    17 days on a protein drink with flax oil & vitamins ~500 calories per day. After the 3rd day, hunger disappeared and energy levels returned. I continued to shop and prepare meals for the family. On the 17th day, while shopping, I began to think about what I was going to eat at the end of my fast. Big mistake. I came home and broke the fast while putting away groceries. I believe I could have gone 30 days. In my opinion, there are long term psychological effects of fasting and starvation, particularly when the fast was imposed by scarcity or a lack of food. Under such circumstances, one may feel compelled to eat when food is available because you, unconsciously, can't necessarily predict when food may or may not be available. Yes, this also happened to me. I called it the recession diet
