Radical Meets Oil, Water and Goes for a Spin
August 31, 2024 - Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Labour Day Weekend Sprints. Second lap of Race 1 from onboard #39 Radical SR3: clean start and a beautiful pass for P4 in Turn 9 and then threw it all away with a driver error clipping the oil patch left by an F4 in the prior race letting go of its crappy Ligier V4.

High Speed Crash or Awesome Pass?

High speed crash or audacious pass - the basic choice before me in the braking zone at the end of the back straight at Virginia International Raceway during Race 1 of the Radical North American Masters - April 28, 2018. (Note the timing of when the brake lights on the car ahead come on).

Onboard the #39 Camp Ooch Radical SR3 for a recovery drive with many passes to get back to a 3rd place podium finish after spinning early in the race (6:30 of the video). A bit of detail: I was slower than a team mate through Turn 1 in qualifying and so I carried more speed in once the tires were fully warmed up. I think I reacted in time to catch the first part of the rotation, but not enough ...

Onboard the #39 Camp Ooch Radical SR3 for Race 2, Round 2 of the 2017 Radical North American Masters at Watkins Glen in New York. A chaotic start - actually before we even got the green flag - saw two cars, including a team mate, wreck to my right and behind me. After the restart, I got bottled up behind the white car in the 1500 class (more horsepower) and finished 3rd in the 1340 class.

      Ehhh yeah, I think the rolling speed in 2B was fine but clipped the wet quickdry slightly or inputs too sharp... As you know, the answer in a Radical is always to roll more speed - you can see in the video it looks like I could've carried another 10 kph in 2A or more and that would've helped put me on a wider line.

    Awesome ride! Nice playground you got there! Trying to sell my new (only 1hr) decked out yamaha 450r to get one of these for trails looks like it rips! How's the handling? Feel tipsy?

    • @teamearleracing4782
      @teamearleracing4782 2 роки тому

      Easy to handle - pushes in turns but power steer helps in RWD. Lot of lean but never felt like it was going to tip.. The one thing I'd say beyond width of trails is turning radius probably not close to what your used to.

      That bump was uncalled for he had lost the corner. He would have been better off to fall in behind and take a run at the next corner instead. He needs a meeting with the stewards after those hits.

    Nice race! There was a lot of action going on. I wonder what would've happened if we drove on slicks. I thought about it, but I was worried that I would never be able to get the tire up to temperature and lose a lot of time in the first half of the track

    Nice driving. The fastest that I have done is 1:35 in my old 89 944 Turbo S. My 991 GT3 is now in AZ :( Great driving and great track.

    • @teamearleracing4782
      @teamearleracing4782 8 років тому

      Thanks. 1:35 is flying. That's about a second off the fastest I could do in a 991 3.4 on Cup tires. Most Porsche guys aren't going that fast, even in 991 GT3, RS, etc, despite the claims you hear. Ferrari guys are way slower, of course. That was on slicks I take it?

    • @SuperDink88
      @SuperDink88 8 років тому

      Haha. Confession. It was one lucky lap on fresh tires with a big turbo. I was typically running in 1:40 mark. Haven't got close in the subsequent attempts. Anyway. Great driving here for you. I miss Mosport.

    @eedoamitay3341 8 років тому

    Putting down lap times near the same as those professional GT cars, this was a superb clip to watch! I have to get a helmet mount for my GoPro next time I go to Mosport, the angle helps you see the driver and track very well. And your driving was very smooth and fast, nice to see you going classic shifter style too haha

    • @teamearleracing4782
      @teamearleracing4782 8 років тому

      +Eedo Amitay Thx Eedo! Yeah, the helmet mount for a GoPro shows the speed and movement much better than mounting on the car although it still doesn't do it justice, as you know. If you checkout the footage from my Radical racecar, that's shot with a SmartyCam HD GP, which is supposed to capture the curves and elevation change better.

  • @goons123flofy
    @goons123flofy 8 років тому

    It is great to see what the gt3 can do when driven in anger - this is a crazy fast lap of mosport. How hard would you say you were pushing 8/10, 9/10ths? How many years have you been driving here? Do you drive any other tracks?

    • @teamearleracing4782
      @teamearleracing4782 8 років тому

      This is 9/10ths - you can go about 1 second faster, 1:30 flat on stock tires and setup in a GT3, but it means killing the tires and you're taking a lot of risk in the high speed turns. You don't want to make mistakes at Mosport!
