing! And that section with the Rhodes taking the melody was unexpectedly stunning. Subbed!
Thanks for listening! I experimented with the Fender Rhodes sound and I loved it! I don't know if Nikolai Kapustin himself would like it, lol!
The visuals at 1:20 do not match the music. Your hands are playing a different part of the piece there.
I noticed that too. I didn't understand how to edit properly at the time, and I was terrible at it, so the image and sound are out of sync. If I edit it now, I can make it more synchronized.
I used the rhythm track on my keyboard and played the bass myself. I'm glad you like it!
This is awesome, thanks for sharing 😄
Thank you for watching my video!
Hey man! everything about this vid is so lovely, great playing, love the synth & the studio space looks so nice
Wao thank you!
